It's possible that the above module doesn't match the current version of Python, which is:

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 To 10.10 Upgrade - Xorg Broken Packages

My system is otherwise 100% up to date with apt-get dist-upgrade and apt-get upgrade. Fedora :: Clean Up Unused Packages?

Dec 6, 2009

I've been running fedora 12 for a few weeks now and I was wondering how to clean up all of my unused files. I have accumulated quite a bit of software in the form of updates and downloaded packages since starting and I can only assume these are going to continue to build. I have rpmorphan and it lists all of the programs I'm not using but I'm wary of it because it lists WINE as one I haven't used but I use it everyday to play a game. I'm afraid I'll erase something I need, but I'd like to keep my system as clean and slimmed down as possible.

Fedora Networking :: DNS Broken After Upgrade To FC10?

Oct 20, 2009

I recently upgraded my x86_64 system from FC8-FC10 using Pre-Upgrade, and here I got some help fixing all the package conflicts that resulted. Following the first reboot after this massive package update, it appears DNS doesn't work in some apps.

I could ping www.yahoo.com, and nslookup www.yahoo.com resolved the name, but firefox and links couldn't. Typing the ip addr that nslookup gives for www.yahoo.com works fine in both firefox and links. Something's obviously wrong with DNS.

I found a workaround for Firefox which is to browse to about:config and set network.dns.disableipv6 = true. Firefox started resolving names after that.

But then I noticed yum is DNS incapable as well. I don't know how to fix it. Here's what I get:

Code:
[~]$ sudo yum update
Loaded plugins: allowdowngrade, refresh-packagekit
http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/linux/i386/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (-2, 'Name or service not known')>
Trying other mirror.

[Code]....

Does anyone have any additional info on workarounds or fixes for this DNS problem?

The machine in question has a static ip addr, and I have static nameserver addrs in /etc/resolv.conf, corresponding to the static settings provided by my isp.

Fedora :: KDE 4.4 Post Upgrade - Small Or Broken Icons

I would like to ask whether somebody has had the similar experience after KDE 4.4 upgrade.
1. From the attached picture you can see that an icon for xine has a different size. When I change it manually and align the icon, it has previous status after the restart. If I delete that icon and recreate it again, it's smaller than other icons. Icon size for desktop is set up to 32, Desktop Activity.
2. Minimizing/maximizing e.g. Firefox breaks all icons in task bar. I am able to refresh only Firefox/Thunderbird icons.

What can cause these issues? Maybe:
1. my nouveau driver
2. bugs in KDE 4.4.
3. my theme

Fedora Installation :: Post Upgrade Dependency - Yum Broken?

Jan 28, 2011

I recently upgraded to Fedora 14 from F13 using Yum, it worked to my amazement except now yum appears to be broken because of a massive amount of dependency issues. It appears the old F13 packages are still around and yum is unable to get ride of them because their dependency with F14 packages of the same name. I tried yum distro-sync, and I tried yum resolvedep $(package-cleanup --orphans) --skip-broken but to no avail. Package--cleanup--orphans identifies all of the left over F13 packages.

I also can't install or upgrade anything using Yum, does give me a reason except the massive amount of dependency issues with the left over F13 packages. When I use the graphical software update it tells me among other things that Yum and RPM have updates but of course it won't update. I did follow the instructions and used yum update yum before I upgraded to F14, maybe it didn't take? Anyway to resolve this issue other than a clean install?

Fedora :: Removing Unsupported Packages After Upgrade?

Sep 14, 2010

I recently did upgrade from F12 to F13 using preupgrade, and I was following the guide from the Fedora project website [URL]

On the section Removing unsupported packages it shows how to find orphaned packages and sugest you remove them. I tried that, found a bunch of packages that I promptly erased. But then I
came across

ModemManager-0.4-5.git20100720.fc12.x86_64

I thought "well I don't use a Modem" so I tried to yum erase it. I stopped when I saw that it was trying
to also remove the dependencies, a bunch of NetworkManager packages.

My question is, why is ModemManager flagged as an orphan if it has packages depending on it, isn't that wrong?

And also, the recommendation on the guide to remove these packages can be dangerous to people who don't pay attention (imagine someone accidentally removing NetworkManager, no internet).

I will keep the "orphaned" package out of necessity, but something is wrong in this whole deal.

Fedora Installation :: 13 Upgrade: Remove Fc12 Packages?

Also, I still have the Constantine gdm theme, probably as a symptom of these lingering packages. Can I just yum erase these? Do I need to check which have analogs in fc13? Fedora :: Missing Python Packages Or Dependencies With F10->F12 Upgrade Breaks Yum?

Dec 15, 2009

I just finished upgrading the last of 3 machines from F10 to F12 using preupgrade (all i686). Except for a non-critical hplip issue, all went well with the first two machines upgraded 1 week and 3 days ago, but some python F10->F12 updates were missing on the third machine that I upgraded yesterday, leaving yum inoperable. Thanks to good yum error messages, I was able to resolve the problem (I think), but I thought I should post to check if mine is a unique or common problem, to enquire if it may have resulted from some of the python packages being in "update transit" in the repositories, and/or whether something like this can be avoided in future? Details follow:

Upgrade appeared to go well except for some dejavu font dependency issues (experienced on all three machines) and libcrypto.so.7 missing for eet-1.2.2-4... (third machine). However, there was a boot message that some python module (can't remember which) was not present for some nvidia requirement, although video driver worked fine. When testing yum: First it complained that libpython2.6.so.1.0 was not present. Since that module conflicted (identified by rpm) with various python 2.5.*f10 packages that that were still on board, I copied libpython2.6.so.1.0 (from a current f12 rpm) into /usr/lib manually. Second, yum complained that urlgrabber was not available, so rpm with the latest python-urlgrabber for f12 solved that.

Third, yum complained that pycurl was not available, so rpm with the latest python-pycurl solved that. Yum now works! and boot message is gone! I ran "yum install python-libs" to make sure that any necessary dependencies were met following my manual installation of libpython2.6.so.1.0, which resulted in a bunch of python dependencies being upgraded as a result.
