I have been trying to compile a pascal file using fpc. I succeeded using the command fpc pas1.pas, but this gave me a new object file pas1.o. How do i compile this file to get my output. gcc -o pas1.o does not work.
I did a clean install for ubuntu 11.04. Having seen the power of Gnome 3 (with Fedora) I installed it right away. Some minor problem arose and I had to deinstall accessibility themes and install the "standard" gnome themes. However there is one more problem and I've added a screen shot to show the problem. As you can see, the gnome desktop seems pretty cool but however the tweak tool doesn't show properly (empathy and other apps neither).
Besides the fact that the themes don't properly show in this screen I also get the error "User Theme extension not enabled" now I get the feeling these problems are related, but how do I fix it? I've searched everywhere but as far as I know I seem to be the only one with this problem. I would love to take the full advantage of a Gnome 3 desktop but this is getting to be a big "bump" in the road.
When i have enable xinerama for 2 displays and i enable visual effect it says The "Composite extension is not available" but i have enabled it in "xorg.conf" but effect are working with not enabled xinerama.

I have gnome-shell installed on Ubuntu 11.04, and installed gnome-tweak. When I open it and try to change the theme, however, it says the user-theme extension is not enabled. How to I fix this?
No matter which glibc I use, I get the error that I need a compiler that supports visibility. I'm using 4.4.5, so it can't be too old. What is the visibility for gnu, this is a compile for glibc.Any glibc fails for the same reason. I can't compile an older version of gcc, more errors. Is it possible to turn off the check for visibility?
I am trying to run matlab 7.7 (R2008b) on my ubuntu 9.10 distribution..the thing is that I am totally new with both matlab and linux and I get the following error message from matlab when I try to run an example mex-function:
Warning: You are using gcc version "". The earliest gcc version supported with mex is "4.0.0". The latest version tested for use with mex is "4.2.0". To download a different version of gcc, visit [URL] eval: 1: gcc: Permission denied mex: compile of ' "yprime.c"' failed. Error using ==> mex at 213 Unable to complete successfully.
I had gcc-4.4 as default on my pc, so after this error I downloaded an older version (gcc-4.1) and removed with rm the symbolic link in /usr/bin pointing to gcc-4.4 and created a new one pointing to gcc-4.1. Now when I type gcc -v in the terminal it says that gcc is in the packages gcc and pentium-builder, to do an apt-get install. I tried that but than it says that gcc-4.1 is already the newest version. It seems that I have multiple versions of gcc installed but neither the terminal nor matlab can find them.

I'm attempting to compile the latest version of VLC from source. I'm able to run ./configure without any errors, however when I try to make I receive the following error. I don't want to install the program from the repositories because it's outdated and the tray icon doesn't blend in.
Is there an easy way to update Perl from repos or do I need to compile from source to get a newer version?
Longer version I'm trying to set-up MailScanner which requires a newer version of Perl IO than CentOS 5 appears to have in it's standard repos. I've also tried updating Perl from the rpmforge repo - but that just results in a bunch of transaction conflicts being reported by Yum. Is there another way of updating Perl from repos?
Which LXDE version of Linux has the newest version of Firefox and Open Office included?
I am looking for an iso file, and I am trying to run this off of a live CD for now. So I want a light version of Linux, probably LXDE, or if not, then probably XFCE. But I need a new version of Firefox and OpenOffice included.
Because, I tried burning the customizable NimbleX @ custom.nimblex.net . Pretty good, except it uses Firefox 2, and Open Office 2.3, which are outdated.
And I tried Mint XFCE, which might have been pretty good too, but it had some issue of blanking and requiring relogin after I opened hotmail frequently (user id: mint, password: blank).
The web browser and the word processing program are the most important and essential applications to me.
So are there any Linux versions in LXDE on LiveCD that include newer versions of Firefox (or at least another good browser) and Open Office (oo seems better than abi)? (Again, if no LXDE, perhaps XFCE?)
I just want to download a good version in an iso file, and burn it to a CD and get to work. Like I said the web browser and the word processing program are all important.
So really, what iso/LiveCD versions are the fastest for running on an older system, and yet have the newest browser and word processor included?
I've been looking for this downloading software so i found it with an extension of .tar.gz !! It creeped me out because like in Windows i expected "next".."next".. then "finish"..goosh it was something else! how to instal it to my new "Ubuntu Deskop",
i have just installed peppermint ice and the default browser is chromium but when i used firefox there was a up and down arrow at the side of a web page, there is no arrows in chromium and i was wondering if anyone knows if there is an extension to install one in chromium?
I am developing an extension for firefox that enables users to chat with any others who happen to be browsing the same website at the same time. The xul file adds a tool bar with a button "Enable Chat" in the browser toolbox. when a user clicks the Enable chat button, the server initiates the chat. I went through many tutorials for extension development. They have helped. But I cant seem to get my extension up properly. Ill just put up the contents of my files for extension..
/home/neethusha/extensions/blaze (blaze is the name of the extension) chrome/content/blaze.xul install.rdf chrome.manifest
[Code]....
I made the pointer to the extension in a file named "blazebutton @anywhere.com" and saved it in the firefox profile folder "/home/neethusha/.mozilla/firefox/d5ma3rr9.dev/extensions"
When i open the firefox in this profile, the extension is not loading...

I am using Firefox 4 on Linux with the DownThemAll extension. On random occasions DownThemAll will start on its own against my will, such as:
When I press Enter after entering a link in the address bar When I click an entry from the address bar When I click a link on a page
One possible solution might be to remove DownThemAll and reinstall it. However removing the extension doesn't clear any of its settings, so I am stuck.
Suppose there is a directory named mydir containing ... aaa.cpp aaa.h bbb.cpp bbb.h Makefile a b Where a,b are executable files. What I want to is to only copy a and b to another location. Is it possible? (other than by manually issuing copy a,b another_dir).
I am playing with my LAMP server1. why can i access a php file on the server only by typing http://serverip/file with no .php extension on?2. later i tryed to play with .htaccess, but when i uploaded it to the server it just disappeared, why is that
