A colleague gave me a shell script ("dti_motion") which needs to be run from the directory containing all the files it works on. I want to run the same script for several different directories. But I don't want to have to cd into each directory, run the script, wait for it to finish, and then cd to the next directory (there are 52 to do altogether).
So I wanted to write a very simple script that will cd to each directory and perform the script there, before going on to the next one. My colleague's script ("dti_motion") is stored in my home/bin/ and is executable. My home/bin/ is in my path, as verified by echo $path. When run from a directory containing the necessary information, the dti_motion script works perfectly well. I wrote an extremely inelegant script called "dti_motion_do_all" which is also stored in my home/bin/ and executable:
#!/bin/sh
#Get motion information for each subject, using Mark's script, called dti_motion
cd /imaging/cr01/PD_DTI/C_10/12x5
[code]....
I know there will be more elegant ways to write this script with loops, rather than simply using cd, but for the moment, I just want this to run, until I have learnt to use loops properly. how to correct either of those "command not found" or "no such file or directory" errors, given that both the original dti_motion and my dti_motion_do_all script are in my /home/bin/ (which is on my path) and both scripts are executable?

I've installed the latest Fedora 13 flavour, yum update completed, yum install samba -y
all installed fine.
yum list grep samba shows samba-13 installed however when type smbclient as root it returns
"Command Not Found" and returns me to bash.
yum remove samba
reboot
yum install samba
still nothing
smb[tab] returns : smbd, smbusers and 3 others but none that are smbc*. I'm kinda stuck for my windows shares at this point.
smbd i presumed was the deamon so i triggered that but smbclient still cant be found and when i ran smb(something) status it stated that the samba service was up and running.
users list is configured but i believe this is an issue with the command.

I'm attempting to install the Oracle Sun Ray Server Software on Fedora 15 and I've done the majority of the install and config however, the system is coming up with an error that the gdmdynamic command is not found??
Apparently this comes with gdm but I couldn't find a package correlating to this command.
Apparently it comes with Gnome/GDM.... I don't have Gnome installed in the system but do have GDM!

I have a Dell Vostro 3300, i5 460 processor with a NVIDIA 310M Graphics Card. I'm doing a KUBUNTU 10.10 (Maverick) install with the following results. The Live CD boots just fine to, "TEST," or "Install." Installation goes fine. However, the graphics card being used is the Intel i915. I have tried installing the NVIDIA drivers directly from the, "Additional Drivers," tool and after the reboot I get through the boot screen to the console. I try to manually startx and I get the errors, "no device found," "no screens found." The second install I tried purging and blacklisting the nouveau drivers and entering safe mode. Then using apt-get install nvidia-current. After that, nvidia-xconfig. Same results.
The third attempt I re-installed and this time downloaded the drivers from the Nvidia site (version 256.53). Blacklisted nouveau, remove all nvidia, updated initramfs, etc. The install went fine however I still end up at a console after boot with the same messages as above. No device found, no screens found. I've tried searching through the forum and web and have tried things like adding the modset option along with many other hacks, tips and fixes. still, no go.I can live with the Intel graphics for now although I lose 512MB of memory. Unfortunately there is no way to disable or change this set-up in the BIOS. I've seen quite a few bug reports at Launchpad:
1. Is this something I should just wait til a fix comes? Will a fix come?
2. Is there, or will there be an official Updated Ubuntu Guide for Maverick to install NVIDIA drivers with this tecnology?
3. Lastly, is there anything else I should try??

I decided to switch from Ubuntu to Fedora Core 10 KDEdual boot installation worked perfectly... all smooth!untill i got to installing things....i wanted to install ndiswrapper, so i manually downloaded it on my second pc and transferred it trought a USB stick to the Fedora PC. When reading the 'installation manual' it clearly uses the "make" command a lot...problem is; bash error: "bash: make: command not found"So i google this and i get some solutions, all involving online repositories...so basically... i need internet to get the MAKE rpm, and i need the MAKE rpm to get the internet working... :')I tried searching online repositories but i haven't got a clue about what i need to download from there (to get the make command, or the "Development Tools") and how to install it on my fedora pc....i need help :P It would be much appreciated if someone could explain me how i could get these important packages up and running on my system with manual downloading and installing.I haven't got a clue how to do this manually... I've been on it for hours allready and I'm getting a bit fed up with it I can't understand why such an important package isn't standard included in the installation.

