I downloaded the ISO image of Fedora x86_64 DVD with Utorrent (bittorrent client). When I tested at the prompt of Xp with sha256sum the hash comparison give a different result that should be expected. Because I downloaded under a torrent client.
View 1 RepliesI recently was given a system with an ASUS A8V motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8GHz CPU and one 60 GB SATA disk to which I added a 120GB IDE disk. As the disks are on different (built-in) controllers and are different speeds, I set up /boot, root and swap on the SATA disk, and then one big /home partition on the IDE drive, using the custom partitioning. If I install Fedora 15 32 bit (from DVD) with encryption enabled, I get prompted for the encryption passphrase during bootup as I would expect. If I install Fedora 15 64 bit (from DVD), I get that same prompt and the boot hangs. I can then bring up a serial console where I'll find a prompt for the same passphrase for the IDE drive. I can enter it and the boot will proceed.
I am now running F15 64 without encryption; I would like to get encryption working again but without having to enter the passphrase twice. Plus I figure that this *should* work the same under both the 64 and 32 bit versions. I have had to reinstall this system a few times, using both versions -- the behavior has been consistent.
I am in the process of re-DL-ing the ISO as the checksums didn't match.
Mind you, that was with a shell extension in Win-Lose. Who knows.
Anyway:
I have the ISO (that I had previously) on a USB courtesy of UNetBootIn. All appears well until, quite quickly, I receive an error after the loading process which goes something like:

Error: cannot find disk at [hash-code - looks like 0ace5f etc etc, is about 12 char's in length.]Something very similar (but not same error I think) happened when I tried to do the same with my OpenSolaris or Fedora install. I.e., gets as far as the very beginning of the loader and then: bork.
At least one of them said "will reboot in 120 secs". Saves me the trouble!
I've read that that Linux 2.6.33 kernel supports TRIM, vital to maintaining performance of a flash hard drive). Has anyone tried it? I'm wondering whether the 2.6.33 TRIM support works as intended, keeping a solid state drive from slowing down over time as they will do without TRIM. I've considered adding a SSD to my system, as it's about the only thing I can do to make it faster, short of a complete rebuild. But, I don't want to waste the $ if it's only going to work under Windows 7. Articles about SSDs typically only address performance in Windows 7, unfortunately.

Can anyone get the website below to work correctly with Firefox 3.5 and F11 64bit?[URL]...All I see is the background scrolling slowly and jerkily, none of the buttons at the bottom work. Anyone successfully installed AIR and iPlayer on F11?
I've switched to 32 bit Adobe flash, tried Autoten for AIR and Dangermouse's advice for iPlayer: url.html but it's not working, and trying to install AIR from url results in an endless busy downloading graphic .
I assume my problem is a lack of required packages, though I searched the repositories using YUM extender for the packages listed here: url.html and can't see them either as installed or available.
I want to install IBM Lotus Symphony on my 64 bit system, but yum only finds 32 bit version.

I have Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 / 2 GHz processor. i just upgraded my system with 4 memory sticks i.e. 7GB of RAM due to my requirements. Now the issue that i am facing is that my 32bit fedora system does not showing and suppoting more than 3.XX gigs of RAM when i consult "/proc/meminfo", "free -m" and "top". Now i have done two thing, first i have installed a PAE version of kernel. In result of this my system become two slow with the following error at startup. Error: starting udev: wait timeout. will continue in the background <Failed> Secondly, i installed a 64bit version of Fedora 10 but still it showing not more than 3GB of memory. Also a kernel bug system alerts me of not supporting more than 3gigs of RAM and ask me to send that bug to[URL]
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm a Fedora user, and recently I switched from KDE to Gnome. Since then I'm experiencing a nerve-wracking problem when I use the right-click. Almost every time when I right-click the result is the automatic selection of the option in the context menu which is at the same level as the cursor. This happens more than 50% of the cases. Is that normal in Gnome or am I the only one that experiences this kind of problem?

I think I could tolerate the new gnome shell if I could turn some of my tcl/tk and python gui scripts into things that I can store in the 'favorites' panel. In F14 I could create 'applets' ( with an Icon) that I could put in the top panel ( menu bar). Clicking on the icon would start the (gui based) script. Is there some way I can create a 'clickable' script in F15 and then place the result in the Favourites panel?

I'm running Red Hat Linux 5.4 on HP DL580 server with 16 processors and 64 GB of RAM. I'm connecting to the server remotely through SSH. after entering the password, it takes time to return the command line, if I click ctrl+c during this time, I'll have the command line prompt but not the correct bash prompt (I have to run bash to pass to my correct prompt).I tried to install Apache on the server, ./configure took 4 hours to finish instead of 1 or two minutes, Oracle installation same behavior. Server Disks are mirrored using RAID controller.

That is, can the DDR2 800 be fully utilized on this system? What are pros and cons of such? Does the added benefit outweigh the additional cost of the RAM?
Note: I'm not looking to overclock at all, and this is not going to be used for 3D apps (games or video editing).

I cannot get this one IF statement to work, it seems the comparison operator does not think the resulting number from the $b*$c+$b operation is an integer even though it is a number.
