I have installed Fedora 12 with Gnome desktop on a PC. For some reason, I want GNOME to NOT decorate windows with borders. Is there some way to instruct GNOME to NOT add border to windows, and leave them border-less, without scroll-bar title bar etc. Is there some other desk top environment where it is more convenient to achieve this?
View 5 RepliesWay back from Windows 3.x days to the latest 64bit Windows 7 (classic/standard theme)there is a way to make the window edge border wider then 1 pixel.I often use 3 to 5 pixel to make it easy to grab on hi-resolutions displays and hi DPI monitors.There doesn't seem to be an easy or obvious way to do this with the Gnome X-Windowing system?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been having a recurring problem with the borders of all my windows disappearing along with their associated buttons (minimize, maximize, close). The bar which would normally display the name of the current window appears grey, and all other windows have a thick grey border around them. I noticed some people on here having similar problems and tried applying the solutions in those threads to my problem, but none of them solved the problem permanently. The borders seem to disappear at random shortly after my computer boots. Sometimes it happens as soon as I open a window, other times it takes a few minutes. It always happens though. Here's a link to some screen captures of what I'm experiencing. The one is a shot of GIMP open with borders intact. The other, which I took a few minutes later, is Firefox with the no borders problem. This doesn't really hinder my ability to use my computer, but it certainly is annoying. I do have compiz installed, if that helps any.

After installing some Fedora software updates, I can no longer see the header frame in every window. Furthermore, I can't access any window frame after I open a new window frame.
How can I fix this? Can I remove all the updates I recently installed?
Note : After installing these update, when I reboot the system, I can see there are two version of Fedora.
I am looking for a similar thing from compiz/unity/kde for xfce: The thing where you drag a window to the left and it is shown on the half of the screen or drag it to a corner and it will be sized to a quarter of the screen, etc...

This resolution was detected, at the initial install and later with sax2. It shows the desktop with a 1 inch wide black area along the right border of the screen and that is exactly what is missing at the left border (i.e. invisible). It is like the desktop is shifted to the left of the screen. As far as it is visible the image is crisp and clean. Lowering the resolution to 1280x960 works ok, but the aspect ratio is no longer correct. I have checked the archives and found Intel integrated graphics - openSUSE Forums but trying different hints from the thread did not help.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have firefox 5 on my old box. But the border disappear regularly (in flwm). how to then minimize the window? (where firefox is). Perhaps there is a "ctrl something" for making appearing again the flwm border?
In the remaining time, I have to close firefox with "File Exit" when I want to start another programm or go into another window. I desinstalled/reinstalled firefox, then the border was again then and i could minimize/maximize the window..
I'm running Fedora 15 with Gnome 3. I installed Gnome-Do using 'yum install gnome-do'. I opened it from the Terminal by typing 'gnome-do' but I keep getting an error message that says
Could not load desktop item: libgnome-desktop-2.so.17
Gnome-Do opens but it doesn't display any application I search for and when I try opening the Gnome-Do preferences, it quits.
I installed gnome-desktop-2.32.0-8.fc16.i686.rpm from here: [url] and then installed Gnome-Do. Everything works fine now.
I just installed Fedora 15 with the gnome desktop which looks like the android system for mobile phones, I installed wine which put the icons on my desktop but whenever I install a windows app it doesn't put an icon on my desktop for that particular application. How would I add an icon for those window apps so I can lunch them from the desktop, I don't know if you call that the desktop or just the program luncher either way how do I put an icon there so I can run those windows apps from there?

How can I determine what desktop number the current gnome terminal in a gnome session is connected to?
I noticed that in Fedora 15 Beta when you choose a minimal install then add ONLY the defaults of the "GNOME Desktop" package, you will get this error: gnome-desktop3-3.0.1-2.fc15.x86_64 has a required package:
system-backgrounds-gnome
When I look for gnome-desktop3-3.0.1-2.fc15.x86_64 it is not on any installation menu list. I prefer gnome, but installed KDE and that worked. Any ideas of getting gnome to work?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a separate /home partition to share between F10 and F11. And, of course, the gnome settings conflict. I really don't need to go back to F10 and when I install F12 over it I will omit including the separate /home directory during the install set up and that will force F12 to create the /home Dir on the same file system. So, to clear up gnome settings for now, is the only way mean deleting the .gconf, .gnome* directories? This was recommended in another post back a few years ago.

View 4 Replies View RelatedF12 current updates. The Gnome Desktop Background images are compressed in the horizontal axis enough to make a cessna 182 look like a disney cartoon. I am running 1280X1084 75 hertz update rate. The Gnome Image Viewer gives a correct image. The image I am running had to be stretched to fill the screen. I suspect the stretching algorithm is at fault. Is this a bug that need reporting?
