I have configured apache on my Centos 5.2 and it is working well. I want to have a sym link of my docs directory in /root/ in the apache root directory. I used ln -s command to create this sym link. But when I tried to access this I get the following error:

How can I access this directory in apache. i use apache 2.0.63.

CentOS 5 :: Active Directory Integration - Authenticating SSH Users

Apr 22, 2009

First, I'm extremely green with linux. I'm trying to configure my CentOS 5.2 box to authenticate my SSH users with my Active Directory. What would be the best way to go about doing that? I've configured Winbind and joined it the the domain but I'm not able to login locally or SSH with an AD account. I'm not sure where to go from here. Also my users will not be accessing any file shares on this box, SSH only.

General :: Put A '/' In The Directory Path With Apache?

Nov 8, 2010

I am using Apache/2.2.3 on Centos 55. I am having an issue that is pretty strange to me. Whenever I navigate to a url on my webserver from outside my network. I have to put a '/' in the directory path for example When I type in: mydomain.com/directory1 it winds up redirecting to the hostname for my server HOWEVER When I type in mydomain.com/directory1/ it works, since I am adding the '/' at the end of the path. I suspect it is because I do not have my FQDN set up correctly.I did not have this issue when I was using Ubuntu 10.04 , I suspect because Ubuntu automagically set this up for me. Is there a particular way I need to setup my FQDN in centos to get this to work properly? I have tried going into /etc/hosts and adding my FQDN in there, but I do not think I did it properly, is there a particular way the /etc/hosts file needs to be setup?

General :: Apache Active Directory Authentication ?

Sep 22, 2010

I have an old Apache version (1.3.11) and an old Redhat release (2.1.12-20 - Cartman)and need to authenticate a Windows 2003 domain. The authentication to an NT domain already works as expected (see below) but unfortunately I am unable to find the correct LDAP module for V1.3.11 to allow authentication.

From what I have read the LDAP module needs to be compiled with Apache but I am really not sure. Unfortunately I am unable to upgrade to Apache2 when I could presumibly use the authnz_ldap_module but if someone could point me to the correct LDAP module for 1.3.11 it .

Ive installed openldap-1.2.9-6 and openldap-devel-1.2.9-6 but don't particulary want to go down configuring LDAP when hopefully I can simply add the LDAP module to Apache which was not compiled in Apache initially.

Also, do I need to specifiy the AD domain password in the directives or can the Windows lads just create any account I can use.

General :: Apache, Https & Certificates Per Directory?

Nov 23, 2010

I was wondering if it is possible to have different certificates for different directories in a https-directory ?So what I want is that for a specificry a specific TLS-certificate is needed by the http-client to be authorized to the directory.Directory /var/www/html/secure/1 needs a certificate A.Directory /var/www/html/secure/2 need a different certificate B.So I have 1 CA, which signs the other certificates of the specific directory. The http-client gets the certificate A or certificate B (to be authenticated for secure/1 of secure/2)

I have a Name-based virtualhost website in Apache, what i want to do is to disable direct ip access to the site and allow only through web address (www.mysite.com, and not through xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). Or at least show a default page / not found page

I presume this can be acomplished with Mod_Rewrite and .htaccess but i just wanted to know if there is a more global option for this

I have googled this a lot but i can only find posts related to ip host restriction rules, which is not what i want

General :: Apache Website Access

Dec 26, 2010

I have web server apache on linux Centos. I can access it successfully by typing on the address bar http://localhost, 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.150 from the local computer server and the site loads normally with graphic. When I access the site from another computer in the same local network, I don't get the correct website. I see the site like html as text not graphic. Please see below text file output from the browser: Also I can only access the site by typing 192.168.0.150 IP address in the address bar. When I type http://localhost or 127.0.0.1, the site does not come up. Do you see what I did wrong? How can I fix this problem.

General :: Apache Directory Structure With Multiple Hosted Languages

Feb 22, 2011

I will be doing actual development and testing on the same machine as the server. It is a single user machine in the sense that I will be the only one working on the machine. There will be multiple hosted languages, specifically PHP and RoR while possibly expanding later. I'd like the setup to translate well to a production environment. With those 3 things in mind there are a couple of things I've had in the back of mind.Seeing as it's a single user machine I haven't been able to decide whether or not I should be working on things out of my home directory or if they should be located outside of it.I'm feeling that outside of a user directory would be better as it would translate better to a production environment, but I'm also not sure if that will come with any permission annoyances or concerns seeing as I'll be working on the same machine. Hosting multiple languages seems like it may be a bit quirky. With PHP I've found you're generally just dumping the project somewhere in the document root where as something like a Rails app you have the entire project and you only want the public directory in the document root.

