Fedora Networking :: Wireless Access - Connection Lost Within 3 Minutes

Apr 5, 2009

I have fedora 10 and am having problems with the wireless access. My computer uses the Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187B Wireless Adapter. It connects to the network, it gets an ip address and a broadcast address, but it loses connection within 3 min. I'm also new dealing with linux and fedora.

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Connection Lost After 10 Minutes Surfing

Apr 23, 2011

I do have a problem with my internet connection at home, I've a Huawei router and ubuntu 10. When I connect to the internet whether wireless or wired I become able to surf the internet for less than 10 min then it cuts off! and to be able to surf it again I need to restart the whole system!

I used this command to restart the networking but in vain
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

On windows I do not face this problem with the same internet connection. I do not face it either when I'm using my campus wireless connections using ubuntu/windows!, so the problem is related to my home connection+ my OS.

Fedora Networking :: Worthless Wireless Connection \ Works Well For A Few Minutes Then Has A Period Of Inactivity - Then Slow?

Nov 24, 2009

I'm running Fedora 12 on an Acer Aspire One with KDE. The built-in wireless works without a problem EVERYWHERE except at work. It's a shared wireless connection using WPA/WPA2 security.I can connect but it's "hit-and-miss" if I can do anything with it. Somedays it works well for a few minutes then has a period of inactivity - then slow - randomly receives...It worked flawlessly when the computer was running Windows7 no one else has connectivity issues but I'm the only one using Linux.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless - Lost It - 'wmaster0 No Wireless Extensions', But Then Refers To Wlan0 As The Wireless Connection

Mar 28, 2010

A friend who switched ISP's gave me his old Linksys WRT54-G wireless router. I went through the installation procedure and had a wireless connection up and running - smiley face. I had security set up for WPA, and decided to upgrade it to WPA2. Another smiley face. When I went to connect (had already done so successfully), I noticed it referred to my wireless as Linksys - I was expecting to see the SSID. So I started playing around in Network Manager and now I have things all effed up.

Don't know exactly what I did, but now I have no wireless. So I ran a few commands (lshw -C network, iwconfig, ifconfig, and iwlist scan), and looking at the results I see what appear to be inconsistencies in the output. I've posted them below, and make the following observations:

1. Under the lshw it refers to my wireless connection logical name as wmaster0, and has the correct MAC address, etc.

2. Under the iwconfig it says, 'wmaster0 no wireless extensions', but then refers to wlan0 as the wireless connection (although it does not seem to be running).

3. Under ifconfig I see both a wlan0 and a wlan0:avahi. The wlan0 has no IP, the wlan0:avahi does, but it is incorrect.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connection Drops Out After 15 Minutes?

Jun 13, 2011

Having struggled to get the wireless connection at least working I find it drops out after 15 minutes or so. When I check for wireless connections I can see none at all and the "Disable/Enable wireless conncection" has disappeared, the Network one is still there. I get an auto reconnection if I reboot and all is well for another 15 minutes. Is there any way i can recover the situation without a reboot? I am trying to install the hplip-3.11.5 driver for my new wireless printer,the program take a while to install and by the time it has started looking for the printer the connection has dropped out. I can't be sure but I don't think it was dropping out before I connected the printer using my wired pc. All good fun but I'd like to get it sorted so I can get the engine back in my motorbike, the sort of technology I prefer!

Ubuntu Networking :: Dell 1545 - Wireless Connection Drops After A Couple Of Minutes?

Apr 10, 2010

I have a Dell 1545 laptop with ubuntu 9.1 32-bit installed (the 64-bit had a bug with the wireless drivers which is why I have not used it). Initially, the laptop worked well with the wireless (a sky router with WPA security) but now, the wireless signal drops after a couple of minutes of usage. I have to reboot the laptop or sometimes reboot the router as well to regain the wireless signal. I am using the Broadcom STA proprietary wireless driver.

I have an older dell inspiron 6400 as well with the same OS and driver and it works perfectly without any problems for hours / days.

Notes:
- I have another PCI Wireless adapter which works fine.

- The problematic adapter works great on windows.

- A driver CD came with it, including a linux driver which I wasn't succesfully installed.

