OpenSUSE Hardware :: Auto-detection Of Printer In 11.1?

Sep 20, 2010

I have two pc`s . one i have installed it with openSUSE 11.1 and another with openSUSE 11.2. When i connect my printer HP Laserjet to 11.2 it get automatically configured, while when i connect the same printer to 11.1 it will not get automatically configured. I will have to use hp-setup tool to setup my printer. When i googled i collected some information that 11.2 version uses udev-configure-printer to automatically setup the printer whereas in 11.1 i did not find it. What changes that i will have to make in 11.1 to setup my printer automatically..?

Hardware :: USB 2.0 Printer Auto-detection Is Failing In Debian Lenny?

Feb 18, 2010

I just upgraded from Debian Etch to Debian Lenny (stable) and now I am having a tough time getting my printer to work. I have a LaserJet connected to the system with a parallel to USB cable. What happens is that when I go to print, nothing happens, CUPS says the printer is processing, and the job just sits there. If I load the ehci_hcd module, then the printer is fine. But it's not as easy as setting it up so that ehci_hcd is autoloaded at boot, because if that happens then when I turn on the printer I have the same problem. I have to actually unload ehci_hcd and then reload it!

General :: NetworkManager 0.8 Auto Configuration Not Working

Jul 11, 2010

I just installed Linux for the first time and I'm having some internet connection issues. I am running Linux Mint 9 on my HP 210 netbook. I am unable to connect to anything using NetworkManager 0.8's automatic configuration. I can't even ping my other computer. Both computers are connected to my cable modem by a switch. The other computer (the one I'm on right now) is running Windows Vista and is working fine.

eth0 is getting an IPv6 address assigned to it, but no IPv4 address. When I do dhclient (I'll include it at the bottom) it says no DHCPOFFERS received and then makes another adapter called eth0:avahi with an IP of 169.254.9.78, which I think I understand from what I read is just a default.

I noticed when I looked at the ipconfig results from my Windows computer that there were a number of things called tunnels on there. My ISP is cox, and I saw some other people with cox had the same setup. One of the tunnels seems to make it so IPv4 and 6 can coexist. Could that be a problem? When I asked Cox why it was set up that way they helpfully referred me to wikipedia.

Here are my ipconfig (from windows), ifconfig, and dhclient results. Let me know if I can provide any other information.

Debian Configuration :: Auto-login And Auto-connect To Networks

Jun 3, 2010

I press On-button, Debian boots, logs in and automatically connects to the Wireless network AND! to my local pc via LAN. It runs an ssh server, so I can ssh into debian over internet and communicate with the local pc (send a magic packet). Here are my problems:

1) I don't how to log in automatically. This and this doesn't work.
2) I need a network tool that can manage multiple connections and has a reconnect feature. With the default network manager I cannot even connect to more than one network simultaneously although I have two network devices of course.

And I guess I can run all that in console mode, right?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Unable To Add USB Printer Via The YaST2 Printer Configuration Setup Tool In 11.3

Aug 26, 2010

I am unable to add my USB printer via the YaST2 Printer Configuration setup tool in openSUSE 11.3. The printer, a Dell Color Laser 1320c, was last used with openSUSE 11.2, and setup was entirely uneventful. No driver is provided by Dell, so I used the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint C525A Linux driver. The problem: To add a print queue in 11.3, a Connection must be specified (parallel, USB, network, etc). However, the configuration wizard fails to show the presence of the USB print device.

[Code]...

This printer was working just eight weeks ago under 11.2, and 11.3 is obviously able to detect its presence and identify it correctly. I feel certain the solution is simple, but I haven't found documentation that provides the answer.

I have tried to add "options snd-hda-intel model=laptop probe_mask=1" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf but that didn't work.

The jack detection box is not available under sound preferences. Alsamixer only shows PCM and Master.

"sudo cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec" shows "Codec: Conexant ID 5066"

Fedora Hardware :: Printer HP P1102w Stopped Working With F15

Jul 17, 2011

I bought my HP P1102w printer specifically because it works in Linux, and it did in Fedora 14 after installing the hplip from HP, not the repository.

After upgrading to F15, the printer was no longer there. /var/log/messages saw the printer, but claimed "io/hpmud/model.c 625: unable to find [hp_laserjet_professional_p1102w] support-type in /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat", which is strange because I found that exact line in that file.

Anyway, I downloaded hplip from [URL] and installed it.

Plugging in the USB cable now looks good:

Code:
Jul 16 17:33:31 goldfinch kernel: [ 7410.596258] usb 1-5.3.2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 9
Jul 16 17:33:31 goldfinch kernel: [ 7410.681937] usb 1-5.3.2: New USB device found, idVendor=03f0, idProduct=032a
Jul 16 17:33:31 goldfinch kernel: [ 7410.681942] usb 1-5.3.2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3

[Code]...

I then tried system-config-printer and it detected the printer on the wireless network. (I really needed to print something, so I had set it up in a Windows XP virtual machine.) So now I have the printer displayed as a network printer, but it still can't print anything. The test page diagnostics spits out the attached debug log. The only thing that stands out to me is the error claiming that my HP printer isn't an HP.

