General :: Build Errors With Crosstool

Jun 15, 2011

I'm trying to install "crosstool" from [URL] in order to create an arm-linux-gcc toolchain for an ARM target. I'm using Slackware 9.0 as I'm using a program(Sim-panalyzer) which seems to install only on such old versions. The installation proceeds fine for about 30 mins until i get an error like

Code:
a - elf/dl-profstub.os
a - elf/dl-libc.os
a - elf/dl-sym.os
a - elf/dl-tsd.os

[Code].....

I tried Linux Mint and I was able to install flex and bison but after some stage of the crosstool installation I got an error like

"these packages are either missing or too old: as ld"

General :: Crosstool From X86 To Alpha Lacks Detailed Debug Information?

Apr 7, 2010

I have a working build of crosstool - it was built for gcc 3.4.3 using glibc 2.3.5 going from 32-bit x86 linux to 64-bit alpha linux. As far as I can tell -- it compiles correctly (output of alpha emulation matches expected) but it has a major flaw. When I use the cross compiler and attempt to add detailed debug information, it compiles, but does not have the debug information. For example, when I execute:

> /home/leporter/crosstool/gcc-3.4.3-glibc-2.3.5/alpha-unknown-linux-gnu/bin/alpha-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc-3.4.3 -g -o hello main.c

OR

> /home/leporter/crosstool/gcc-3.4.3-glibc-2.3.5/alpha-unknown-linux-gnu/bin/alpha-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc-3.4.3 -gstabs -o hello main.c

I get a working alpha binary for hello world. BUT - when I run objdump - this is what I get

> /home/leporter/crosstool/gcc-3.4.3-glibc-2.3.5/alpha-unknown-linux-gnu/bin/alpha-unknown-linux-gnu-objdump -g hello

hello: file format elf64-alpha

/home/leporter/crosstool/gcc-3.4.3-glibc-2.3.5/alpha-unknown-linux-gnu/bin/alpha-unknown-linux-gnu-objdump: hello: no recognized debugging information

Frustratingly - if I use my x86 gcc version 3.4.6 to do the compilation (same arguments, just using the x86 compiler, not the cross compiler) - it correctly embeds the debug information.

Ubuntu :: Make-kpkg Strange Vanilla Kernel Build Errors: Found 60 Section Mismatch(es) ?

Apr 30, 2011

I've getting strange build errors when using make-kpkg with the latest (2.6.39-rc5) vanilla kernel.I'm using the procedure outlined here:
https:[url]....e.g.:

Code:
make oldconfig CONCURRENCY_LEVEL=`getconf _NPROCESSORS_ONLN` fakeroot make-kpkg --initrd --append-to-version=-custom kernel_image kernel_headers

I'm getting the following build errors:

Code:
Building modules, stage 2.

WARNING: modpost: Found 60 section mismatch(es).To see full details build your kernel with:'make CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH=y'
CC arch/x86/crypto/aesni-intel.mod.o[code]....

There is even much more error output but it looks like it is basically the same issue.

SUSE :: Package A War File As An RPM Package - Always Giving Errors In %build Stage

Feb 14, 2011

Still I am asked to package a war file as an RPM package. That is an unusual RPM packaging(To me). If you guys could guide me I have a war file inside a folder, that folder is inside a tar file as a SOURCE for RPM package. The structure is like below.

[Code]...

I simply want that the war file from sources is transferred to the web app of my tomcat server through RPM. I try to package it as an RPM, but its always giving me errors in %build stage. When I try to remove %build from stage from the spec file, then it says command missing.

My system details are:
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (x86_64)
VERSION = 10
PATCHLEVEL = 1
LSB_VERSION="core-2.0-noarch:core-3.0-noarch:core-2.0-x86_64:core-3.0-x86_64"

OpenSUSE :: Find All The Build-deps Or What They Are For That Matter To Build Boxee

Feb 20, 2010

I'm in love with my Opensuse 11.2. Love my KDE 4.4. The only thing I miss from my Ubuntu installation, is the ability to use Boxee. I would be more than willing to compile Boxee from source. I only have 2 problems with that:

1) I don't know where I can find all the build-deps or what they are for that matter to build Boxee.

2) I'm running on a Netbook. Yes, my measly Intel Atom is no fun for compiling and building.

