General :: Permission Denied To A Samba Server User

Jan 9, 2010

I have configured samba server.My requirement was that the path which i have to share was /srv/www/htdocs.With this the shared path for developer user was /srv/www/htdocs/projects.

So in the smb.conf file i made the entries as following:

After that root user was able login to both /srv/www/htdocs and also project folder and developer was only able to login to projects folder.That was according to my requirement but now the problem is that when developer is trying to edit any file in projects folder he is getting error that you dont have permissions to change this file.But developer should be able to edit any files. What changes i need to do now.

General :: 'Could Not Chdir To Home Directory /home/[user]: Permission Denied'

Jan 6, 2010

I have a secondary disk which holds a /home directory structure from a previous install of Linux. I installed a new version on a new primary drive and mounted this secondary drive as the new /home. Problem is, even though the users are the same names and I can access the home directories for the users, I cannot login directly to their home directories, as I get the following error: -

Code:

login as: [me]
[me]@[machine]'s password:
Last login: Wed Jan 6 18:34:33 2010 from [machine]
Could not chdir to home directory /home/[me]: Permission denied
[[me]@[machine] /]$

Now, since the usernames are correct and the users are in the passwd file with the correct home directory paths, could it be user ID's that are different or something else? It's not as though I cannot access the home directories for the users, simply that I cannot log directly into them from a login prompt.

General :: Permission Denied As The Root

Mar 23, 2011

The root user of Linux doesn't have permission to read/write a regular file, unless all users have permission to read/write this file, like below:

drwxrwsrwx ....... file_name

However the owner of the file can still read/write this file.

AND:

0) not the problem of execution, just read/write
1) not the problem of device because regular user can read/write it.
2) the result of command id:

uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root)

so I don't think it's the problem of group.

General :: ACL - Permission Denied / Resolve This?

May 17, 2011

I'm hoping someone can help me out with this issue I'm having using acl(s). I have a user I want to grant access to logs I have stored on my server. I am doing this by setting up an acl to that directory where the logs are stored. My settings seem to look fine, however I cannot read or even reach the directory with the said user; we'll call him "userP".
Here is my code:

To ensure userP has access to the parent directory (jboss) code...

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here: there are no errors in the logs; just "Permission denied" however I try to get to the directory.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

General :: Permission Denied While Trying To Put File Using TFTP

Jan 6, 2011

I am trying to put a file from one linux machine to my other linux machine. There is absolutely no problem in downloading the file i.e. performing the "get" operation but when I try to upload or "put file" from my host1 to host2 it throws error "Error 0 Permission denied". I am able to put files from host2 to host1 without any problem but not from host1 to host. Infact if I try to tftp even localhost on host2 it throws the same error. Here is my

/etc/xinetd.d/tftp file for host2
service tftp {
socket_type = dgram
protocol = udp
wait = yes
user = root
server = /usr/sbin/in.tftpd
server_args = -c -s /tftpboot
#disable = yes
disable = no
per_source = 11
cps = 100 2
flags = IPv4
}
And permissions on /tftpboot are 777
[root@LinuxServer /]# ls -ld /tftpboot/
drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4096 Jan 6 05:21 /tftpboot/
[root@LinuxServer /]# ls -l /tftpboot/
total 16
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Jan 6 06:16 new_test
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Jan 5 06:02 test2

And the command which I am using is :
[root@LinuxServer /]# tftp localhost -c put new_test
Error code 0: Permission denied
And ya here is /etc/sysconfig/selinux file is as under :
# This file controls the state of SELinux on the system.
# SELINUX= can take one of these three values:
# enforcing - SELinux security policy is enforced.
# permissive - SELinux prints warnings instead of enforcing.
# disabled - SELinux is fully disabled.
SELINUX=permissive
# SELINUXTYPE= type of policy in use. Possible values are:
# targeted - Only targeted network daemons are protected.
# strict - Full SELinux protection.
SELINUXTYPE=targeted
