I want to trim an wma file, but audacity does not open it. I assume it opens wav files, so I have to do this conversion first..I know ffmpeg, mencoder or lame could do it. But I'm not so sure about those long operations options, could anyone give me a specific command which can convert mp3 to wav ? thanks in advance.I used to know how to do it, but now when I want to redo I have to google for it again, but this time I could not find the perfect command..
I have Ubuntu 9.04 and just installed Sound Converter. I am trying to convert a bunch of .ogg files to mp3 to play on my iPod and it's not working so well. In the Sound Converter options I have is set to convert to high quality mp3. I choose the folder that the files are in and after a moment (slow laptop) Sound Converter populates, I hit 'convert' and it shows that the conversion completes in two seconds. All that it did was create the new folder structure of artist/album but there is nothing in there. Not sure what I am missing. I used Sound Converter before and it worked fine.
I'm trying to use convert, I have installed the imagemagick. I use this line:convert *.jpg test.pdf but I'm only able to convert to pdf 1 single jpg file, not multiple files at once. When there's more than one file, I get the following error: Segmentation fault
I have a lot of .flac files downloaded from several sites. Most of them come with a .cue file, and the .jpg with the cover, etc. It seems it is the intention of the uploader that one rebuilds the original CDDA. However, if I had a stand-alone CD/DVD player with flac I would hardly see the point of converting the flac to cdda. Furthermore, I could even play the flacs with a software player although, in this case, the audio quality would not be so good due to the noise picked up by the signal from the PC digital circuits.
I need to install the hsupa modem driver in my fedora 13. The driver that came with the modem is in deb format (hsupa_i386.deb). I want to convert it into rpm. I used Alien to convert deb to rpm. I followed the instructions given in [URL] when i run the command ./alien.pl -r hsupa_i386.deb, i get the following
[root@anish alien]# ./alien.pl -r hsupa_i836.deb tar: ./usr/sbin/hspa.sh: Cannot change ownership to uid 0: Operation not permitted tar: ./usr/sbin: Cannot change ownership to uid 0, gid 0: Operation not permitted tar: ./usr: Cannot change ownership to uid 0, gid 0: Operation not permitted so on......
I tried the same without being root, then it says alien is not running as root!.
I need this driver to be installed to connect to the internet. Is there any other way to convert it to rpm?, I have attached the deb file here as a zip file (as deb file cannot be attached here!)

Gnome does not see .png files and most all games commercial or free using .png for the icons. Is there a way for me to fix this, is this normal behavior now for gnome? Is there a way for me to convert all these .png icons to svg? This is a last resort as doing them individually would be a nightmare.Ok, you can remove this thread if you like mods.... I apparently am a bit slow... o.OIn gnome's icon selector just browse to the directory where the icon should be. You will not see any icons. Just click on the open button at the bottom. A new screen opens up and it shows the icons that you can select and use.
I have a home made DVD (no encryption etc, but in AUDIO_TS/VIDEO_TS format) that I want to make into a normal avi file. I tried this:
Code: mencoder -dvd-device /media/NameOfDVD/ dvd://1 -o test.avi -ovc lavc -oac lavc and the video looks good, but the audio is verrrrrryyy slloooowwwww and thus clearly not nearly synced. how to modify this command to get the audio extracted properly?
i have recently got 34.8 gb of ubuntu lucid's entire repository . but i want these all packages for fedora via converting them . so, now what should i do get rpm packages from deb packages ?
I am trying to convert a .deb file to .rpm. I am new to Linux in general but from surfing the net found that this program should do that for me. I was unable to install it using yum. I am using Fedora15 currently. Is there another way for me to install the program besides yum?
Note: This how-to assumes you are using LVM on top of the RAID5
Example scenario: VG0 <-> md0 = RAID5(3x500GB) = sda1, sdb1, sdc1 Volume Group VG0 is made up of a single Physical Volume (md0), which is made up of 3x500GB hard drives in
What is the best way using Linux to convert a DVD from NTSC to PAL format? I have a DVD made from an HD recording using a video camera. Made a standard DVD by copying from the Camera to the DVD recorder [ergo NTSC].

I have a script to convert some files, this works fine. My current script is: for i in *.vob; do ffmpeg2theora -v5 -a1 $i -o `basename $i .vob`.ogv; done; The files all have the name Episode-####.vob (replaces #'s with numbers.)
Instead of going from Episode-0001.vob to the end, how do I get it to go from a random file i.e. Episode-0025.vob ?
I am looking for a way to batch convert from DVDs to avi - ideally choosing the resolution of my output device (for use on an Android/iPhone). I really want to do it automatically/via a script from the command line if possible.

I currently have an FC15 KDE, set up as I like it as a media server, and with squeezeboxserver (for Logitechs media system) running fine. But I'd like to set it up as headless - and it presently needs to have a monitor attached. No keyboard or mouse and it will boot to the login screen (so not a BIOS issue). I need to get it to boot without needing a monitor or requiring a graphical log in. I can administer via SSH and Squeezebox server puts up a webpage. FC15 doesn't use inittab any more, so changing run levels is fraught. I don't want to play with targets without a safety line ...
I am currently generating some EPS images for my thesis and run into a 'practical' problem regarding their size.My method to generate them goes through a program which gives JPG files, and then I use "convert" to pass from the JPGs to a EPS:Code:convert File.jpg File.epsThe problem is that resulting EPS files are obscenely large which makes their inclusion in my thesis impractical.I know GIMP offers the same functionality (JPG > EPS) but considering I am working with many files I want to automatize the process (hence why I used "convert").Is there any way I can make "convert" to output smaller EPS files? Alternatively, is there another utility to do what I am doing?
I am running my fedora box as a media server and my xbox (sorry) doesn't see mkv files and I have been looking for a while for a way to convert the mkv files to any format readable any ideas?
