I installed TeXLive on Linux (Fedora 14) but I don't know how to add additional LaTeX packages that are available from CTAN (Comprehensive TeX Archive Network) easily. It seems TeXLive has its own package manager called "tlmgr" but I could not activate it or find it through "yum search". I am creating a latex document (in English) where I want to write some Sanskrit words in Devanagari script. In my debian-5.0.4 OS where I have texlive-latex3 I did it by installing a package called latex-sanskrit. Is there any such package for opensuse-11.2 and which repository contains it? It will be preferable if it can be installed by yast2.

I'm trying to install a .sty, .cls, and a .bst (bibtex) file for latex. I'm currently using texlive in Ubuntu 10.10. I have the general idea of where to install these but whenever I try to compile the .tex I get an error that says permission is denied to the .cls file, so I'm not sure what's going on.
I've ran the mktexlsr and everything else, but I still get this problem. If I run sudo pdflatex <filename> I wind up compiling a pdf document that I can't access. Not sure if I have to add permissions to the .sty and .cls files after they've been copied.
Additionally, the .sty and .cls files I'm using aren't in the official texlive distribution so I would definitely need to install them myself.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a semi-noob on this and I have problems getting my emacs recognizing .tex as latex and even running latex-mode. Usually when you run latex-mode (M-x : latex-mode) emacs should switch to latex-mode, but nothing happens in my case. The menu bar still show the TeX options, highlighting remains the same etc.
I am running emacs 23.1.1 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.10.4), this is on a university system so I don't know much about it.

Missing Dependency: libpoppler.so.4()(64bit) is needed by package texlive-2007-46.fc11.x86_64 (updates)
And strangely now (perhaps for a combination of reasons) I cannot use my auctex. I would like to finish this update anyway, and tried to find libpoppler.so.4 separately, which I haven't yet been able to locate. Poppler itself is installed and updated, and I do see libpoppler.so.5 in my system. So where would I find libpoppler.so.4 on its own? Or should I perhaps downgrade poppler?
Is there anyone whose residence is in Hong Kong? I am trying to installing TeXLive 2010 through web-installation, and the source is in [URL] but the download speed is too low, sometime it even quit installation. Can I use some command to force the installing program to use another source?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI wanted to try the JWM window manager, which is not in the Fedora repository. The author's site gives no instructions, save for users of Irix (!), so after compiling and installing I needed to find how to have it on offer at log-in. I do not want to just have jwm launched after startx runs; I want the (Gnome) log-in where I can choose a desktop or window manager for the session.
I found that Icewm and Gnome have desktop-configuration files in /usr/share/xsessions, so I created one there for JWM using the other two as a model. What I can't find is where Gnome's session manager keeps the list of available sessions. I've searched the contents of /etc/X11/xinit/ and the configuration files in my home directory for a file containing "icewm" (which I do have available), and drawn a blank.
I recently upgraded to 9.04 and Update Manager stopped working. If I start Update Manager it will check for updates and display them but will not install the updates. I am prompted for a password but the updates are never downloaded and I get no error messages.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI d/l the Sunflower File Manager tgz file to install into Ubuntu. I already have the Build-Essential package installed. When I go to the directory I extracted the Sunflower's tgz files to and type in a shell "./configure" I get an error: "bash: ./configure: No such file or directory" Well, yes... looking into the Sunflower directory there is no such file or subfolder there. Now I admit I'm not an Ubuntu expert but IIRC I've done a few tgz installs like this and they went fine.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just moved to Fedora and absolutely love it so far. I have two questions... 1st, are there any other software managers available besides the default one? I could not find them. 2nd, I am having the worst time installing flash. It seems like it is not installed by default. The first time I installed fedora was about a week ago and afterwards I installed flash and it worked. Later on I erased everything from my computer and reinstalled fedora although now I cannot add flash to save my life. I've tried a bunch of different links with directions on how to do it but I cannot figure it out this time.

Since I really need network-manager-openvpn, I decided to finally try and ask.
This is a known bug I believe, with no fix if I understand well. My question is: is there a way to go around it (instead of fixing it)

I started using ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my Dell Studio 15 laptop. Installing ubuntu has never been this easy! I used CD which used WUBIInstaller to install Ubuntu. Then I restarted my machine and selected Ubuntu from 'OS selection screen'.
I connected to my wireless broadband in few minutes and found a pop-up of 'update manager' showing 305 new updates to be download and to be installed. I installed all updates worth 370 MB and in middle got an pop-up of GRUB telling me to configure GRUB on some path. I just selected that path and clicked on FORWARD button.Then installation of updates got over and it asked me to restart machine. I restarted machine but on OS selection screen,when i selected Ubuntu it didn't boot Ubuntu but instead machine restarted again. I'm not able to boot into Ubuntu.
I used the upgrade manager to update to Ubuntu 10.10. It hung on installing grub. After trying the repairs, the system says it can't find grub_xputs and gives the grub rescue> prompt.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI saved wubi.exe to c: and when running wubi, I pointed it to my usb hard drive for installation of ubuntu. When I rebooted my PC, I got a message that there was no boot manager. Even cntl-alt-delete did not work, so I unplugged the pwr cord and battery and reconnected them. I interrupted the boot to get to BIOS and found that Ubuntu was first in the boot chain. Apparently, when it is, no boot manager is found. So I removed the usb from the pc and was able to boot into W7.

Now I have the Thunar file manager opening up by default even when logged into Gnome (for example when using Alt-F2 and typing in a folder name, or when plugging in an iPod.) I've searched around for days but can't find any place to set a default file manager. The Default Applications dialogue doesn't include file manager, only web browser, video etc.)
