Having VLC crash upon opening? I would think that they would have it fixed by now & just trying to follow up. I tried to do a bug report but couldn't get it to go for whatever reason (at least I don't THINK it took).
Title says it all.Ubuntu 9.10 on HP Pavilion dv4 laptop crashes all the time absolutely for no reason.
Everything is working very fine and suddenly bang ubuntu drops to black screen and cursor blinking on top right corner requiring a reboot to get it back to normal and again happens the same at any random time.
on my Netbook i run Opensuse 11.4, it works fine until a couple Days. Since there more and more Apps wont start anymore. For example Dolphin, Yast, Ocular and so on... so better say´d, only Thunderbird and Firefox still running. I dont get any Error Messages or something like this, when i start a Application there just pop´s the Program Bar in the Start Menu and then after that (normally the Window of the Program would be shown) it just disappears. Dumb on that is, that i even cant backup my Data, because Dolphin dont show up anymore.
My tomboy always ran very fluently until one day I tried the tomboy-image patch. When I tried to resize a big image in my note, tomboy crashed. This was the first time I experienced tomboy crashed. I felt bothered. As a result, I removed the tomboy-image. Later on, sometimes I clicked on a link to another note or when I clicked on a note and then tomboy crashed. It is not very often but bothered me a lot. Especially after I kill the process, I can't reopen it right away. I have to wait a while. I don't know if it relates to the installation of tomboy-image or not? Since I already remove it, how can it still in effect? Or tomboy normally acts not that fluent when the amount of notes become larger? (I have 6xx notes so far).
i have Starcraft 2 with wine, now when i first tried to play it, i upped the graphics, then it crashed. Now when i try to open it, it just crashes instantly - any words of advice on how i can get my starcraft 2 running?
I got a phenom II x4 3.2ghz gigabyte gtx 460 1gb and 2 gigs of ddr3 ram
Ive been searching half the internet for a solution for a strange problem im having with a server (CentOS 5.2 Final). For no apparent reason, the server will just be powered off.I've looked in the dmesg log and /var/log/messages file, but that doesnt show anything, except the "syslogd 1.4.1: restart." message after booting it up again, and hours in advance of the crash a "suhosin" alert message.
I experience X crashes on a frequent level. First it happened with the current stable nvidia 180 driver, and the nonfree flash player (....., vimeo, etc). I replaced the stable nvidia driver with the 180-dev driver which fixed the flash problem. However it still happens that the X chashes without any reason or pattern. One time it crashed the moment I wanted to save a PDF file to my HDD downloading it with Firefox, another time it crashed while idling. I use an Alienware M15x with a nvidia 260M. Compiz is installed and active. Which other data or logs do you need?
Software center, update manager, Synaptic package manager crashes for no reason. I have not done any recent changes or downloads. I'm running a fresh install of ubuntu 11.04
My F14 shuts down for no reason on my laptop Acer Aspire 5738ZG. I can't give any info when exactly this issue occurs. It could happen during any type of activity from watching a movie to reading a document. There is also no specific time when it happens. It can do it 5 times in 30 minutes or once every few days.
I am using Fedora 11 + kde 4.3.1 + compiz. for several times now my session ended unexpected, I can't reproduce that behavior and so I am looking for a log or someplace to look after such logout to find out what caused or triggered it.
I saw another thread about unexpected logout while browsing, its not the same although it happens to me so far while using firefox / mplayer / Kontact (kmail) .
I'm running fedora 11 2.6.30.8-64.fc11.i686.PAE. System hangs within 10-12 hours of running almost every day. It happens when nobody at the pc. There is nothing interesting in the log files. Kindly let me know where and what I have to check in this case for solving it.
I am using redhat fedora on a VM player. I set up a static IP address as well as a auto DHCP address. For some reason I cannot connect to either one or even activate or deactivate either one. My VM player is set up to bridge with my local machine.
