As you mentioned , it needs to load fusion-icon on the startup.I did as it was written in this guide,but my desktop freezes

I wanted to have some cool effects in my desktop and have just installed compiz fusion in fedora 11 (kde) but when i launch compiz fusion icon the screen just goes white and nothing appears.

I accidentally deleted my compiz fusion Icon from my top panel and now I can't seem to get it back. Before 10.04 I could just run Applications/System tools/ Compiz fusion icon and it would appear in my panel. This doesn't work any more! when I run "fusion-icon --no-start" in terminal I get

when I boot my pc with fedora 10, it displays the white cube, although i can rotate it but it does not seem to work i cant see any desktops. How can I switch back to the normal desktop view or disable compiz fusion ?

I have a Ubuntu 10.04 fresh installation on my HP laptop. Installation successful and boot OK. But the desktop randomly freeze. During freeze(about 15s each time), all programs are not responsive. Sometimes I can switch program by click, but program seems locked. How can I know which module cause the freeze?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Fedora 15 with the gnome desktop which looks like the android system for mobile phones, I installed wine which put the icons on my desktop but whenever I install a windows app it doesn't put an icon on my desktop for that particular application. How would I add an icon for those window apps so I can lunch them from the desktop, I don't know if you call that the desktop or just the program luncher either way how do I put an icon there so I can run those windows apps from there?

My question is how do I remove the home directory and the trash icon from the desktop? Or better said what is the path to removing the symbolic link, I cannot find the symbolic links in the desktop directory. It is empty, I do not see any symbolic links under /home/test/Desktop?

My problem is that icon is not working in menu! I can find my program in Utilities->Time->ETM Manager and this is what I wanted, but there is no icon for the program.
It starts working if I specify absolute path in etmmanager.desktop file like

About my system - Opensuse 11.1 KDE 4.2
I tried xdg-desktop-icon command. It does install a shortcut. The shortcut works when double clicked. But the shortcut is shown as a standard icon, not the icon defined in the .desktop file. Do I miss something?

I sometimes use the 'trash' and 'empty trash bin' except I cannot find the icon.I assume there is a command for doing that but after googling, there are only a few (OLDER) posts or articles of doing it in older versions of Fedora and they're all Gnome-based. My install is KDE.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've always been interested in Linux and it seems that the new version of Ubuntu (10.04) is pretty good. Now I want to build an Ubuntu desktop to use as my main computer. I've been running it through VMWare Fusion and I haven't had too many problems at all on my iMac (27" i5). Unfortunately, I still need my iMac since the new Steam client is coming out for OS X and I must have some of my Steam games. I guess I don't mind running it in VMWare, but I do miss the excitement of building a new computer with a nice case and fans, and throwing a fresh clean OS on it. Anyone else been in the same dilemna? I feel though I have spent enough money on computers recently. Plus, I don't have room on my desk for another widescreen monitor. I'm not sure where I would put my iMac.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy ubuntu 10.10 desktop environment freezes at right after login, with the window prompt to "unlock keyring" in the foreground. The cursor still can be moved around the screen with the touchpad or mouse. Mouseover of Docky elicits the usual animation but there is no response to clicking it. There is no other response elicited from moving the mouse over or clicking anything else on the screen, including the taskbar and the hot corners i have set up. However the screen still goes dim and to sleep when left unattended and can be reawoken. The netbook also still recognises when it is plugged into a power source.
Background info: I have been dual booting windows 7 starter and ubuntu 10.10 desktop edition for about 2 months now on my ASUS eeepc1005pe netbook with no issues till now. The problem only started when i booted up into windows 7 starter without having shut down ubuntu completely. My netbook was hibernating when i mistakenly chose to boot into win 7 starter at the bootloader. Now this freeze happens every single time i try to boot into ubuntu. But i am still able to boot into win 7 starter without any problems.
The same sequence of events occurs each time i try to start ubuntu. The boot goes fine, then the automatic login occurs, then compiz loads fine then my desktop environment appears with all the same windows and programs open on the desktop as the last time i had managed to use ubuntu except that the keyring login prompt appears in the foreground and then everything freezes as i have described.
How to freeze all icons on the Gnome desktop so that a normal user cannot change?
I have Debian Lenny installed.
I couldn't find rpmfusion keys for fedora 12 on site [URL] . how can I find out keys so that i can cross check softwares?
