I'm calling a function defined in "uart.c" from "main.c"
But on "make" using cygwin bash, it's giving an error:"Unreferenced function"...
Pls help me to overcome this problem.
If i'm putting the definition of that function in "main.c" itself, its working.
So pls tell me how to write the make file for it?

As part of the assignment, I have created a namespace and saved in it a .cpp file. The functions, constants and typedefs from the namespace are now used in one of the original files, and so I added an <#include MyFile.cpp> to the file I modified, in addition to a using MyNamespace;
When I try to use the original makefile, the compiler gives a lot of errors about multiple definitions of every function in the namespace. What do I need to do to resolve this? Do I need to change the makefile or one of the files themselves? I am new to Linux programming and makesfiles.
I've been trying to figure out how to use make and makefile to compile and link some .cpp/.h. All i seem to find on google says to read the README for the software. But this is my own created c++ project. Im just looking for a simple makefile for my own .cpp/.h files( about 20 total).
I have tried using 2 different makefile "examples" as a template, but neither worked. I am getting error saying "file1.cpp: no newline character at end of file". or something to that degree.
in directory a_dir, have a file named a_file.i can type "source a_file" under directory a_dir and execute successfully.but if i write the command to a Makefile under directory b_dir, the "source" function can't be executed well. it will generate some error message like this:

./a_file: line 2: setenv: command not found
./a_file: line 3: setenv: command not found
./a_file: line 5: setenv: command not found
I've been trying to work out a way to stop chunks of code being compiled using a variable in my makefile but can't work it out. What I mean is for example in my code I might have.

I only wish this code to be compiled when I'm debugging. What I've tried is using #ifdef with

Then in my make file I set COMM_PORT_DEBUG to 1 so
DEBUG_DEFS = COMM_PORT_DEBUG=1
I then thought I could put it into my in my link line
all: $(CC) $(CPFLAGS) $(DEBUG_DEFS) $(INC_PATHS) $(SOURCE) -o $(PROGRAM) $(LIB_DIRS) $(GAME_LIBS)
but this gives a
gcc: COMM_PORT_DEBUG=1: No such file or directory
is there a way to do this sort of thing? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
I have question about the UNIX sockets. my goal is to connect multiple sockets from a single client to a single server and keep them open...I'm not sure if that is possible to create or not. Do you have any suggestion or an example of code?

Makefile.in a file that is generated by tool, why it is in the source package? I am asking since , when I modified Makefile.am, I need to run automake to update the makefile.in, while I don't think this should be done manually.

But the source or the dot operator (shell is bash) does not seem to take any effect as the subsequent command didn't pick the environment up. I need to transpose a file with over a 1000 rows of 5 columns of numbers into a file with a single column of numbers. The numbers are separated by a single space and range from one digit to 5 digits each. I tried using awk, but can only get it to grab one column of numbers.

Tried using: awk '{split($0,a,""); print $NF}' <filename> and got:
50
10
15
It only grabbed the last number in each row.
So I've been trying to get GIMP 2.7 installed on my Slackware64 13.0, but I'm having some issues. After some extensive finagling and dependence findings, I got it to configure correctly, however, the make fails with libtool trying to find libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la:
libtool: link: cannot find the library '..//usr/lib64/pkgconfig/gdk-pixbuf/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la' or unhandled argument '..//usr/lib64/pkgconfig/gdk-pixbuf/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la'
libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la is in /usr/lib64/pkgconfig/, but for whatever reason, editing the makefile doesn't change this. (Yes I have the right permissions to edit it). First of all, why is it searching for /usr in the top build directory, and second, why doesn't an edit of the makefile work?

Is this the correct way to add new folders (with contents) to the repository? We are restructuring the trunk, so I cleared it out and plan on putting these directories with their contents in it.

For some reason, if I copy and paste this into a terminal, it creates 7 detached screen sessions as I expect. If I run it from within a script, however, I get only the first session, "somename," when I run screen -ls.
Edit: If the same can be accomplished another way (e.g. with multiple screen windows instead of sessions), I would be open those solutions as well.
