View 3 RepliesI setup openldap and samba on 9.10. The ubuntu desktop client gets authenticated successfully with the server. But when I do a passwd on the client, only the ldap passwd is getting changed but not in the samba and the unix user account.
My smb.conf
Code:
passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://192.168.3.100
ldap suffix = dc=example,dc=local
ldap user suffix = ou=People
ldap group suffix = ou=Groups
[code].....
But only the ldap password is getting changed and not in the samba and unix user account.
I tried
unix password sync = yes
but same result.
I am running ubuntu 10.04 64 bit with Centos Directory Server centralizedauthentication tool. I can log in just fine with my ubuntu client, however when go to my Directory Server and tell it to require a password change on reset for any of my users, the ubuntu client doesn't require the user to reset their password. the reason I need this to work is so I can reset a users password from the Directory server and then have it use what I set it to for their next login attempt but then require them to set their own password. After days of searching I have only found out that it can be done by setting the option in Directory Server but Ubuntu 10.04 seems to just ignore the option. I am using the libnss-ldapd and libpam-ldapd packages on the Ubuntu client because the libnss-ldap and libpam-ldap didn't work at all, what am I missing?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have FC14 running NIS master and the Solaris 10 (192.168.0.10) client is able to use authenticate. However, when I try to change the passwd (via yppasswd) on the Solaris host it reports "Permission denied".
On the FC14 host, the syslogs show that the passwd is invalid:
Code:
Dec 26 22:09:49 linux rpc.yppasswdd[2031]: update test (uid=502) from host 192.168.0.10 rejected
Dec 26 22:09:49 linux rpc.yppasswdd[2031]: Invalid password.
The Solaris host has been reconfigured to generate md5 passwds and the linux host the same (via authconfig). Indeed when I set a local user's passwd on the Solaris host, the passwd (the shadow entry) looks like a MD5 passwd (starts: $1). I don't know if this is related to my NIS problem, but when I generate the SAME passwd on linux, the shadow entry is different.
After today's sudo upgrade on Karmic amd64, I am able to login only as root on my xubuntu system. Tried to change password on my user account but the result is the same.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI suppose that my main Linux user account password serves as my SSH password as well. Is there a way I can modify this? As it turns out, I'd like to have a REALLY secure SSH password for obvious reasons, but a less secure local password, as it makes typing in passwords a heck of a lot easier on a machine. Is there a way I can change my account password in SSH without changing my Linux user password?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have configured httpd web server to allow each of the system users to have their own web page (using UserDir directive). At the same time I have configured ftp server to allow the users to upload their html files to the web server. With above set up my users need not have any knowledge of linux; they can work from any windows PC on the network. There is no problem in the above. However, now I need to allow my users to change their passwords. The point here to note is that the users should be able to do this even from windows PC on the network. One of the way is to configure a telnet server (or sshd). But I find that the windows PC does not have telnet client. The other idea is that I should put a php script on the server which would take user name and password from the web page and then change the password. I don't know how can the system account password be changed through script - I will have to check this out.

Yesterday Ubuntu One stopped syncing properly: all files and folders were listed on the web site grayed out and tagged with "uploading", while there was "0 bytes Used". I could still upload files manually to the website fairly quickly, so it probably wasn't purely server overload. Anyway, a number of things happened after that:uninstalled the Ubuntu One client packages and reinstalled them in Account settings on the website, I removed my computer, hoping to make a fresh start the Ubuntu online account login system for some reason forced me to change my password (presumably it wasn't strong enough)
After all that, I can still login to the website (with the new password), but the computer can't login. When I type u1sdtool -s in terminal, the result is
Code:
When I open Ubuntu One Preferences from the Me menu, it completely freezes at the Account tab; I can't click anything or even close it (have to kill it in terminal).
I suppose the login failure has to do with the old password whcih was saved in the keyring. The removed computer from the account probably complicates the issue.
I have configured LDAP server on RHEL 5.2 Linux.
Client is unable to change its password from client linux box.
I think there is PAM configuration problem in /etc/pam.d/system-auth file.
What will be the exact entries in this file.
I have configured LDAP Server on RHEL 5.2 successfully and client can login to the server. But I do no how a client can change its LDAP password on his client machine.

I'm rather new to Fedora server, but I'm attempting to run a music FTP server, where anonymous users can submit songs into one particular folder (so i can personally tag them), while other user accounts have full read-write. Here we go: I 2 directories, /music and /untagged
I want anonymous users to be able to read both directories, but only be able to upload to /untagged, and not be able to delete anything. I want users that I select to have full read-write-create-delete privileges. how would I go about this with vsftpd?
Vsftpd virtual users, when a user connects via of ftp they can view all files in the file system. Have a virtual web server and vsftpd working, each user's username is their domain name. FTP works, but not the way I wish for it to work. I only wish for a user to be able to view the files under their username, not the entire Fedora file system and limit changes to files ONLY under their domain name.

I have a slow internet connection and its not possible for me to download large files.
2. I installed some packages via yum. My friend also has fedora 14 but unfortunately he doesnt have a internet connection to download the files via yum and install them. Are the .rpm files downloaded via yum stored in some specific folder, so that I can transfer those files via a flash drive to his computer and install them directly there?

I'd like to configure vsftpd server in a way to allow remote user (local) too see and edit configuration files in their ftp directory starting from dot (like .htaccess, for example). With default configuration + "local_allowed = yes" it does not appear to be possible:user can successfully upload .file but could neither see if it is in directory nor download it.
