Sep 3, 2010I downloaded and burned to CD LegacyOS. How do I now install it? It says no install file found!It was burned to CD as an iso.

General :: Can't Install .Deb File Or (package) / Dpkg: Command Not Found?
Jan 3, 2010I'm using a new Distro and after installing it and randomly searching for help on websites on how to install a .Deb file using dpkg at the konsole/terminal it says Bash : dpkg: Command not found . how is this possible ? Do I have to know about all the packages in the package manager to install this. slight difference for me ... knowing what I have and knowing if I need Apr93-323? (whatever) installed first or not ? The only thing I know is that I have the Iso image installed ... which is my linux distro . Where to go from here? because I usually go to a website site to find Software to install ...if I need it .back to the basics

However, when I look into the file it is actually blank saying something like "It works! This is the default web page for this server" which can't be correct since that is not what Aro2220.com actually displays.
Furthermore, when I try to wget files I've put on the server for myself it returns a 404, file not found.

Oct 19, 2009I have just done a reinstall of Centos 5.3 on a dedicated server (via a KVM). My partition arrangement was the default presented to me by the installer:
As you can see, I'm using LVM for everything other than /boot (I need to use LVM for an app I am testing).
On reboot, I get the following:

It looks like it can't find vmlinuz-2.6.18-128.el5 in /boot.
I have rebooted using the Centos Install Disk 1 and gone in to rescue mode. Rescue mode mounted my / under /mnt/sysimage, from there I could see that /boot had been mounted from /dev/sda1 as it should be.
However, there was no initrd.image or /vmlinuz-2.6.18-128.el5 under /boot or /boot/grub. Shouldn't the CentOS installer have created these?
Is there anyway I can recover this installation?
OpenSUSE Install :: Black Screen With Error 15: File Not Found
Oct 8, 2010I managed to get following config up and running very nicely with an 11.3 installation. But recently I did a clean install of the OS and hoping to preserve my data in the home HD (2TB) partition I did the following operation which resulted in black screen screen with error 15: file not found.
Config: one SSD root (90GB) and swap (30Gb) second HD for home (2TB)
During the installation I reformatted and mounted the SSD with root and swap as above. I left the home HD (2TB) unformatted and mounted as home.
When I did my first boot up, it worked perfectly - Even Fire Fox booted up with my recovered pages as of my last install! However after installing my multi-media codecs, and security updates, etc. to the fresh install I rebooted the system only to discover that I am unable to get past GRUB!
I don't have to lose my data every time I do a fresh install to new ISO release.
Software :: Install An Older Version Of AdobeReader And Found It As A Tar.gz File?
May 13, 2010I'm using Ubuntu 9.10. Wanted to install an older version of AdobeReader and found it as a tar.gz file.Unzipped it and instructions said to run the "Install" script which I did with the follow commands:
# chmod 700 ./Install
# ./Install
It setup a /usr/local/Adobe/Acrobat 7.0 file but I don't see anything in the /bin/ directory. What did I do wrong here?
Debian Installation :: Fresh Install - Grub File Not Found Error
Nov 28, 2015I just installed debian from debian-live-8.2.0-amd64-standard+nonfree.iso and after installation, which finished without problems, I cannot boot the system. I get the error:
Code: Select allfile '/boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod not found
From grub-rescue via ls command I see that I don't have the i386-pc folder inside /boot/grub. I have only two files:
unicode.pf2 and grub.cfg

Sep 10, 2009Getting back my OpenSuse OS/partition.
Background: I had a dual boot system, Win XP followed by OpenSuse 11.1 install. I tweaked it a lot to get my wireless card and Nividia card working. Finally got it to a stage where it was working great.
What happened: For some reasons windows XP had some issues and I had to reinstall the OS. Since I have the openSuse install DVD lying around I took the bold step of reinstalling windows knowing that it will blow away the Grub from MBR. However, during the windows setup, the setup said something about setting the Linux partition as inactive (I think so). Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact message.
After finishing the XP install, I booted in with the XP Cd and tried the repair option to repair the MBR. That really messed up the MBR. So much so that booting back with XP boot CD and running fixmbr didn't work. Finally reinstalled windows again.
Now I am not sure what should I do next.
I tried using the superGrubDisk but it gives the following error: Error 15 File not found.