I'm using Fedora 14, 64-bit. My wi-fi adapter is Intel 5100 AGN on a Lenovo laptop. The wi-fi router is Zyxel. From time to time, I'm getting a black message, that a kernel component has crashed (or something similar). Here are the error details:
In most cases, after that, I'm loosing the internet connection. I can't open any website, can't ping the router (which is my default gateway) and now it happened even without any error, which really pissed me off. Logging out and back in doesn't help, I need to make a full reboot to get back my internet connection.
Under Windows 7 everything is working fine and I'm not having any trouble with the internet connectivity! I had Fedora 11 32-bit before and it was also working normally!
I have a server running Fedora 8 which I installed via the DVD that came with the book I am using as a learning aid. Anyway, I downloaded (via bit torrent) the Fedora 10 DVD and everything reported success, so I burned the DVD and booted the machine on which I want to install 10 (not my server).
Things were moving along fine until it started doing the actual install (partitioning etc. was complete). I had selected all three repositories. Somewhere in the middle of doing the install an error window opened with the following message "The Automake16-1.6.3-14.noarch.rpm.cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt package or corrupt media. verify your installation source. If you exit your system will be left in an inconsistent state that will likely require reinstallation."
It then gave me the choices of rebooting or ejecting. I took reboot which left me in text mode with a limited version of GRUB. So Thinking it might be a problem with the added repos I tried again this time taking just the default repo. Then I got the same error but having a problem with authconfig-gtk-5.4.4-1.fc10.i386.rpm.I again took the reboot option it restarted from the DVD to take me to the regualr start of installation.
So that leaves me with a nicely partitioned system but I don't know how much as been installed or what do I do to get it to install. I didn't have the startup test the disk per the online instructions. So after all this I did and errors were found. I had errors on two different disks, so now I'm going to try using CDs instead.
I have just had a wee problem with the XFCE 4 Desktop on my Acer Aspire One with the Fedora 10 OS. Netbook worked OK this AM before work; shut down as usual. On returning from work, the Netbook seemed to boot as normal. But I only had one workspace instead of two (my usual), and when I tried to start Firefox, it was 2/3rds it's normal size and none of the usual '_ [] X' boxes in the the upper right hand corner! I tried booting into an earlier kernel version, but still the same. Had I accidentally altered the settings by any chance? Opened 'Fedora','Settings Manager', and clicked on 'Window manager'. But it just opened an error box, saying 'you do not appear to have a Window Manager'! Went (through google) to the XFCE webpage. The windows manager is called 'xfwm4'. Opened a terminal and tried 'top' - no xfwm4 process seemed to be running. So I quit out of 'top', typed 'xfwm4' and hit enter.
I've had Fedora 15 installed on this machine for about three weeks. Today I installed Q-cad for the first time and open it to make sure it would launch. I left the machine for about an hour and when I opened the desktop, I was notified of 879 updates. A quick glance and the updates applied to everything from grub to gimp and lots in between. is it normal to have so many updates dumped to me all at once?
I've installed the x86_64 edition of fedora 15 using the kde desktop. There's a peculiar problem that iḿ now facing. My keyboard for some reason types french characters(I am not sure if its french or some other european language though, it looked french to me). I want this to stop, let me illustrate the problem by typing some text.
I have just installed (after a series of crashes during the install) Fedora 15. I also have Ubuntu Natty installed and use it primarily but I wanted to reach out and try new distros.I've wanted to try Fedora and finally got enough nerve to try. Installing it crashed for no apparent reason several times.ehow it installed and booted right to Fedora. However, when finally figuring out how to run the updates, I began to have the same problem.(Someone elsewhere suggested trying to update through command line--which I did finally though I had a few crashes doing this).
Now I am logging in and then it will just inadvertently crash. I could be in firefox, or using terminal, etc. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to why this is happening and I feel frustrated. I really want to test out Fedora (it looks so nice!) but can't manage to stay afloat more than a few minutes. I might also mention that this does not happen in Ubuntu at all so I can't account for the issues. I have much to learn but I feel a bit intimidated by Fedora because it's so new to me.
