I just installed Fedora 13. In the "applications" and "places" menus, there are little icons next to each item. In the "System" menu, however, there are not. I believe there used to be, no? Anyone else notice this?

I have checked 'show menu icons' option in Xubuntu settings, and all gtk apps have their icons. Skype is a Qt app however. VLC is also a Qt app, and it's missing its icons, too.
Ubuntu Lucid not all the icons in the menus on the panel at the top of the screen are there any more.how do I get those back? I really miss my bookmarks icon, and the icons in the system menu. I don't care if the icons are there by default, I just want the choice of whether or not they are displayed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora Core 13 x86-64 from the installation DVD and picked the "Software Development" installation. I notice that the Applications->System Tools menu doesn't have "File Browser" on it.
Nautilus is installed, so I can create a launcher for it. I'm merely curious whether this is a change or bug in FC 13? Or should I suspect that I myself deleted the file browser launcher accidentally? The machine is a laptop and I find the mousepad awkward to use.
I am running Lucid Lynx 10.04.3. Sometimes when I boot the computer, my desktop icons are not there. I ended up looking for a solution, and found one:
1. Hit Alt-F2 and run gconf-editor
2. Go to apps/nautilus/preferences and check 'show_desktop'
However, show desktop was already checked. If I unchecked it, and then checked it again, the desktop icons appeared. Weird, but problem solved right? Wrong.
Sometimes when I boot, the desktop icons are gone again. This doesn't happen at every single boot though. When they are gone again though, I just have to go through the process again. Here's where it gets worse.
Also, sometimes at boot, both the top and bottom taskbars/system trays are completely gone, leaving just the desktop. Once again, this doesn't happen at every single boot. I can't really do anything, so I just reboot again and more often then not, things are back to normal. Or the trays are back, but the desktop icons are gone again.
The weird thing about this is it doesn't happen every time I boot the computer. So if there is a problem I just restart and things are usually fine again. However this is very frustrating, and NOT normal.
Also, because the default drivers for my NVIDIA GeForce MX4000 were not sufficient, I had to remove the Nouveau drivers and install nvidia-glx-96, which corresponds to the official NVIDIA Linux driver version 96.43.17. This is the latest driver version listed for my card on the NVIDIA website. I also had to downgrade from 11.04 because apparently the old drivers are not compatible with the new X Server version in 11.04. I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not. I'm wondering if maybe i should just get a newer card so I don't have to deal with the older drivers.
On my Kubuntu 10.04 machine changing the icons is done in the appearance section in menu-system settings-appearance then selecting icons. Can this be done in Ubuntu 10.04 and if so how?
View 1 Replies View Relatedyesterday I upgraded my Fedora installation via preupgrade from 11 to 12.Now there are some icons missing! If I go to the 'System' menu in the panel, there are no icons at all.If then I select the 'Settings' submenu, all of its icons are visible.I figured out that the package redhat-menus and fedora-icon-theme make up the representation of this icons and reinstalled them. Then I additionally executed 'gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders-64 > /etc/gtk-2.0/x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf.loaders' (I read this somewhere in the forum).
But nothing happend so far?!
I made further efforts trying to find out the icon of the System Configuration Menu (Syst -> Administration). The file '/usr/share/desktop-directories/SystemConfig.directory' contains the icon that should be displayed for the System->Administration menu. This file contains the line: Icon=preferences-system Good so far.I thought that selecting the gnome icon theme would fix this problem, but this also didn't help!Now I'm at the end of my knowledge (or I don't want to rename single icons to match the names required)...
I'm trying to change the icon on my custom main menu on Ubuntu 10.10 doing this> sudo gconf-editor apps/panel/default_setup/objects/menu_bar.I gave object_type menu-object and custom_icon path as /home/ john/Pictures/menu.png then I checked use_custom_icon but with no luck (notice that I've succeed doing this in a virtual machine with the exact settings)Also I want to have icons on places and system, so I did thisdesktop/gnome/interface and clicked menus_have_icons.what I'm missing?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWell like the title Implies, In my Administration menu in Gnome I don't have a "Printing" option. So I can't search for/install printers right now.I'm running 10.04 Server. I installed the gnome-desktop-environment package to get a GUI up and running for manipulating the filesystem, But not all the menu's I was expecting appeared. Is this because I used the gnome-desktop-environment instead of the ubuntu-desktop-environment package? ecause I have two PC's setup next to each other. One using the ubuntu-desktop-environment, and one using the gnome-desktop-environment package and the two desktops are clearly different.All I want to know is how to add the Printers menu to my PC running the gnome-desktop-environment package. I already looked at gconf-editor and the printing menu isn't hidden or anything, it's just not there. And me being a new user to Linux, I don't know how else to get to those printer abilities without the GUI

I had a strange problem with a brand-new Dell Vostro 3550 laptop with clean a Fedora 15 x86-64 installation. I chose to download the boot image and install from the network. I selected packages for software development without customizing anything. The installation went on smoothly. Once I started using the system, I used yum to install several additional packages. Strangely the icons for these applications seem to be missing.Screenshot1 shows that both Thunderbird and Remmina (for remote desktop) icons shown generic icon.Screenshot2 shows the Default Applications tab in the System Info where Thunderbird does not have an icon.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed Debian Jessie 8.0.3 64-bit net install on an IBM ThinkCentre. I have earlier had a dual boot Win 8 and Ubuntu 14.04 installed on the computer. When I installed Debian Jessie, I deleted the Ubuntu partitions and created new partitions from the free space. The install went fine and the Debian EFI/UEFI version of Grub was installed, but clearly at some other place, as when I boot the system, the old Ubuntu Grub pops up and of course cannot find the necessary files that it is looking for.

The openSUSE 11.3 dvd for x86 now only gives a "system rescue" option which leads to command line directl. Where have been "the repair the installed system" tools? How can we access them now? View 1 Replies View RelatedRunning Fedora 13, LXDE spin. Today, the pcmanfm package updated to version 0.9.7 during a software update. After a reboot, I no longer have desktop icons and I'm seeing the default Fedora wallpaper. Also, if I right-click on the desktop, I get a standard openbox menu instead of the LXDE one.
I would like to get my old desktop back.
I have noticed in my pc (i386) and my ps3 (ppc64) under FC12 gnome 2.28 that some icons from some menus doesn't always appear, like in:

However, when the cursor hovers over the icons, they become normal. This is a problem with ati driver and Gnome-shell.
I'm looking for a way to hide the icons in the Gnome menu bar.
The only thing i've found is the gconf-editor and unchecking /desktop/gnome/interface/menus_have_icons, but that only affects the System menu and not Applications and Places...

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist
