Jun 11, 2010I want to create a "Shared Memory" in linux, then create multiple "Shared Objects" that can access to a Table for example; And one of them can write something into the Table and the other can access and read it, so that these operations can be handled by programmer! I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 and I've set it's runlevel at 3 (I have commandline environment now!) I've searched the Internet so much, but couldn't find a good sample code for this! I have no experience about it and need your help to introduce me a sample code about it and advise me how to compile and use it with "GCC"?!

Well, I am facing problem when doing lab questions.
I must use DLXLinux bundled in Bochs (bochs.sourceforge.net).
I am required to use the /usr/local directory.
In /usr directory, there is no directory named 'local' but there is one thing called 'local@'. So, when I try to use mkdir command to create 'local' directory in /usr , there are error "cannot make directory.....".

The spool directory /var/spool/samba has been shared as a printer. What will be the harm caused by it? (I don't know who shared such). And I also wanted to know the security issue due to it..
General :: Shared FTP Directory - Separate User Permissions
Mar 30, 2011I am trying to setup 2 individual FTP users. They should both have access to the same directory. They both need to be able to read/write into the directory. But, I want them not to be able to write to each other's files (e.g. delete, remove, rename, etc.).
So let's say the shared directory is: /home/ftp/shared/
UserA needs read/write access to /home/ftp/shared/. UserA should only have write access to his own files. UserB also needs read/write access to /home/ftp/shared/. UserB should only have write access to his own files.
It would be a unix box of sorts, but that is the only restriction. I could use whatever software. I am currently thinking pure-ftpd or vsftp but I am open to all ideas.
General :: Inability To Accessing Shared Directory Through An Unreadable One?
Apr 15, 2010I want to share my /home/myname/Public/ directory with other users on my system. The problem I am having is that it seems impossible to do so. I can't use a hard link because it's a directory and I can't use a soft link because the target directory can't be found by anyone unable to read my home directory.
So far, the only solutions I can see are:
1) To move everything from my Public directory to one lower on the directory tree (something like /home/Public) and then symlink to that as /home/myname/Public and allow everyone else to do the same.
2) To use something like samba to share the folder, even if only locally.
is doable because /home and /home/myname are on the same volume but there are times on my system when that is not true (I have users with their home directories on thumbdrives and external HDDs for instance and keeping their public files on a separate volume really isn't an option).

Jul 28, 2011I'm mounting a shared folder in an arch linux guest on a windows 7 host in Virtual Box. The shared folder's filesystem is ext3 and is mounted in windows 7 with Ext2Fsd. I mount the shared folder at boot with this fstab:
D_DRIVE /home/tony vboxsf rw,gid=1000,uid=1000,auto 0 0
I believe my user in the guest OS has the right uid and gid:
[tony@kiwi ~]$ id uid=1000(tony) gid=1000(tony) groups=1000(tony),1002,(vboxsf)
I can create files and remove them fine, but I can't seem to create directories.
[tony@kiwi ~]$ mkdir foo mkdir: cannot create directory `foo': Protocol error
Its weird because the directory looks like its there, sort of.

Jun 18, 2011I have a Virtual Private Server which I can connect to using SSH with my root account, being able to execute any linux command and access all the disk area, obviously.
I would like to create another user account, which would be able to access this server using SSH too, but only to a certain directory, for example /var/www/example.com/
For example, imagine this user has a HUGE error.log file (500 MB) located in /var/www/example.com/logs/error.log
When accessing this file using FTP, this user needs to download 500 MB to view the last lines of the log, but I'd like him to be able to execute something like this:
Therefore I need him to be able to access the server using SSH, but I don't want to grant him access to all server areas.

I want to be able to work on the project in both systems and have the changes I make show in both. So my questions is how can I make "localhost" point to the windows www instead of the /var/www one when I start up the server?