Debian Configuration :: "Windows Printer Via Samba" Option - Add One By Selecting Add->Printer

Aug 11, 2011

I'm using an up-to-date installation of Squeeze with the default Gnome desktop and am trying to print. My knowledge of configuring printers is very limited if it even exists. Since a friend of mine is able to print from her Ubuntu computer, my plan is to copy her. Here's how she does it. She goes under System->Administration->Printing on the desktop. Then a window pops up titled "Printing" that lists various printers that are supposed to exist. It's possible to add one by selecting Add->Printer. It asks for the root password and then a new window pops up titled "New Printer" which has a subwindow called "Select Device" In my case, the "Select Device" window has the following options to choose from:

- AppSocket/HP JetDirect
- Internet Printing Protocol (ipp)
- LPD/LPR Host or Printer

In her case, she has an extra option called "Windows Printer via Samba". This is the option that she uses. The other options don't seem to work for her. I'm assuming that I just need to install some package in order to make this option magically pop up for me. Does anyone know what package this may be? I currently have the packages smbclient, samba-common and samba-common-bin installed..........

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Auto-resume For CUPS Printer?

Feb 22, 2011

Is there a setting to auto-resume stopped printers? I believe to remember that the CUPS configuration file had an option for setting a time interval to retry and restart printers, but I cannot find it any more, nor something similar in the [URL] dialogues. We have an old ink jet connected by USB to a laptop docking station, which is used by my wife and myself. Currently, we always have to go to the CUPS page after docking and resume the printer manually, whenever we "scheduled" a printing job while being undocked. (Yes, I do have a dedicated box that could also act as a convenient print server, allowing us printing over the local wireless network, but after rearranging our living spaces, I am not allowed to place the printer within an USB-cable's length next to that box. it's complicated.

Fedora Installation :: Audio Soundcard Detection Was Skipped During Install?

Oct 27, 2009

I put "%" before and after my username and name which gave the install an error. So I changed the username to one without the special character '%' but left the name with and the setup proceeded with an error and skipped the other three stages (sound testing, time, hardware setup). But everything seems fine with the install except I have not configured the sound card.

From what I have seen the install is pretty much fine other than the lack of functions which I obviously missed during the preference end section of the install. And so I was wondering is there a way to manually detect and use a easily configure a sound card or any way for that matter? The installation guide of Fedora 11 gives advice that was outdated 'system-configure-soundcard"(or something similar) has been removed since F9.

[Code]...

Currently have a few mixers installed which may be conflicting but the extra mixers were a symptom I created due to the no sound problem. The mixers are definitely not the major cause though. My onboard motherboard sound has not been set up as a module to be run is what I assume but any help would be great.

Debian Configuration :: Apt-get Auto-remove Removes Nothing

Aug 10, 2015

The apt-get autoremove command, I use Debian 8 for some time now and I often install a package, test it for some minutes and remove it then. I noticed that in most cases (if not all, I'm not completely sure) all the dependencies that were installed with the package (mostly libraries, of course) stay installed on the system when I remove the package.

And there is no output of apt-get that there are unnecessary pacakges which I can remove with apt-get autoremove. The autoremove command does nothing. Before I changed to Debian, I used Ubuntu and there all the dependencies are removed with apt-get autoremove when I uninstalled a package. My question is now, is this normal? if there are fundamental differences in which packages "autoremove" removes between Debian and Ubuntu?

Debian Configuration :: How To Auto-start GUI As Root

Sep 28, 2015

I have a "time-server". It's sending time to different devices through different ports/protocols. The problem is that it has no operator and that makes some extra difficulties.

Now when i try to start it using terminal Code: Select allsudo ./myprogram works fine and

Code: Select all./myprogram doesn't work.

It is so because without sudo i have no access to ports. As a result If i add my program to System->Preferences->Startup Applications it has the same problem. So i need to start it as root, auto-start, right after auto-login to system but without entering password cause nobody will do it.

Also I need to start ntpd but it also asks password sometimes I've tried googles but it offer a few ways with entering password that isn't suitable for me or writing some scripts/changing system files but with no example I'm afraid to break it all. So is there a way to start Myprogram and NTPD as root with no password entering?

My system is Debian 6.0.10 Squeeze, Kernel 2.6.32-5-686

Fedora Networking :: System-config-printer Bad Printer Entry?

Dec 26, 2009

I have a problem with a bad entry in my system-config-printer on my notebook computer which I think is interfering with my ability to print. I run fedora 10 on several systems in my house. On one desktop, I have a printer hosted which I think I have successfully setup for wireless network sharing (an HP895) using IPP.My problem seems to be a bad entry in my system-config-printer on my notebook computer which seems to stall when I try to print from applications (Firefox for example.) on the notebook. If I open up "Printing", I have 3 printers listed... one of them is for when the printer is attached directly to the notebook, one of them is the working printer description "printer" and the 3d is the bad entry. If I click on the bad entry to try to delete it, I don't have that option, but If I try to look at the "properties" for that entry, system-config-printer stalls (as do other applications when the printing dialog box starts up, and I have to force them to shut down.)

I will attach some screenshots and a copy of my /etc/cups/printers.conf file. How do I get rid of this "bad entry" in the system-config-printers GUI ? It doesn't seem to exist in the printers.conf file.