I've been using linux for a long time, and I just ran into a problem that has me stumped. Any time I mistype a command, it says "Command not found."... yea, I know that's normal. But it doesn't return me to my # prompt. I have to press Ctrl+C to get back. code...
I know I do have one issue with this computer, I have 2 blown caps on my motherboard. This was a dual boot system, but after a virus with winblows, I decided to switch it to strictly linux. (roommates... *grumble*) I think I was running fc10 before I wiped the hd & installed fc12. Fc12 does seem to be running slower, and I still haven't got my sound card working properly... but that issue is for another topic...

I installed debian 4.0 (etch) on an old computer with some pickled graphics card in it, and then I upgraded the computer to one with slightly newer hardware only without the graphics card (the new one used on board graphics). I moved the hard drive from the old one to the new one but when I booted it up it failed to start the X-server and I got some errors listed for "device not found" and "no screens found".
I tried using "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" however I can't seem to find a working configuration. It seems pretty silly that when installing debian it can detect all this automatically with no problems but when it comes to changing some hardware around you are left in the dark with a complicated re-configuration process. Is there not some way to automate this? I'd rather not have to re-install everything

Defining tcsh aliases through a .aliases file has worked perfectly for me for years and years using cygwin and older versions of mandriva. I am encountering very annoying and mysterious problems when attempting to do the same thing with a .aliases file in a fedora 64-bit VM. Strangely, if I define aliases in the file, they won't work, but if I do so on the command line, then they will.
Here's a simple example: Suppose I define an alias for "ls" in the file:
alias ls '/bin/ls'
Then source the file. This happens:
me: ls : Command not found.
me: alias ls
/bin/ls
me: /bin/ls
file1 file2 file3 etc.
me: unalias ls
me: ls
file1 file2 file3 etc.
me: alias ls '/bin/ls'
me: ls
file1 file2 file3 etc.
A second example: if I place either of these lines in my .aliases file:
alias d '/bin/ls -alF !:1'
alias d '/bin/ls -alF !*'and source the alias file, this happens:/ me: d
Bad ! arg selector. However, if I define the alias on the command line:
/ me: alias d '/bin/ls -alF !*'then the alias behaves correctly:/ me: dtotal 376

I'm running Fedora 10 [KDE] on an Acer laptop and am having problems configuring "hot keys" for it. First thing that needs to be mentioned is that the hotkeys used to work when I was running it on Gnome without me having to do anything. I assumed that this will be the case with KDE too. In any case, I think driver installation is supposed to be quite straight forward. There are two packages: acer_acpi and acerhk and different installation instructions for each one of them. The problem I am having is when I run the makefile script for either one of these, I get the following output in the terminal:
Quote:
Makefile: line 5: KERNELSRC?=/lib/modules/2.6.27.9-159.fc10.x86_64/build: No such file or directory
Makefile: line 6: KERNELSRC: command not found
Makefile: line 6: KERNELSRC: command not found
Makefile: line 6: shell: command not found
Makefile: line 6: shell: command not found
Makefile: line 8: KERNELVERSION: command not found
[Code].....
I think build-essential and some other packages are normally needed, but since you can't get them for Fedora (?), I groupinstalled "Development Tools" and some other group.

I had to reload my openSuSE 11.1 and reloaded KDE 4.3.4 from KDE Repositories and did an unconditional update on KDE Core and Community to ensure I got all the current versions back.
I am now having an issue with at least two plasmoids that is regularly used. When I attempt to add them to the desktop, I get the message "component not found". This happens to at least these two, yasp and yawp for system status and weather. It may happen to others, I haven't tried.
They are both loaded and both are present in /usr/share/kde4/services. I removed them using YaST, then rebooted, then re-added them, then rebooted and still get the same result, component not found.
