i'm planning on installing Moblin on a pc i have that runs Intel Celeron. Moblin is made for Intel Atom, but i have heard that you can install it on top of Fedora Core using Quote: su -c 'yum install @moblin-desktop' in the terminal. I don't want to have any other desktop invironment (gnome), and i want the moblin to start up automatically, will this happen or do i have to set it that way and if so how do i do it?
The computer is pretty slow so i want it to start moblin and just that and make it work easilly.
i've installed fedora 14 with gnome, and i want to install moblin desktop. but i can't find "moblin desktop" group or other like that. how can i install moblin ?
I've got Fedora 11 working fine on an HP Mini 2140 netbook. (Wireless works after enabling the rpmfusion repo and installing the broadcom-wl driver.) Now I want to try to put Moblin 2.0 on the netbook as a dual boot.
Unfortunately the Moblin installer (Anaconda? Looks like it.) reports that there's no free space on the / volume. It looks like what's going on is that Fedora 11 created two partitions: /boot and /; and the / partition is LVM and uses all the rest of the available space on the hard drive.
I want to continue using Fedora 11's bootloader for any dual boot. So, basic question #1: Is the solution to create another partition for the Moblin install, or to resize the existing / LV in the existing LV group, and then create another LV for the Moblin install? In other words, can I install another OS on a second LV in the same LVG?
I want to triple boot Windows 7, Ubuntu and Moblin/whatever other fast booting OS I come across. At the moment, I've got Windows 7 and Ubuntu there. I can make free space for Moblin, but how would I configure GRUB 2 so it reads it too?
Moblin does have a GRUB, but I'm presuming that its the legacy version, not GRUB 2. How would I get the Ubuntu GRUB back as the main bootloader if that were the case?
This is just planning, there will probably be more question springing to mind later on.
Right, I've made some progress in regards to this. Moblin is now on the GRUB2 boot menu thanks to a sudo update-grub. But for some strange reason, it comes up with this the scenario in the first image when I go into its entry.
I tried doing some stuff to the /etc/default/grub, but that didn't even help. The second image shows the contents of /etc/default/grub.
I would really like Moblin to work. I am so close to getting it to work, yet so far because I can't even boot into it
I have C: and D: on my computer. the D drive has 250 GB of free space. I would like to install it on the D drive without harming my existing windows. I have booted through an USB and it has an icon that says "install fedora on your hard disk". How do I make sure that it will be installed only my D drive without harming my windows?
I recently upgraded from Fedora 13 to Fedora 14 and noticed something strange when I used Yum to install GNote and Inkscape. Yum installed the Fedora 14 version of the programs, but installed some dependencies that were actually from Fedora 12 and 13. The output below shows what packages were installed.
Yum output:
==================================================================================================== =================================================================== Package Arch Version Repository Size
[code].....
When I ran the yum command to list all of the packages for the dependencies in question, it only listed the version for Fedora 12 or 13. Is there something wrong with one of my repositories or do these Fedora 14 programs actually use packages from previous versions of Fedora?
After searching online and in these forums I found two different ways of installing the Nvidia drivers in fedora 12. If you haven't yet installed the the repos then:
Code: su rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm First way: as su (1) yum --enablerepo=rp*g install kmod-nvidia.$(uname -m) xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64
[Code]...
I used the first way and everything seems to work fine. Compiz-fusion works good but i did have to add vga=795 to /boot/grub/grub.conf to get the graphical boot loader to work again. Should I have used the second method? What is the difference in these two ways? Most notably the second steps. Is one way better or preferred over the other? From my understanding you must do this because of the nouveau driver.
I am installing Fedora 10 on my system. After the package installation, a post install screen appears. And the installations halts for a long time and does not proceed further.
I installed Fedora 15 with gnome3 on my netbook and after some slight trouble I got it installed Now heres the the bad news: grub doesn't show my Ubuntu installations(s), only Fedora 15 and windowz 7
I am compiling and installing the custom kernel based on the instructions provided in Building_a_custom_kernel on fedoraproject.org/wiki site.
