Fedora :: Noisy Network Manager - Tell To Not Log So Many Messages To The System Log?

Mar 23, 2010

Is there anyway to tell NetworkManager to not log so many messages to the system log? There appears to be a bazillion <info> messages in the log file (/var/log/messages). It makes it hard to find any potential problem areas...

Fedora :: Remove Boot Messages In System Tray?

May 28, 2010

Every time I log in, I get a "Boot Messages" indicator in my notification area. I click it and it shows me what happened during boot (uneventful, no error messages). I would like to remove this icon, it's very annoying. I can right click it and click quit but I don't like doing this every time I log in.

Is there an easy way to stop it from starting up (I couldn't find it in Startup Applications)?

Networking :: Connection Manager System In Network

Sep 18, 2010

I just wanted to know what's your opinion on my problem.I have few linux servers that can be located on any place in the world, only port 22 is open. At my office I need connection to every server, but every server must be isolated from every server. So by now I worked only with ssh authorization by username and password. What seems to be preferable ?.

1 Going on working with ssh with authorization.
2 working with ssh but with adding keys
3 start to work with vpn

So if I am keeping use ssh with authorization I need something that will change password every month only for security working with ssh key, it seems like key depends on gateway where key created so if change gateway I lost connection using vpn sounds good but in this case I mush isolate servers from each other. The best solution I think is combination of any two methods

Fedora Servers :: Setting Up Network In The Right Way + Wake On Unicast Messages?

Jul 11, 2010

I have a Fedora server at home. I don't want it to be running all the time to reduce the power usage and be more green It only works , whet it is really needed. So when it is not in use (no ssh or http connections have been active for some time), a custom python script suspends it. I have set it to wake up on unicast messages, so when somebody connects to it, the server wakes up.In Fedora 12 everything worked fine: when the server was sleeping and you connected to it using ssh or a web browser, the client waited for couple of seconds until the server was up and then connected (actually it worked even when server was turned off: the command "ssh [user]@[server]" just waited until server was booted up and then connected.)

Now I installed Fedora 13 on the server. When I try to connect to the server when it's sleeping, the client waits for some time (and server wakes up), then the connection just times out. When I try to connect again, it works. When server is up and running, I can connect to it. So when it is sleeping I have to connect twice: first to wake it up and then connect again to log in.Do you have any ideas what is causing this problem, as it is really annoying for me and I don't want to have it running all the day. Also, I have not set up the network in the best way, I think. To start the network at boot, i have put the command

Code:

ifup eth0
to /etc/rc.local.

To start the network when resurming from suspend, I have creted a script with the same command in /usr/lib64/pm-utils/sleep.d. It works, but it does not seam to be the *right* way to do this. Maybe this is also causing the first problem. So how have you managed to get a working network connection on your Fedora 13 headless server?

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager - System Connection Is Disabled

Jan 13, 2011

I've tried to configure :

- a wired network
- a wireless network
- a mobile broadband network as both "system connection" and "automatic connection".

I need to have a laptop that will try to connect as sson as I plug the ethernet cable in or as soon as it senses a certain SSID or as soon as there's a mobile broadband device plugged into a USB port. Non-system connections are working but I am not willing the actual user (non-admin) to read the WPA2 key or the SIM PIN. But the check box for the system connection is disabled. And running "sudo kcmshell4 --icon networkmanager kcm_networkmanagement kcm_networkmanagement_tray" doesn't result in a system connection.
