Obviously the backslash is giving tar some problem, but I've been all over the docs and can't figure out how to either make it skip this file or interpret the character literally. Here's my command history to show some of the options I've tried which don't work.
tar --no-wildcards -xkvf wpa_tables.tar
tar --exclude ./xai-0/\334Regency -xkvf wpa_tables.tar
tar --exclude "./xai-0/\334Regency" -xkvf wpa_tables.tar
tar --ignore-command-error -xkvf wpa_tables.tar
tar --ignore-failed-read -xkvf wpa_tables.tar
tar --transform 's/\/slash/g' -xvf wpa_tables.tar ./xai-0/\334Regency
I'm totally out of ideas at this point and would welcome some input from more experienced members.
Ubuntu :: Left Click Stopped Working?
Jan 5, 2010I did an internet upgrade last night and right around then I think I also got a little liquid around the touch-pad of my laptop and now the left click won't work in Ubuntu on either my touch-pad OR mouse so I am not sure if maybe the connection for the left click on the touch-pad is shorted causing it to stay "clicked" which somehow disables the left click on the mouse... On my windows xp partition(which I am using now) I am able to use the left click on the mouse but still not the touchpad... Anyway I am wondering if there is a way to disable to touchpad via console or some other way to get around this so I can back my important docs and files and then "mouse" it till I can get a new laptop.

Mar 24, 2010I have Fedora 11 installed on my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop, and have been using the installation for many months. Just this past couple of days, the 'right-click' on the mouse (whether using the trackpad mouse on the latop or an external mouse) has stopped working, but not completely. I can still right-click in firefox, on the bar at the top of screen, in a terminal window, etc. However, right-click is not working on the desktop, that is I can not right-click on a folder or a file. Nothing happens. If I right-click on the trash-can, nothing. So I know the mouse buttons are fine as right-click does work in firefox.

General :: Wake On Lan Stopped Working?
Jan 3, 2011I have a laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 w/ wireless connection to desktop running Windows 7. I had it set up so I could execute a script to send a wakeonlan to the desktop. It worked fine for several weeks, but all of a sudden it stopped working. I've checked my script and it still looks good as far as I can tell. (I'm not that adept at script writing, so I wouldn't necessarily recognize a problem.) I've also checked the Windows machine to make sure the network adapter still is set to allow wake-on-lan.
BTW: my wake up script is as follows:
#!/bin/bash
wakeonlan xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Where the x's replace my actual MAC address.

Mar 16, 2010Recently my wireless stopped working on my Debian testing system. It just doesn't connect. The best I get (only after a reboot) is that it says it did connect, but failed to get IP address. But usually it just tries to connect, disconnects straight away, connects again etc. so it never manages to associate correctly.
I am sure it did work about a month ago, stopped working after recent upgrades from the repository.

The problem is that the global shortcuts in KDE stopped working, which basically makes my whole environment unusable now.
How can I fix this?

General :: Lenny - SSH Stopped Working Overnight?
Jan 11, 2011I was on my server most the night via SSH doing changes (mostly permissions :/ ) and woke up this morning and get "Server unexpectedly closed network connection" from inside the network (via internal IP), AND outside the network (via outside IP)Obviously I messed something up somewhere right?
Any thoughts on what to verify or check first? Server is up, because I can access a few different hosted pages. I'm remote today, so I don't have access to the box. I'm assuming i'm SOL until I get to the box tonight to fix locally..

General :: Network Stopped Working On Ubuntu After System Had Locked Up
Jun 20, 2010My main PC has AN Athlon X2 4600+ on an Asus M2npv-vm. Has been working fine for ages running Ubuntu. Today it the system locked up and I had to do a reset. Since then it will not connect to the router or cable modem. I can connect another PC to the router, so that looks okay.
What can I do to test the network connection from Ubuntu? It's not even getting an IP.
I suppose it could be something has died in the hardware, but want to eliminate other possibilities first.

The easiest way to reproduce it is by right-clicking on any file, pressing compress and selecting .zip in the file format.

Apr 13, 2011when i click my mouse on something, it sometimes registers as two clicks. it doesn't happen all the time, but frequently enough to be annoying. for example, when i click a videos video to pause it, it often opens into fullscreen (which you normally click twice to do). also, in the url bar of chromium, i can't select the entire url by clicking. i now need to use ctrl+a. that's also because when i try to select the url, the highlight randomly disappears.
if i have multiple windows open, my click on the first "x" of the top-most window also closes the next window. i'm on linux mint 10. it's not really important, but it drives me crazy sometimes when my mouse doesn't work the way i want it to.

This occured when I tried to open the "SonyVegas 8.0 exe" . I have unzipped this file. I think "exe" has something to do with Windows, if so, is there a way I can convert this file so it can be adapted to my archive manager? Or is my archive manager not working, correctly? Does anyone else have these problems, also? Please, I want to be able to download things and my archive manager is the reason I can't.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Suddenly Stopped Working AND Rfkill Command Not Working
Jul 13, 2011When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.

My problem is that all of the sudden, a shell script we have been using has stopped working, and returned an odd error that I simply can't decipher. The shell script is pretty simple, and is run on our crontab (however manually running it causes the same error as well). The script name is "sendh.sh" and to run it in Linux is simply typing "sh sendh.sh". Here it is:

Yes, obviously those files are in the directory, I can see them through the "ls" command (or through WinSCP as well). When run one by one, each command works fine, it's just when using this "sendh.sh" shell script then it fails. Does anyone know why "" is appended to the filenames when I try to run it, or what the heck "ambiguous redirect" means?
OpenSUSE :: One Click Install From 11.3 Not Working?
Aug 9, 2010I'm using OpenSuse 11.3 Gnome I'm having trouble installing new packages from the One Click Installs of Software Open Suse and from Packman. I get the following error each time.The install link or file you opened does not contain instructions for this version of openSUSE.
Having done a new install of Open Suse 11.3 I'm trying to get back to using Mplayer and Cairo-dock, just to mention two packages. Is the version 11.3 still too new, or is there a fault in the auto installs of 11.3? I have managed to download the rpm of Cairo-dock but the Cairo-dock-plugins have dependency problems which I presume should be resolved using the One Click Install - when it works.
