General :: Docky Won't Retain "shortcuts" After Reboot. - Ubuntu Karmic

Mar 15, 2010

using docky, i want to add a app to launch to it, i go to my main menu in gnome right click on app and click on "add launcher to desktop", drag icon to the docky and upon seeing the little plus sign drop it on and it aligns nicely. i do this to my frequented apps and its all good, its really cool. i reboot......They turn to some generic default white blah icon and when i attempted to find the cause i ran docky -v in terminal and i get this:

Security :: Audit.rules Does Not Retain Certain Settings After Reboot Or Service Restart?

Jan 11, 2011

I'm using RHEL 5 with the Enhanced Security. Using the suggest NISPOM Red Hat documented settings (located on the system; copy - paste) I have managed to audit failed file open accesses however, this setting only retained if I enter it at the command line (/sbin/auditctl -a ). If I reboot the system or restart the service all my -a (not -w) located in the /etc/audit/audit.rules are not retained.

Ubuntu :: Random Reboot Shutdown In Karmic 9.10?

Jan 19, 2010

I recently migrated from Hardy 8.04 LTS (32) to Karmic 9.10 (32) so that the restricted ATI drivers and CCC would work correctly - that part is basically fine.

The problem for the past couple of weeks has been Karmic randomly shutting down, and rebooting the system after 1 or 2 hours up-time.

Why would this be happening, it was fine for the first few weeks after installing Karmic.

My system currently consists of the following;
Gigabyte MA790FX-DS5 mainboard - Jan '08
AMD 3.0Ghz Phenom II X4 945 CPU - Oct '09
4GB DDR2 Kingston HyperX RAM (1066 MHz) - Jul '09
Sapphire ATI HD5770 1GB GDDR5 video - Dec '09
Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus 640 watt power supply - Nov '09
Cooler Master Centurion 5 CAC-T05 case - Jan '08
1 pata 500 GB, 3 sata 500 GB & 1 sata 640 GB drives
2 DVD burners (Pioneer and LG)
2 x 19" (4:3) Samsung SyncMaster 943N LCD monitors

I used to have lmsensors working with the Athlon 2.8GHz dual core in Hardy, but they wouldn't work with the new Phenom 3.0 GHz 945 CPU in Hardy (and they still won't work in Karmic).

Th upshot is that I don't have cpu, system, or graphics temps; nor do I have any fan speeds, so I don't know what temps or fan speeds my system is running without rebooting into BIOS (which isn't much good as I really need to know what's happening when I'm using the OS itself).

Does anyone know what could be causing this random shut-down/reboot problem?

General :: Way To Get Docky To Launch A New Instance?

Apr 22, 2010

So i'm really loving the whole gnome-do/docky thing. My question is that on other docks, you can hold down a modifier key to launch a new instance rather then switching to an already opened instance of an app. So lets say I have chrome on the win7 dock

first click launches chrome
other clicks will focus the opened window
shift click will open a new instance of chrome
ctrl-shift-click will launch a new instance as admin

Is there anything similar in docky?

General :: Docky Shows Default Launcher Icon On Ubuntu?

May 13, 2011

I am using docky on Ubuntu. I want to have a launcher for intellij in my docky bar, but I have an issue. No matter which method for adding the launcher to the dock I use, the intellij icon specified in my .desktop won't display. Instead I get the lame spring board launcher icon. Once I launch intellij it creates another icon on docky. So now I have intellij's correct icon and the spring board launcher icon. Once I close intellij we are back to just the spring board again.Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?I shouldalso note that "idea" launches a shell script if that mattersDesktop file

General :: Kubuntu: After KWin Crashed - Something Happened To Docky - Screenlets And Others

Jul 3, 2011

for instance, it said that "docky needs proper composition to work properly" when it was working properly before. after having too many flash applications open, after clicking on a link to a videos video, everything crashed, and it said that *for the 20th time now in a week* that kwin has crashed. then i tried to log out and log back in since that normally fixed everything, but i couldn't log out, instead i had to killall xorg but all that showed next was a black screen instead of what it should have shown, the login screen. i had reboot from the terminal and the login screen was normal, but when i booted in to kde, everything that needed opengl and composition crashed. docky doesn't have a black box around it, but it won't intellihide like it should *and i tried to set it back to that setting but it didn't give me the option to*

General :: Create FTP Shortcuts To Another Folder?

Nov 7, 2010

How can I create shortcut from one ftp folder to another using SFTP client such as WinSCP with Putty?

For example, application path is /home/primary/webapps/appication/

We have created new user with default home directory /home/secondary/

Using Bash command:

setfacl -R -m u:secondary:rwx /home/primary/webapps/appication/

we added full Read-Write permission for secondary user.

To access application folder he suppose to type full path to application folder which is not so convenient for daily usage.

As a solution I would like to create some shortcuts in home directory to this folders as I seen something similar in default cPanel configuration where PUBLIC_HTML folder has some alias such as WWW.

Ubuntu :: How To Retain Mounted Drives In 9.10

Jan 25, 2010

On my computer I have one IDE drive that is my boot drive and a mirrored SATA raid set. When I login as "root" and mount the SATA volume it's always there. When I logout or shutdown if I login as root it's always mounted. I want to do the same thing for my own user ID. I did a search on having volumes mounted when I boot but they seem related to older versions of Ubuntu. It almost seems like a permissions problem since the "root" ID mounts the volume when I boot and my user ID does not.

Ubuntu :: Get Rid Of Compiz But Still Retain Compositing

May 23, 2010

Ive been having some really severe problems with compiz on my computer, and Im at a point of utter frustration.

I want to take compiz off of my computer, but I do not want to lose compositing effects, because I run docky (which needs it to run)

Essentially, the problem with compiz, in a nutshell, is that it continually freezes on me when I try to scroll a webpage too fast, or if a fast-paced flash video plays, or anything that might choke up the window manager does. I end up having to pull up a terminal, killall compiz, then restart it manually; it works again until I try to scroll too quickly or something and then it will lock up again.

I know I could run compiz on this computer, but I dont know why this current version will not cooperate, so in lieu of finding a solution, I kinda want to just purge it.

Ubuntu :: Visual Effects Don't Retain.

Aug 30, 2010

My Acer laptop Travelmate 290 was fine till yesterday (ie) before full update. No Error.I have the recent Ubuntu. Later When I boot I can't find my cursor but I could randomly see pop up notification of Application----Places--- System could be read. When I open any folder its fixed to top of the screen and no button for minimise, max and close. When I dig thro all the forums and solved by reinstalling metacity and change the setting of Appearance-Visual Effects to Normal. When I set to Normal it scans for the driver and asking me to confirm the setting.Once confirmed all the above problems solved but it don't reatain it,it is jump back to none. I need to do this on every boot.Is any way to avoid this? Is anyway to clean all the compiz files and setting from the PC?I vaguely remember it may be because of uninstall of compiz.

I installed Google Chrome and replaced firefox with chrome in the launcher. So everything works fine until I reboot. Firefox is back. I saw this a couple of times so I though why not just get rid of firefox. Unfortunately now there's nothing in place of firefox.

I tried unity --reset but that just shows a bunch of errors. I have dconf-tools and libdconf0 installed.
