I want to use eclipse to compile and debug source code on ns-2 simulator.
1.how can i configure the parameter on eclipse.
2.how can i compile the source code *.cc
I've been trying to work out a way to stop chunks of code being compiled using a variable in my makefile but can't work it out. What I mean is for example in my code I might have.

I only wish this code to be compiled when I'm debugging. What I've tried is using #ifdef with
#ifdef COMM_PORT_DEBUG

Then in my make file I set COMM_PORT_DEBUG to 1 so
DEBUG_DEFS = COMM_PORT_DEBUG=1
I then thought I could put it into my in my link line
all: $(CC) $(CPFLAGS) $(DEBUG_DEFS) $(INC_PATHS) $(SOURCE) -o $(PROGRAM) $(LIB_DIRS) $(GAME_LIBS)
but this gives a
gcc: COMM_PORT_DEBUG=1: No such file or directory
is there a way to do this sort of thing? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
I've created a GUI for my voip software wherein i'm using the source code of linphone 3.3.2 for video and all protcol stuffs . It is like i've got my own gtk GUI instead of the linphone's glade . Hope you get the picture of what i'm doing . I would like to know how to compile the source code since because i do not know about make files and stuffs . Kindly help me solve this .

I'm using jdb, and, due to network architecture, I can only use jdb do debug in text-mode. To debug in text-mode I use the command: jdb -attach remotesite: port. At this point this is ok. Now I would like to attach the source code to the jdb. I tried the command
jdb -attach remotesite: port ~/src/org/path/file.java
to attach the source code to the remote debug to. But it doesn't work. In jdb, I try the command use ~/src/org/path/file.java but it doesn't work either. How can I attach the source code to the remote debug?
I am using Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers under Linux/fedora to run and debug my ns-2.34 project. To configure ns-2.34 with eclipse I did this:

I downloaded wine from a windows laptop, but because you have to have a computer running Linux to download it as a .deb package, I had to download the source code as a tar. bz2.

I've taken the source code for Zlib1.2.3, built and installed in a 64 Bit linux machine. Then when i downloaded Python 2.5.4 source and tried to build(make), i got the following error

Recently I was trying to use Gentoo, and I was really impressed of how it is faster than Ubuntu in running applications, specially when I build wine and was able to run Oblivion at a reasonable speed. I would like to know if there is a way to compile Ubuntu from source code, to optimize it to my hardware.

The issue now is that the nVidia installer from their website wants the source code to build the right packages for this machine, however, I do not have the src directory with the source code that it is looking for. Is there some way to give this too it now?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt's been a very long time since I did much C development and I'm trying to contribute to a PECL extension for PHP. PHP and the PECL extensions are written in C and I'd like to set up my dev environment so that I can use a nice IDE (like Eclipse) and debug my code, stepping through it within a nice GUI. I'm hoping to develop on a linux box (Ubuntu 10) rather than Windows.
The main issue I have is that I don't know how to configure Eclipse (with CDT) so that it runs the entire process: configure/make/make install and then allows me to step through my code within the Eclipse GUI IDE. I have managed to edit files and then build from the command line and then use GDB to step through the code, but that's *REALLY* tedious.
Also, the PHP source codebase is quite large and takes several minutes to build. I'm hoping I might be able to limit the build to just one particular extension rather than rebuilding the whole things. Lastly, I'd like to avoid installing the new, possibly broken, code in order to run it. Unless I'm mistaken, the build process results in a binary being constructed in the source directory and I'd like to debug using that new binary before I bother to install it on my system. Sorry if these questions seem really basic. Like I said, it's been awhile and I'm hoping to get back on the horse quickly.
I am trying to debug a src code that I download from the Internet.It is built with libtool. I am able to debug it with gdb, but i cannot debug it with eclipse.

It's not convenient to move to the directory that contains the source code every time I want to compile it. So is there a way to compile a code from the my current directory (say /home example) without moving to the directory that contains the source. I remember being able to do this but forgotten how.

i searched and i found that This happens if a library used for linking is not present in the standard library directories used by gcc.
By default, gcc searches the following directories for header files:

and the following directories for libraries:

i update my libssh from libssh-0.4.2-1.fc13.i686 to libssh-0.4.6-1.fc13.i686, and there are files called libssh.so.4 and libssh.so.4.0.2 in /ur/lib, but i still can't compile it with this command:
gcc test.c

So, now we know where exactly the problem occures. I know only these three commands to debug using gdb. But in case of ns-2 code, I don't know how to use gdb.
I changed a routing protocol's C++ code in ns-2 and successfully recompiled ns-2 but when I run any tcl script with that particular protocol, I get 'segmentation fault'. Now I want to trace what part of the code is causing this. I have tried using 'printf's at suspectable places. Is this possible to debug ns-2 code with gdb just like the segfault.c above? I am useing fedora 9.

is there a way to debug my library files from DDD? Basically a way to pass the paths to DDD so I can view the source etc. I'm having a segmentation nightmare, which only crops up about every 10 or so starts, I know it's in one file in a library. I could move the source file into my general code to debug, but am sure there's a way in DDD.
