I have a testing application, under which I need to disable Ctrl-x and Few other keys...
My Problem is If i disable Ctrl Key using xmodmap command..All the other Ctrl combination are getting disabled...For ex: Ctrl-s, Ctrl-a etc..My goal is to enable some combination of Ctrl key and disabling some combination of Ctrl key..
Volume up, volume down and mute keys on the keyboard don't control the volume any longer.They worked before. Hitting the keys brings up a progress bar widget with the volume level unchangeable, set at 0% (which is not accurate at all).It looks like the key mappings or key bindings are working, but there is a disconnect with actual functionality. The volume cannot be changed or muted anymore from the keyboard.
This worked just fine in KDE on Fedora 11 before upgrading KDE components yesterday with Yumex. I am now using KDE 4.3.2 I don't think that it's a coincidence that it stopped working after doing an update.
I updated the kernel and nVidia drivers too, but this problem exists when I went back and tested with the previous kernel, so I don't suspect the kernel upgrade. No info in Xorg.conf about the keyboard. Is there a setting that I am missing?
Sound works just fine. I can listen to whatever source I like. This is not a problem with the sound drivers as far as I can tell.I just want to be able to control the volume with the keys on my Logitech Illuminated Keyboard, model Y-UY95. Is anyone else experiencing this?I can adjust the volume with Kmix 3.5 or GNOME Volume Control V2.1
I installed Keytouch in a useless attempt to allow me to brighten my screen (but that's another thread...) and now the control keys don't work. I tried a couple of files that were supposed to be my keyboard, but neither worked. I don't want to mess with it any more, but I can't figure out how to uninstall it!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't care if this is done in the bios or a kernel module or software. Is there any way at all to do make the 'fn' key act as 'control' and the 'control' key act as 'fn' in linux running on a macbook pro?
PS. You can do this with software in OSX with the application KeyRemap4MacBook.
In Fedora 10 they decided to change to "evdev", so if you used xmodmap in F9, these mapping have changed in F10 and F11 for that matter. In order to find the new key values start

This layout is MUCH more logical than the original. Now Delete is the key just to the right of the Backspace key. Back spaces deletes to the left, and Delete deletes to the right, so these keys shoudl of course be next to each other Page Up, Page Down, Home, and End now have the same structure as the arrow keys below. This layout makes it much easier to navigate without looking at the keys, because now the layout makes sense And why shouldn't 0 be to the left of 1? of course it should. 0 is lower than 1.
I have a problem with keyboard mappings on F13. I have the following in my .xmodmap file that is run from .bash_profile:

The problem is that at seemingly random times the roles of the caps lock and control keys (and the other customisations) gets reverted back to normal - which makes for an awful lot of confusion! Running xmodmap again switches them to how I like it, but again after a seemingly random period it resets itself. This occurs under KDE and Gnome in F13, but did not occur in F12. Using the KDE keyboard settings dialog to switch caps lock and control does the exhibits the same behaviour.
It used to be in /etc/inittab... but how is it configured in systemd now?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Samsung N150 and ubuntu 10.10 is installed in it. There is problem with brightness control i.e., I cannot control my brightness by up & down keys. I made settings such as:
I Add the repository to the sources list and enable it
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:voria/ppa
Perform complete system update
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
it may take long time depending the internet connection
than I installed packages "samsung-backlight" and "easy-slow-down-manager"
sudo apt-get install samsung-backlight easy-slow-down-manager
Also I made changes in brightness setting in during the boot i.e set to user control instead of automatic. But after doing all these stuff still my laptop brightness not control by fn + up/down keys.
control keys aren't working most of the time in Open Office. I can copy, cut and paste with the mouse, but Control+C/X/V/Z is not working at all. I also use intellij idea, there I have the same problem, but I can use its own defined control+alt+space. I've tried Abiword, the control keys worked at the begging but then after a while when I used control+something(C/X/V/Z), it always selected everything. Besides that, the control keys are working perfectly in nautilus, terminal, firefox, chrome, gedit. I'm using Ubuntu 9.10.