I have a server installed with a Fedora 8 and the other client PC were installed with Windows XP. Recently, I copied an educational courseware (this courseware is developed specially for Windows based PC) into the Linux-based server. I found that the .EXE (application file) :were unable to be opened in all of the clients and also the server. How can I solve this problem?
Is there any limitation on the number of file descriptors that can be opened. If yes how to find the maximum number of file descriptors that can be opened at a time.
it's the installation media or the ISO is broken because i have reburned / redownloaded the fedora14 multiple times with the same result. I even tried burning the disc on a different computer just to make sure the burner is still working. This is the error i am getting when the "Starting installation Process" dialog displayed.
"The file upstart-sysvint.0.65.9.fc14.i686.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt package or corrupt media. Please verify your installation source" I remember fedora 13 and below i have to use nousb command or something similar to get fedora installed properly but not for fedora 14. It just pops up with the message above.
I was looking for a plugin to open pdf files in a new tab, acroread does but doesent remember the last view of the last file opened. So, is there a way to open pdf files through evince or okular within FF?
I was transferring data from one computer to my laptop and crash error came up on my laptop...
Error 1:
Nautilus-2.32.0-1.fc14 Reason: Process/usr/bin/nautilus was killed by signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
Error 2:
Openoffice.Org-Brand Crash
Reason: Process/usr/lib/openoffice.org3/program/soffice.bin was killed by signal (SIGABRT)
What could be the problem? Is it serious issue? I have been having security issues with Windows and are those issues begun once again? I have been under targeted attack since 2005.
I've been using Fedora 12 for about a month, and i'm very happy with it. Even tough, there's only one thing that worries me, and is giving me problems at the same time. I'm getting an error from: syslog@localhost that says: kernel:Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason b1 on CPU 0 kernel: Dazed and confused, but trying to continue. Kernel: seems to be a problem, likely on the PCI Bus
I'm not able to reproduce the problem every time i want, but, sometimes happens when i activate the snow effect combined with the cube effect, using kwin. My computer and OS specifications are: Pentium IV HT(disabled) Nvidia Geforce 8400gs 2 Gb Ram DDR2 (1xGB, 2x512) Hard Drives: 2x80GB Using Fedora 12, KDE 4.4.1, with Nvidia privative drivers, nouveau disabled
I use deluge and it worked for a while then randomly I got this error message when trying to download a .torrent file:"/tmp/Manchester_Orchestra___I_m_Like_A_Virgin_Losing_A_ ___-1.torrent could not be opened, because an unknown error occurred.Try saving to disk first and then opening the file."
I installed openoffice 3.0 from openoffice site (www.openoffice.org) in my Fedora Core 6 OS computer. However, while doing that I might have made some mistakes. I removed openoffice 2.4 and 2.0 by using openoffice uninstall. In fact, couple of occasions, I have uninstalled and again fresh installed openoffice 3.0 when I noticed that moment I pressed any key, the program crashes. I have by mistaken the script ooffice, thinking that it would automatically install a new one. But there is no ooffice. I have to call soffice for that.
I'm using BSNL(India) EVDO service. I got ZTE dialer for Fedora and it works fine. But it has started causing error which was not seen when I installed system freshly. It's just been a week and whenever I disconnect ppp interface, xmessage window open and I see error message.
Every since updating to kde 4.3, I have been experiencing frequent X crashes (1-2 times a day) whenever compositing is turned on (nvidia card). I was hoping that kde 4.3.1 would fix the issue for me, but no luck. So, I'd like to figure out what the nature of the problem is so that I can report it to the appropriate (ahem) authorities, but am not exactly sure how to dig up any useful information. The Xorg log didn't *seem* to have anything particularly informative to say about it (just a few lines about nvidia_drv.so).
