Quote: Security expert Georgi Guninski has pointed out a security issue in the 1.0 branch of OpenSSL that potentially allows SSL servers to compromise clients. Apparently the hole can be exploited simply by sending a specially crafted certificate to the client, causing deallocated memory to be accessed in the ssl3_get_key_exchange function (in ssls3_clnt.c). While this usually only causes an application to crash, it can potentially also be exploited to execute injected code.

a server at work has been accessed through the desktop environment as root. I know this is a risk and since I have never done it before I was wondering if there are any files created by the desktop that could compromise the system and how could I clean it up.

I'm new to send mail. I have a server with a public address and domain name. But I only want to implement a small sendmail network on our 20-user LAN. Can I turn my public server into a sendmail server? Are there any simple step-by-step instructions for this?

i've set a server Fedora 11 using Vsftpd + database berkley + ssl 'certificate) he works perfectly. So i wanted to set a new one on Fedora 14, there is the problem..On my fedora 14, i tryed to use the configuration file that i've made on the F11 but withtout success. It seems that when i activate the SSL option on the server it does not want to start anymore... and i have no errors messages. I notice that when i desactivate the SSL "ssl_enable=NO" my server on F14 can start normaly.

I am trying to edit my http configuration (menu System -> Administration -> Server Settings -> HTTP) and it seems to be impossible. My Server Name comes up empty and I want to change the default Webmaster email address root@localhost to something else, but I can't change anything. I enter mu new server name and e-mail address, but when I click on the OK button I get a popup box which asks me if I want to save and exit. I click on the Yes button, and the box disappears. HTTP Server configuration does not exit and my changes are not saved.

I'm in charge of setting up svn on a Fedora Core 9 server running cpanel for a company website. The company currently has 4 developers working on the site which isn't live yet. The server currently has one user and the site is located in ~/public_html
My question is what is the best way to set up subversion for all the developers? Should I create the svn directory in ~/ or should I create a new user and put it in their ~/public_html and create a virtual host to it so I can have www.dev.site.com point to the svn version of the site? And then create a group for all the users so everyone can access it?

I just recently made a server using Fedora 10 and i was wondering if it is possible to set it up so that i don't need a GPU for fedora to boot properly. Since the GPU isn't being used i was hoping to save on a little bit more electricity.

I am looking into creating a web caching server for myself using fedora 10. I believe I need to use squid for this but it seems to have a lot of features. Basically, all I want for now is to be able to cache web pages that I and my network users use the most, increasing access time and lowering the load on my internet connection. Can squid do this and can someone point in the right direction on an article on how to configure such a thing?

was originally looking to setup some kind of NAS in my house due to the fact that me and my wife both access the same music libraby, photo library etc. and was looking at one of the IcyBox enclosures.I realised that whilst this was a quick and possibly easy way to set something up, it wasn't in keeping with the true geek within so decided to look into setting up a full RAID5 file server. This would then allow me to install and setup various other services such as Web and FTP server, Mail server and DNS server should I ever want to.
I have an old machine (Duron 1GHz I think) with 1GB ram but the only problem is that is doesn't have an on board SATA controller so I was wondering what PCI SATA controller cards work with Fedora? Doesn't need to have RAID capabilities since i'll be using Software RAID anyway, just need a nice cheap Fedora friendly controller card that'll do the job.

What is a good Ftp server application (preferably with a GUI interface)? I would like something in which you may set a login password. Also, how would you login to an FTP server which is through a router, as the computer IP address will be assigned now by the router, right? Take Linksys router for example, don't they all assign IP addresses to network computers based on the router IP Address, 192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.200, etc?Since post above, I have installed vsftpd. I cannot figure out, as stated above, how to find the IP address to log into from offsite.

I will be getting an old and decrepit laptop (the PS2 channel went out). I have decided that I would like to set it up to be an email and minor data server. The only problem exists that I have never setup a server, yet alone a linux server before.
I want the server to allow user authenticated access to a certain folder on the machine where other clients can go and copy and paste files for the data server portions and I want it to download emails from multiple domains (Gmail, a Microsoft Exchange Server, and from a private domain) and then allow other clients to log in and download those messages (I would like to keep each domain's emails separate so the client has to specify which domain's emails to download).

I am working on fedora 10 and configured dns on my college lan which already has it's dns at 192.168.5.20 .So i configured my private dns server at 192.168.101.91 which is my ip too.And the domain name is the host name of my system for example server.onkie.com.MY dns port 53 is shown when i do nmap localhost but but doesnt show when i do nmap 192.168.101.91 .Also when tested my server on other computers on my lan with there primary dns as 192.168.5.20 and secondary as 192.168.101.91 they cant access my site at my system with the name [URL].. . nmap localhost
Starting Nmap 5.00 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2009-09-22 21:24 IST
Interesting ports on onkar (127.0.0.1):
Not shown: 993 closed ports
PORT STATE SERVICE
22/tcp open ssh
53/tcp open domain ----the dns is running
[Code]...
I already disabled my selinux and iptables ..but then also it's not accessible in Lan .

I have installed Fedora 11 and I have set it up as a web server with Apache. I have a domain name from GoDaddy that I own and I have set it to my web server. I am able to type the address into a browser on a computer outside of my network and it will pull up the web pages on the server. the problem that I am having is that after I type the URL, it gets replaced with the IP address. [URL] I know that I need a nameserver to resolve the IP address but I can not figure out how to do it. I have tried to use Bind but I can never seem to get it to work.

Code:
[root@localhost Download]# dir
dhcp-3.1.3 dhcp-3.1.3.tar.gz