What are my options/what can I do to get Boxee up and running on 11.2? I've tried searching on build service for an RPM, but I think due to legal restrictions, Boxee can't be on there.

Slackware :: Install The I386 Build On One Partition And The 64-bit Build On Another

Sep 16, 2010

Trying to install SW 13.1 (on DVD) on the following system: M/B Intel: DX38BT Processor Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 - 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Socket 775 Memory Corsair Dual Channel 8192MB PC10600 DDR3 1333MHz Memory (4x2048MB) Graphics Diamond Radeon HD 3850 Video Card - Viper, 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 P/S Ultra 1000W

My goal is to install the i386 build on one partition and the 64-bit build on another. I have been away from Linux for a while and am sick to death of Win7, want to come home. :-}

Booted on i386 side of DVD, system freezes after a couple of lines that start with ATA2. Does not respond to 3 finger salute, ctrl-c, nothing. Have to press reset. I have tried both huge.s and hugesmp.s kernels

Booted on 64-bit side, comes up fine. I performed the install, selected for automatic lilo install. Lilo install hung but I was able to reboot. I booted off the 64-bit side again, entered the following: huge.s root=/dev/sde3 rdinit= ro It booted fully to the login prompt but the keyboard does not work, no input.

General :: Can't Build An Rpm

Aug 20, 2009

I'm building a perl rpm package, but cannot accomplish it under some conditions. I'm building the package on the Fed. 10 as this is my development distro. However the target machine runs on Fed. Core 4 and I cannot access it now in order to build the package there.

If, in the spec file I set 'INSTALLDIRS=vendor' the rpm gets created OK. If I set 'INSTALLDIRS=site', which is my final intention the rpmbuild cannot finish packaging. In the '%files' section the rpmbuild expects the man page to be in '/usr/share/man/man3' ( as to the %{_mandir} content ), however the man page keeps on ending in '/usr/local/share/man/man3' instead.

I tried to add 'INSTALLMAN3DIR=/usr/share/man/man3' to the %{_perl} Makefile.PL line, but still no success. I also performed some "queries" to figure out what may be the core of the problem and here is the result:

[zby@localhost ~]$ perl -V:man3dir -V:sitelib -V:vendorlib
man3dir='/usr/share/man/man3';

I saw quite a few IDE's supported on linux but they are all appropriate for C++, GTK, java languages and not C.

General :: Possible To Build An LFS System On Another Computer Through Ssh?

Apr 8, 2011

I am in the beginning stages of building an LFS (http://linuxfromscratch.org) system, but the thing is I don't have any space on my laptop to build it on. However, recently the GPU on my desktop went down and I have been unwilling to take the steps to have it fixed (variety of reasons). My main worry about building an LFS system was about rendering the computer unusable, but since this machine was already broken...I am looking at this as an opportunity.

I had two hard-drives on the desktop, one with linux (ssh enabled) and the other had windows which I subsequently deleted. Since I can't use the desktop directly because of the broken GPU, I am thinking of using ssh to connect and build the rest from there. So far, everything seems to be going according to plan, but I am just beginning the build, so thus far I have only partitioned and built the filesystems.

General :: Build ONLY Python Interpreter?

Oct 26, 2010

I am using ubuntu hardy and python 2.6.5 (built from sources). For a custom python packager I need to rebuild python interpreter (python executable). I am new to linux and don't have much knowledge of gcc and other stuff. Here is the process:1. Copy python.c as myapp.c. myapp.c is in the same directory (python2.6.5) in which I have all the required files. 2. Using the syntax from makefile of python sources, here is my first command to produce myapp.o

Code:
gcc -pthread -c -fno-strict-aliasing -DNDEBUG -g -fwrapv -O3 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -I. -IInclude -I/home/zeno/installed/Python-2.6.5/Include -fPIC -DPy_BUILD_CORE -c myapp.c -o myapp.o
This produce myapp.o but throws a warning:

Code:
myapp.c:24:2: warning: no newline at end of file
Next is to produce the executable or python interpreter:
Code:
gcc -pthread -Xlinker -export-dynamic -o $@ myapp.o -L. -lpython2.6 -lpthread -ldl -lutil -lm -o myapp
This is causing an error:
Code:
/usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/4.2.4/../../../../lib/crt1.o: In function `_start':
(.text+0x18): undefined reference to `main'