General :: Syslog - Access Log Of Apache Not Working

Aug 11, 2011

I am running a syslogd on my ubuntu 10.10 system. I have a apache2 server on the same machine. I have configured my apache2.conf file to send the error logs to the local syslog server.

The config is as under :-
LogLevel notice
ErrorLog syslog:local1

I have also configured the /etc/syslog.conf as under :-
local1.info /var/log/apache2/error_logs

I have created a file in the /var/log/apache2 dir with the ownerships and permissions as under:-
-rwxrwxrwx 1 syslog adm 77 2011-08-11 18:14 /var/log/apache2/error_logs

Next I restarted the sysklogd and apache2 servers with a service command as under:-
sudo service sysklogd restart
sudo service apache2 restart

I thereafter observed the /var/log/apache2/error_logs file and found the entries for apache2 closing down and coming up as under:-
Aug 11 18:14:14 cc apache2[4940]: [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down
Aug 11 18:14:19 cc apache2[5282]: [notice] ModSecurity for Apache/2.5.12 [URL] configured.
Aug 11 18:14:19 cc apache2[5282]: [notice] Original server signature: Apache/2.2.16 (Ubuntu) mod_ssl/2.2.16 OpenSSL/0.9.8o
Aug 11 18:14:20 cc apache2[5285]: [notice] Apache/2.2.16 (Ubuntu) mod_ssl/2.2.16 OpenSSL/0.9.8o Microsoft-IIS/5.0 configured -- resuming normal operations

Now the problem is I donot get any other messages thereafter. So it is hardly useful. How can I increase the logged messages from apache. I tried the facility:
local1.*

Then restarted the sysklogd and apache2, but the contents of the /var/log/error_logs file remained similar. Next, I followed the link. I created the perl script for recording access logs of apache2. I then restarted the apache2 and sysklogd. when I opened my website from a browser, the access log did not work. I think I am getting something wrong with the facility value , in apache2.conf it is ErrorLog syslog:local1 ! but the script is suggesting that it should be local2 in the line 4
openlog('apache','cons','pid','local2');
I therefore changed the script to local1 in above line. But still no access log?

General :: Redirect Apache (mod_rewrite) From Subdomain To Https Directory (vhost)?

Problem is, SSL is already configured for their main domain but not the sub-domain where the CRM application is accessed. Rather than purchasing another SSL certificate for their sub-domain (and probably another IP address),ld it be possible to setup a redirection from the subdomain to a sub-directory in the SSL directory using mod_rewrite. General :: Sendmail Not Authenticating Users?

Jan 24, 2011

Can connect to our mail server using telnet onto port 25 and this works correctly, 'ehlo whatever' shows output as expected.

However using a mail client to connect it gives an authentication error and the following appears in the maillog file;

did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA

what to look for in the config, this works correctly on our development box but not on our production server. Could it be another program is interfering with the connection?

Sendmail is running in standalone mode not through the xinetd daemon.

I am using the PLAIN AUTH method as to try and avoid getting more errors.

General :: Access Internal Network Virtual Hosts In Apache?

Mar 6, 2011

I currently have an Apache Web Server running on Ubuntu 10.4 and I use a DynDNS service to make them accessible to the outside world via a domain and/or subdomain.

My configs currently look like this:

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin <obscured>@<obscured>.com
ServerName <subdomain>.<obscured>.com
ServerAlias <subdomain>

[Code].....

This works fine from access outside of the network and all subdomains resolve to the correct directory.

The problem I am having is with accessing a subdomain over my internal network.

I can access the Web Server using the server's IP address: http://192.168.1.123/ but this always takes me to the same virtual host and I don't know how to distinguish between different virtual hosts (different subdomains).

Ideally I would like to access the same subdomains using http://<subdomain>/ where <subdomain> is the same as the subdomain attached to the external domain name.

General :: Access Secure OSX Directory

Dec 20, 2010

My better half spilled some coffee on her 8month old macbook and it decided not to work anymore. Apple says it will cost around $800 or more to fix, we wont be paying that, Ill be finding a logic board or service somewhere online now that our warranty is shot and going that route.But before I send the macbook off anywhere I need to pull some data off the HDD. I was able to plug the HDD into my Linux box(internally, I dont have an external enclosure). I was able to mount the drive and copy the directories I wanted to the HDD on my linuxbox.

But Im unable to to access the directory from the terminal or from the file browser, I get an access denied message. Because I know the username and password for the macbook is there a way I can use that to gain access to the directories?Google got me this far, but when I googled "access locked directory ubuntu" or any variation of that with the terms linux and osx thrown in there for good measure.

1) Set the Directory options to FollowSymLinks
2) Verified all directory and file permissions are at 755

I have read and tried several ideas in posts listed on the web but to no avail and am at a loss as to what to look for next..