- A BackTrack3 Disc came with it, claming by the instructions that the adapter will work with it. I didn't try it because i have backtrack 4 final.

It took me dozens of surfing the web hours, and too many restarts,

Networking :: Lost Wireless Connection

Aug 5, 2010

I used to be able to connect to the net using my laptop {Ubuntu 9.10 on Compaq nx7400.}by means of wi-fi . I do not know what I have done but I lost the facility to connect to the net.I noticed the Network Manager disappeared from the notification area. I manged to put it back. It detects the signal from the router and after entering my password it displays Connection Established but I still cannot access the net and does not load any web pages. I have the same Ubuntu 9.10 Desk on a memory stick, when I use it on the laptop it works fine.

I enclose a screenshot of iwconfig.I did sudo lshw -C network and it shows DISABLED. How do I enable it ? Are there any other info that I should supply and what and how.

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Access Allowed When VPN Connection Lost?

Mar 16, 2010

As I view it, Ubuntu has a great security risk in that it still allows internet access when the VPN connection has been lost, for whatever reason. As it is now, when the VPN connection fails you get bumped back to using your regular IP, and whatever you are doing becomes transparent to anyone watching. This is simply unacceptable for an allegedly secure platform. Does anyone know of a way to fix this with a script/program, or is there a distribution/OS that allows this? Windows re-dials the vpn automatically, but still allows internet access in the mean time.

Fedora Networking :: 14 - Connection To Wlan Is Cut After About 5 Minutes?

Jan 10, 2011

I installed Fedora 14 yesterday via the installation DVD with 3,3 GB. Everything worked fine and when I connected to my wlan and entered the WEP key I got access to the internet. But after about 5 minutes, to connection just got cut and I was again asked for the WEP passkey. But when I entered it this time, the connection failed and I was just asked again (with the same key entered, it even got it saved from last time). As you can think, this is quite annoying, since the time I have internet is not even enough to get some updates done.

Ah, and by the way: The time I have internet it just is unbelievably slow. On my Windows partation, I don't have this problem. I do have a small hint what might be the problem: When I was using Ubuntu, I always had a similar problem, but it did not even connect to my wlan once. The solution was to blacklist some driver, but since I don't know if this might be the problem on Fedora too and if the drivers are the same as on Ubuntu and since I really have no idea about the syntax of the terminal here, I was not daring to try this out.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connection Lost When Using Battery Power?

Dec 18, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition on a Dell Mini 9 - worked around a few wireless issues on setup and connectivity has been fine, but now I'm suddenly losing wifi when I unplug my AC adapter. It still shows me as connected, but when I try to view web pages in Chromium, it will load pages for a few seconds, and then suddenly cuts out - though it still looks like it's trying to load the page.

It's the same if I boot on battery power - it will keep trying to connect to wifi but won't until I plug in the adapter. I'm assuming this probably has something to do with my power management preferences in battery mode, but I'm still pretty new to Ubuntu, and I'm not sure how to fix this. I've played with the options in power management, but I have a feeling there has to be more. Can anyone help me? This has been really frustrating.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connection But No Internet Access?

Dec 6, 2010

I had been happily using a wireless connection for about two weeks. The connection then went down for a few days. Since it came back up, I can connect to the network, but cannot access the internet. Other users of the network can both connect to the network, and access the internet, though people have experienced the same problem as me the last time the network went down (they could connect to the network but not access the internet). I have tried deleting and re-starting the connection, to no avail. I have looked around the forums, but haven't found anything that can help: do any of you have any suggestions? Ubuntu Networking :: 10.04 Wireless Connection - Connect To The Access Point

Apr 26, 2011

10.04 in a couple of identical lenovo laptops (of friends) suddenly have stopped connecting successfully to wireless, coinciding approximately with a mains power socket fail at the modem router, now fixed. presumably the machines were trying to connect to the access point, which may or may not have been working, but themodem router was not. Now, internet connection and wireless access point is fixed ok and is back up, and i can connect wirelessly to the access point ok using an eeepc with 10.04.2 with no problem so the access point is working ok

the target laptop/s are still ok via wired ethernet, and can *also* connect to a neighbours open wireless (a british telecom so called fon network, it asks for an account password), and all local wireless networks can be seen normally, and the home access point ssid can also be seen ok. so the aptop wireless is connecting ok, but not to this particular access point now. maybe someting has got screwed up? it is wpa2 and when clicked, after a long-ish time, the authentication is requested, then given, correctly, and still not connecting, asks for authentication again etc etc. no local secure wallet is being used.