I would like to use my multimedia keys on the laptop.
As I have seen in kde, they are recognized already, very good.
But I would like to use the play-pause, ffd, rwd and stop button in a special way.
After pressing one of them , a programm or script is called, which does:
a) determine the entries ( in a list ) of assigned applications to be controlles by this mm-buttons. ( The list can be edited, I decide to add vlc, amarok, flash plugin for firefox )
b) determine, which of the applications are running actually.
c) determine, which of this applications has the focus ( means, which of them ( if all more running ) is "the active one".
d) issue its shell command, which corresponds to the keyhit ( play, pause, fwd, rwd, stop )
Now my question : Is it all possible via shell/and or x-script?
If not, i will have to code something, i suppose.
Just installed the Ubuntu for the first time and I have a problem. My keyboard's "a" key is faulty, it's acting like it's stuck, that is it is constantly typing aaaas so I had to disable it and reassign the letter "a" to another key. I did this quite easily in Windows with a program called KeyTweak...
Now that I started working in Ubuntu, the damn thing started acting just as it did under windows and it's constantly typing a all over the place, so I can't get any work done. How do I disable the key "a" and reassign "a" to another key(like q for instance)? Are there any programs for key remapping in Ubuntu or I'll have to do it manually? If so, how?
Under System > Preferences > Keyboard Preferences there is an option to en/dis able "Key presses repeat when key is held down".
Is there by chance a command to en/disable this option? (edit: meaning a terminal, or 'run application' type command)
Seems a little far-fetched, but for how often I toggle this..

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having a lot of problems with hitting the arrow keys while typing. At least, I think that's what it is. Maybe the page up/down/back buttons, too. Is there a way to disable one or more keys on the keyboard via software, other than going into BIOS? It's getting annoying having to retype stuff over and over. I guess maybe I'm just not used to my new keyboard, is all. But I never use those buttons and likely never will.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got myself a a Filco Majestouch Convertible 2 which is a USB/bluetooth keyboard.
When I use it in USB mode it works perfectly. I would like to use it in bluetooth mode and I've found that it has problems. When I hit either Numlock or Capslock it stops responding.
I'm running Debian Testing and it was last updated a few days ago (02/05/2015). I've tested the keyboard using Ubuntu 14.04 live cd and it worked flawlessly even hitting Numlock & Capslock didn't stop it.
If I run btmon to monitor the keyboard it shows that after I've hit capslock or numlock it still sends signals to the computer. So there is information being sent to the computer but these characters do not make themselves to my application. I'm just testing with a terminal window.

I don't know if this is a configuration issue or a hardware issue, but I have a Kinesis Advantage USB keyboard and for some reason the F3-F5 keys aren't responding as they used to. They don't respond to anything and, when I tried using F5 on Emacs, it said <XF86AudioNext> is undefined, so I guess it's a weird mapping problem.
Any idea how I could remap them to the original meaning?
Is there any way to disable shortcut keys in XFCE Terminal ? I can't seem to bind the shortcut keys, and F1 especially really gets in the way for some programs. Have no clue who thought it would be a good idea to bind F1 to a stupid help screen, when many terminal programs need this. I am using fluxbox, so maybe this has something to do with it.

It has five buttons on the front just under the screen, which are the only ones accessible when you flip the screen over into tablet mode. One of them is for rotating the screen, and another is for switching to external display. I have a StreamZap IR remote control and receiver.It is setup with LIRC and I use it with MythTV. Around a year ago some update caused Gnome to respond to a few of the remote's button presses.For example, using the volume buttons on my remote will have the same affect as using the volume buttons on my keyboard, or playing with the panel applet.It didn't do this before, and I liked it that way. But I see no way to disable Gnome's responses to my remote.I tried Googling to no avail.

Usually but not always, when I try to scroll down by clicking in the vertical scroll bar - instead of going down approx 1 screen firefox slowly and jerkily and out of control goes all the way to the bottom of the page. If it is a long page I wait a long time.
The wheel on the mouse works fine, moving the vertical scroll handle with the mouse works fine, pushing the down arrow also works fine.
Alternatively - sometimes the vertical scroll works as I expect it to.
Alterntively - when I use Opera it scrolls as I would expect.
I have Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome. Whenever I put in a blank CD/DVD an icon on the desktop appears named "Blank CD/DVD" and a window appears asking me what I want to do with it. How do I disable the window and the icon from the desktop?
