I am wanting to install ubuntu 10.10/mint 9 onto my existing system, while allowing the old distros to boot.My setup is mirrored mdraid. Never had any issues before with grub picking up my old systems, but grub2 just isn't working.I've installed mint OK and it boots fine. But the main grub menu doesn't show, it just boots straight into mint. This includes the rescue entries in the menus - it neither shows them or any custom entries. If I run a test in virtualbox without using raid it picks up my old suse distro no problem and gives me an entry at boot. But using md it wont.
I just upgraded my ubuntu to 10.10 and discovered that the navigation keys in the 'less' utility are not working anymore. Both the cursor keys and the page keys are just echoed as key codes:
Code:
:^[[A^[[B^[[C^[[D^[[5~^[[6~ (I hit up, down, right, left, pgup, pgdown)
This is really nasty - moreover, this issue seems to be too difficult to google (at least for me) beause 'less' is not a very good keyword to search for
PS: I already checked TERM=xterm -- must be something else...
I want to play with CUDA/PyCuda, but nvcc doesn't work with GCC version 4.5 or greater. What is the most thorough way to provide access to GCC 4.4.6 without impacting my version 4.5.2?
None of the apps will work on DSL. Example Firefox or notepad will not open. FF says input/output error. it is a compaq presario laptop with win xp sp3 in case that is important. I am not sure if the windows reference is important at all?

My Windows XP PC crashed and died. I tried to restore it, but it asks for a system file I don't have. I thought I could start up with the Linux0S2007 CD, but it doesn't seem to recognize the CD drive either. Is there a code or keyboard entry I could use to run my PC off of the Linux CD without Windows working? I have not installed Linux on this PC.
So I thought I was getting the hang of networking stuff, but, apparently not. Anyhoo, I have a startup script (very basic one liner)ifup -a Reading the man page for ifup it says this should bring up all devices listed in interfaces file (so contained in there I have):After starting my machine I run ifconfig which returns no output. If I do ifup eth0 I get: ifup: interface eth0 already configured. So finally, if I run dhcpcd this brings up my nic. If I then do ifdown -a and kill the dhcpcd process and then manually type ifup -a, it all magically comes back.Would someone explain what step I am missing in the process to have all my cards startup as part of the boot process?
1.Today morning when I started FC9 all my Windows-xp' s drives were properly mounted; I inserted a USB drive and that was mounted properly. 2.After that I was trying to install qtsdk and it was facing some problem.I was tensed and removed my USB drive without Unmounting. 3 Then I rebooted my machine, now neither my Xp-partitions nor my USB drive is getting mounted. 4. I opened the file /etc/fsatb and added a line there: /dev/sda2/mnt/Folder ntfs 5. did mount-a 6. The error message I got: mount: can't open /etc/mtab for writing: Stale NFS file handle 7 I tried to open mtab file [B]Could not open the file /etc/mtab
I have RHEL Machine which has NFS mounted locally.Code:#showmount -e localhostlocalhost:/apps/ImagesS on /mnt type nfs (rw,addr=127.0.0.1)When I am tying to copy a file from /tmp directory to /mnt/themes it reports "Operation not permitted".

I have Ubuntu 10.04LTS installed and want to get TV-OUT working so I can watch movies and stream media from the internet to my TV. The hardware I have installed is:
Nvidia GeForce2 mx400 TV is an old analogue CRT one
I know its an old graphics card and TV but the whole computer is put together from spares I have knocking around. So I have Ubuntu installed and the Nvidia proprietary drivers installed, version 96. Through the nvidia-settings application I have managed to get a picture in colour onto my TV screen, but the problem is there is about a 2 inch black boarder around the screen and also like a grey shadow over the entire screen. So I tried the NVTV application, the same thing happened again with the black boarders around the screen but the grey shadow over the entire screen had gone, so the black boarders are actually black and the colours show up properly.
So is there a way to get rid of the black boarders and grey shadow (if it decides to show up again), I am a total newb to Ubuntu but loving it so far and this is the only problem I am stump on so far. This is my X Config FIle I have with all the settings I have to get to the above point:
I installed the pack and ran the commands and it showed it connected. I closed the terminal windows. And went to firefox unchecked work offline but firefox will not reconized easytether connection.
