I was adding a line in terminal to try to get skype working and i added a line un-necessary and i need to edit the file. How do I either remove the file or edit it. It is a file in etc/yum.repos.d It says that it is read only, and i can't find how to change permissions.

View 8 Replies View Related- Off a vanilla F11 livecd install, I stuck a 3 at the end of my grub line to boot into runlevel 3. I have been doing this for as long as I can remember (since Fedora 3). However now it seems to break and gives me a GRUB error. I press e to edit, and delete the 3. BUt it still throws and error?!?!?!?! Has this facility (ie sticking a number at the end of the grub line) been changed and why is my grub line now broken even though I've gone back and deleted the 3?
- If I install Fedora 12 beta now, will yum take me all the way into production when it goes live (assuming no killer bugs encountered), I'm guessing thats a yes?
I've been compiling a lot of games recently and most of them requires me to add libX11 to the linker command line. I can't think of nothing but to take a look at the Makefile and add -lX11. It works, but now, I'm compiling from a git repo, and I know the change will removed once I update the my working copy.To make it short, is it possible to add libX11 permanently to the linker command line?

So as you can see the ones that do not match are still present, and the ones that do match just have the extra information from file2.txt added to them.
I thought about using join but that only seems to join the ones that match displays thoes only. i would like all the information in the output file.
I have added an application launcher to my desktop and it works fine. However, I want to be able to feed parameters to the launcher before I launch the application. So, for instance, if the command is normally "/usr/bin/foo something" I want to be able to add the "something" parameter dynamically after clicking the launcher but before the application launches. Is this possible in Fedora?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently moved into my room-mates house and her wireless was not secure as I was able to log on to it unsecured with my Fedora 12 Laptop. After Securing it with WPA all the windows computers had no problem getting back on to the now secure wireless. Using GNOME I went to SYSTEM then PREFERENCES and NETWORK CONNECTIONS and clicked on the wireless tab and configured wireless security tab and configured for WPA WPA2 Personal. No problems. But when I go to the gnome tool bar and click on the network and see our SSID it wants to use WEP 40bit and others methods but has no selection for WPA.

First I tried to install skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586.rpm but it did not work, always ending in "Aborted (core dumped)".Then I found an entry in some forum and tried to use skype-2.1.0.47-fc9.i586. rpm, and it worked! I could make calls, the microphone was recognized and everything worked as it should be.
Until today. For reasons beyond my scope skype stopped working, and after I have looged in with my skype-name I got the above Aborted-message again. Even after the reboot of my Dell Laptop skype refused to work.I even installed all the recommended yum packages I found in this skype forum topic.Can anyone please advise me how to properly install a stable version of skype with Fedora 12? I searched the Fedora forums but did not use any useful entry.
I've seen a couple of threads about recent issues with skype, but nothing like this. Since today my mic is not working in skype (it does work otherwise, for exmaple in sound recorder). I'm using F11 x64. Yesterday I upgraded to the last skype version, and today the mic wasn't working. I downgraded now, thinking that was the problem, but still the same issue, so maybe some update did this (I'm not sure if alsa or pulseaudio got any update yesterday or today).

After several releases fighting with pulseaudio, F11 finally worked almost OBO, after going to system->preferences->advanced sound configuration and setting all the input volumes to the maximum. But now there's no advanced sound configuration tool, and I just can't find anything to make it work. Skype isn't working, nor is gnome-sound-recorder. I do record some static, but nothing more. By the way, I'm on an Acer Timeline 3810T.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI just installed ushare on Fedora 10 (yum install ushare is all it took to do), and followed the guidance then to configure sharing for an Xbox 360, [URL] the code below. Notice the last line...due to stopping process in the terminal via Ctrl+C. It appears to me, based on this ending UPNP sharing, that the first line will need to be run each time want to turn on sharing, right? I thought this would simply configure ushare sharing one time, and possibly intiate some sort of file sharing service on each boot, but this appears not to be the case. If I am right, does anyone know how I can develop a script to run at boot to allow ushare to open sharing and keep it open?

I set up Samba using command line terminal, and my network does not work. I have Samba username and keyring passwords all set, then I go to gui system-config-samba, and my samba user profile password is incorrect. In the past, I have used a 10 letter password, however, every time I boot the computer, I have to go back in and re-enter the password.I wonder if samba is truncating the password because it only accepts an 8 character password? I have deleted the user, and added a new username, and it is still doing it.
If I go into the gui and re-enter the password, usually I can get the network back up with my windows machine. All of the parameters are correct, I use the network to transfer files from my Windows to my Fedora drive all of the time when it works.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Scrolling the Terminal window up/down works fine using the SHIFT+PAGEUP / PAGEDOWN key combination.
Many times I feel like scrolling the window, line by line to investigate the output minutely. I am wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut to scroll the Terminal up/down line by line?
Moreover, I suddenly happened to discover that SHIFT+CTRL+UP Arrow /DOWN Arrow scrolls my terminal window up and down line by line. I am glad to see that working. But it does not work that way on another Linux system (CentOS), not even on console. So I am not sure if this is a real solution. Is this a configurable item on Linux Terminal to enable / disable this keyboard shortcut?
How Does sed or other command edit the 1st line in a file and comments it? Meaning add "#" to the first line in a file for example?