when upgrading these laptops for my friend some time ago from 9.04 i have a small recall that 10.04 had a odd thing with wireless authentication (?) bug? i have deleted the network connections gui listing for this ssid and restarted the laptop, still no joy.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connection Drops - Access Point Not Assigned

Aug 19, 2010

I have Ubuntu command line only installed on my HTPC (it is XBMC Live installation). Kernel is 2.6.31-16-generic. My wi-fi card is AW-NE770 from AzureWave (mini-pci on Zotac Atom motherboard). I have successfully configured wireless connection to my router. Unfortunately, after short period of time connection drops. When I restart /etc/network/interfaces all goes back to normal. When connection is dropped, iwconfig shows that access point is not assigned. I have already tried installing backport drivers, removing security on the network (WEP and WPA), assigning static IP or using DHCP. Nothing works. I know it is not the router or my internet because I can be at the same time on my laptop and that works fine.

Networking :: OpenSwan VPN Drops Connection After 5 To 15 Minutes

Feb 18, 2011

Hello, I've installed OpenSwan with xl2tpd on my server, and set it up for roadwarriors connecting using certificates.

My server is Debian 5.0.8, I am running xl2tpd 1.2.0, and Openswan IPsec 2.4.12, my clients are all Windows, and I am testing my setup on a Windows 7 client.

I have no problem connecting to the server, but after some time the connection drops. I removed the idle option from the ppp config but it does not make any difference.

Even when I create constant traffic with ping -t the connection drops also.

I have no problems reconnecting right away.

I have been hacking at this for a couple of days, reading every post I can find, but I have not found a solution to my problem.

Here are my configs and logs:

Ubuntu :: Still Have Wireless Connection But Lost Internet

Nov 30, 2009

Three months ago my daughter went off to college with a new computer. I zapped her old system and successfully installed Ubuntu 9.04 from a CD. Everything worked fine including all the peripherals and the wireless internet connection. I was able to download and update applications without a hitch. Great system and so much cleaner and quicker than Win XP on the old machine. Then the system was shut down and lay idle for three months.When I fired it up a couple of days ago, all seemed normal except I could no longer access the internet even though the wireless network icon showed four or five bars. I first discovered the problem when I tried to update though Update Manager and noticed that 22 identified files could not be fetched. Neither Firefox, Skype nor Goodgle Earth can connect.

The router is a Linksys WRT54G router that connects to the computer through a Linksys WUSB54G USB network adapter. The router serves three other non-Linux computers without a problem, including one using the same model network adapter.I don't have much experience with Ubuntu, but this is some of the information I have been able to generate.

I tried a few of the recommendations found in other sites, but nothing seems to do the job. I am perplexed because everything was great until I shut down the system for three months and then started it up again. I appreciate any assistance and would be happy to provide additional information as requested.

Ubuntu Networking :: Java Socket Connection Created In More Than 3 Minutes

Mar 7, 2011

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10. I have a problem with any client side network communication from any java based program/application. I've tried to run the following code:

Code:
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
long start = System.currentTimeMillis();
Socket s = new Socket("ubuntuforums.org", 80);
System.out.println("1. connection created in "+ (System.currentTimeMillis() - start)/1000.0 +" s");
s.close(); start = System.currentTimeMillis();
s = new Socket("ubuntuforums.org", 80);
System.out.println("2. connection created in "+ (System.currentTimeMillis() - start)/1000.0 +" s");
s.close(); }

The result is the following:
Code:
1. connection created in 189.31 s
2. connection created in 0.085 s

I've tried both java-1.6.0-openjdk and java-6-sun-1.6.0.24 with almost the same results. During the extremely long 189 seconds, the processor is doing almost nothing (java thread has 0 %). I've tried also a wireshark to check what is going on, but the first packet was released after those 189 seconds. There is nothing in log files, I have no exceptions or errors, and the connections work (after the first long delay) just fine.