When I run the wxsqlite3-2.0.2 configure script, a problem arises due to the fact that wxGTK is expected to be in a specific directory. The wx-config file cannot be found. However, there are copies of these files for each type of build in the folders:
/home/mrj2/wxGTK-2.8.11/GCCBuildDebugGTK2
/home/mrj2/wxGTK-2.8.11/GCCBuildDebugGTK2Unicode
/home/mrj2/wxGTK-2.8.11/GCCBuildReleaseGTK2

OpenSUSE Install :: Error 15 - File Not Found After Update 11.3 On A Dual-boot PC With Ubuntu 9.10
Oct 22, 2010Recently I've installed Open Suse 11.3 along with Ubuntu 9.10 on my PC ( made it a dual-boot OS ). This morning while logged in, in Open Suse 11.3, found out that there were important update for kernel in Yast. So, did the update and then required to restart the PC. In the Grub/boot menu, I chose to log-in to Open Suse 11.3, but after a while it returned with " Error 15, file not found ". Luckily I was able to log-in in Ubuntu 9.10. Assumed that Error 15 is always related to misplaced or wrong configuration of Grub in the partition, I did several searching via Google, and found this possible solution HowTo Boot into openSUSE when it won't Boot from the Grub Code on the Hard Drive . So I tried the " Broken Grub menu: boot to the menu, drop to a console and boot openSUSE direct " method. But rightly after the " find /boot/grub/menu.lst " command as instructed in the solution, it returned with ( hd0,0 ) and ( hd0,4 ). Why there are 2 bootloader in the Grub ? Which bootloader should I choose ? And for convenience, here is my " menu.lst " folder that I get via Terminal in Ubuntu 9.10 :

Jul 22, 2011I'm having some problems compiling mednafen on Suse 11.4. When I run configure, things work fine until I get the following series of errors:

configure: error: *** OpenGL header file not found! I've seen references in a few places that these type ("Present But Cannot Be Compiled") can usually be ignored, but in this case ./configure fails and I can't make. I am unsure why this is, as I've installed mednafen on Suse 11.4 before and it runs fine. I've tried installing various OpenGL-related packages that I can find (Mesa, freeglut, glib, etc) but nothing seems to solve the problem
General :: Booting (GRUB And LFS) File Not Found
Mar 15, 2010I am having issues booting my LFS system on my hp nc8230 notebook running LFS SVN. Grub was built and installed per the book. My file system is almost as simple as it gets:
/dev/sda1 is swap
/dev/sda2 is my LFS partition /
The LFS live cd still uses the now deprecated drivers for HDD's thus as far as the livecd is concerned my block devices is (hd0) and /dev/hda2 for the root respectively. However the kernel to be booted runs on the newer drivers thus on boot my block device should be referenced as /dev/sda2 for the root. Grub is in fact installed on the MBR what happens is right when my system boots I get a file not found error the grub CFG is pointing to the correct block device and root partition from what can be seen by looking at the grub.

Nov 4, 2010Toshiba notebook is set up to triple boot win7, mepis 8.5 and os 11.3.Recent update of os11.3 left system with boot failure, "file not found".I booted mepis and used utility to reinstall grub, but no joy.
Appeared to install ok but on reboot, sda5 identified as 'mepis' not os11.3 and would not boot. Win7 & mepis boot ok.
Next, booted live Parted Magic and repaired as per another thread here, but again, no joy.NONE of the systems will boot.Rebooted mepis live cd and reinstalled grub again. Sda5 still identified as mepis and will not boot. Win7 & mepis boot ok.

General :: Clearing Error 15 From Grub - File Not Found
Mar 4, 2011I am using Ubuntu 10.10 dual booted with windows vista. My boot is in a separate partition (sda5). My computer told me that there was limited space on that partition so I tried to clean things up using apt-get by removing old kernels. Turns out I didn't do it correctly because I consistently get an 'ERROR 15' when I shut down and rebooted my computer. I have a live-CD USB-stick so I tried reinstalling grub, (grub-install) updating the menu.lst (update-grub), and manually going through menu.lst and changing to root=(hd0,4) and groot=/dev/sda6. But I still get this ERROR 15 when I reboot.
when I do
sudo grub
find /boot/grub/stage1
find /boot/stage1
Both give me an ERROR 15 message and I'm not sure how to proceed with a diagnosis. When I ran update-grub, occasionally it used to tell me that /etc/fstab may be incorrect. Here is /boot/grub (note that stage 1 does exist!) ( this is /dev/sda5)

Apr 26, 2011I'm trying to install eCryptfs in my new Slackware system. ./configure runs pretty well, without errors, but when a try to run `make` i got this:

What's going wrong?, why the compiler can't find the header if it's installed? I don't have too much experience compiling package, and it's the first time i try to it in Slackware.
