We are using linux (Ubuntu ) to host our website and mails. There was a power problem and after restarting our servers, we are unable to access the co. website. When i try to access the mail by typing mail.domain, i am able to access the login page from within the network. Someone out of the network is unable to find the page[URL]
View 4 RepliesI upgraded from 9.10KK to 10.04LL recently. The process did not go well. I was first instructed to update KK, which I did. The update and subsequent upgrade had various difficulties, the specifics of which I do not recall. 10.04 ran,with various errors and abnormalities, for a couple days.
I have a Compaq Presario, SR1503WM with 750 meg of RAM. I normally boot to Ubuntu on my primary harddrive, but can redirect to a Win2K boot from the other drive. I'm in Windows now, sending this.
If I do a normal boot now, to Ubuntu, and select FF or Opera, I get "Could not Locate Remote Server". It suggests I uncheck "Work Offline". I do and this still gets me nowhere.
I went to System/Admin/Network Connections and all of the tabs were empty. In the WIRED tab, I clicked on ADD and a new WiredConnection1 was established, and,after reboot, is still there, but it does nothing.
I have a cable connecting me to the modem, haven't tried to install wireless yet. This has been sufficient for months, and as I said, still works for Windows.
I think I should go ahead and ReInstall 10.04LL. I upgraded without an install disk.
so how can I locate a printer behind a firewall? Is it possible to enumerate the subnet behind a router ( even if a connection has not been marked)?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am implementing an automated backup scheme so I created a shell script which first creates SQL dumps for all MySQL databases, then retrieves all websites from the /var/www directory of a remote server. The latter is working as I am using rsync to get the remote files.However, the MySQL dumps being retrieved are the ones from the local server which is not what I want. I want to get the SQL dumps from the remote server as well.I have a tunnel between the local and remote server which I can connect to without using any password (I added the public key to the authorized_hosts), so I tried to add the following code to the script:
ssh user@192.168.x.xxx
I then attempted to retrieve the SQL dumps and exited from the remote server. However this does not work as I still have to enter exit manually in the terminal for the SQL dumps to be retrieved from the remote host. I don't know why this is happening. This is what the script is trying to do:
//connect to remote server
ssh user@192.168.x.xxx
//retrieve SQL dumps
[code]...
Is there a way to connect to the remote host AND run the script's code on THAT remote host?
I'm new to the world of networking. Actually, I'm trying to change my desktop which has enough horse power to run heavy applications in to a server such that I may access it as a source safe server remotely (over the internet). I carry my laptop along all the times and would like to continue my development work when I find free time. You may ask way I wish to do that: There are commands that don't open an X-Window, e.g. xinput, xhost, etc.. and there are situations where you want to run them from remote.
I've been trying to make a cgi script that starts a program on a server and then shows the program on the servers screen. The cgi script is written in perl. I've been successful in making the program showing up on the screen through ssh by setting $DISPLAY to :0.0, I tried setting it to this in /etc/profile but when the cgi script ran nothing showed up on the screen. I tried having the script running it as a local user with "su - [user] -c [command]", this didn't help either.
In short what I'm trying to accomplish. When I press a button on a web page an slide show is supposed to start on a screen connected to the server.
I have given support for my clients since 1985 and used "Remote Session", "Carbon Copy", "pcAnywhere", "TightVNC", and a few others. My choice of preference is to have a server I can trust under my supervision in order to avoid exposing my clients and friends private information from getting exposed? Using TeamViewer, an excellent product, does not secure both my files and theirs because when we connect, we are in their server and if they choose to, can interrupt, copy files, etc. during a remote session. Are there Linux versions for remote support available like TeamViewer that would be in my direct control?

I want to use cPanel's backup suite to backup our customers accounts but I want to do it so the blank server is mounted to the cPanel server, rather than an FTP backup. If that makes sense. I believe from previous experience that NFS is the way to go but I'm not sure.

I have a problem while copying files from a remote computer to my local one using the scp command. I am sure that I am using it correctly, please check it below:

The other thing that I would like to mention is that these Geant4 Env. Variables are loaded each time a new (bash) shell is started as a result of the bash login script.
A hard disk occasionally fails. Standard checks like fsck and scandisk fail to report any problem. Is there other software to exercise the disk much more thoroughly so that bad sectors have no chance of being missed?

I have a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 server on my network & that I inherited with no documentation what so ever and it has an application called 'Clearquest' installed from IBM. This application uses some proprietary web server that gets installed with the 'Clearquest' application. My problem is I need to find the SSL certificate the web server is using. If this were Apache, I would look in '/etc/httpd/conf.d/http.conf' but there is no Apache software installed. Can someone please assist me in a way I can look through the RHEL 4 server for any trace of the SSL certificate. I don't know the actual name of the certificate but I know the server is rendering it on the web. When I type the address of my server in the URL field, I can see the servers SSL certificate. Now how I can find that certificate path / location on the server itself?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am ssh'ing into a remote server and then su'ing to root.The problem is that sometimes, I have not paid enough attention to the console message, and I have accidentally typed in the root password at the command prompt (when for example, I had failed to provide the root password correctly the first time - so su prompt went away).
I remember reading somewhere that a history of commands typed at the console is kept somewhere.I have 3 sub questions
Where (which folder) is the file stored?
Can I edit that file and remove the root password from it?
Being the paranoid person that I am, I wonder if there is a more secure way of logging into my server - other than ssh (or am I being TOO paranoid?)