However, according to the instructions, anytime I change anything in the kernel source files(e.g /driver/ata/libata-core.c), I have to create a patch a rebuild the whole kernel and install this new kernel which takes 2 hours. Is there a simpler way of recompiling what has changed(without creating patch) and try that changed kernel? Since my changes are not in the drivers which can be dynamically loaded but is in the static code of the kernel, it is making life cumbersome. Are there any instructions for this? How does other kernel developers manage this?
Im trying to install fedora 11 on my MacBook (Aluminum Series) but its not working.I turn on my mac...boot from the DVD...follow the instructions to install the fedora on my mac ( 3 partitions = [1-swap, 2-boot, 3-main]) and it installs normally, installs all the packages. When the installing is finished...it says click on reboot..When i do that, it seems like its rebooting...but the screen turns black for a long long long time that after a while im forced to manually turn off my mac. And when i turn it on...and see if the fedora is installed, There is nothing but my mac OS
I installed Fedora 11 last night and found that it installs a lot of applications and utilities that i dont need and will never use. I tried to customise the installation before installing but there is too many of them that i just gave up.
All i need is the Apache Webserver and the mysql database. is there an easier way to installl a quick Fedora installation with just the webserver and the database and nothing else?
I have fedora 11. I installed debian on my computer and I have only the debian menu. I entered to debian menu.lst to add Fedora, i restart my computer and Fedora appears in the grub menu, but when I try to boot, it tells me that is there un notexisting system. I am completely new to linux and I want to install Fedora on my older PC. The PC is running 2.3 GHZ pentium 4 processor, 512mb Ram, and about 80GB free on the harddrive.
The PC is a Dell 8300 series and is already running Windows XP. I want to be able to dual boot Fedora and XP. I was following a tutorial but I cannot find the link anymore otherwise you would be able to view it and see if its a bad tutorial.
The tutorial had it so that I was downloading and creating and ISO Disk from here [url]. The next step was that I boot from the newly created disc by changing the setting in the BIOS. Then the tutorial instructed that I change the partition size for windows inside fedora after it boots. however I never got that far
When I booted off of the Fedora disk that I created the machine would get a message that said "Missing operating system"
I also tried booting from a flash drive but it did the same thing
It would be great if anyone could help me out, or point me to a better tutorial. Please take note that I am very green. I am not a programmer and I have limited skills on the computer. I just wanted to get my hands dirty by playing around in Fedora. So I may not understand all the Linux lingo yet.

So how would I go about installing Fedora 12? Does anyone just have a link with a download button and it be simple as that. Or do I have to use a CD or usb??
Kinda like Wubi I can keep Windows 7 and Linux, Is there something like that but with Fedora 12
I need it to install and run CUDA applications (nVidia proprietary GPU API) and I need 4.3.x, but F12 ships with GCC 4.4.x. I thought it would be compat-gcc something, but that installs 3.x.x and I want 4.3.x
Now I know there are loads of tutorials on the net, but I did have my share of tryings and failures and I have to ask for your help now. Please note that I am a complete Fedora novice.I am running a KDE Fedora 13 32 bit. I want to install JRE 6. I have the jre-6u22-i586-rpm.bin file. I checked several tutorials, each different to the other. Some of them point out that running the script file would be enough. Well not in my case.
I run the chmod a+x jre-6u22-i586-rpm.bin ./jre ..... I though this command only changes permission to access files, however I do read on some tutorials that the installation should start upon that command, that "Terms" page should appear to me... well none of this happens. No output at all. So I use the sh command. I do get asked about terms, accept and install. In the tutorial @ oracle, it says that this should be it. Well, not here.java -version just ouputs "Unknown command"I did even manually edit the etcprofile file and added
JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_21 pathmunge $JAVA_HOME/jre/bin after
, also JAVA_HOME on a line the export line below.Still no change. Its getting really frustrating, as every tutorail says different, but whatever I do I cannot get JRE running.
I'm a newby in using Fedora 13. I need to use D-ITG to generate network traffic. Can anyone shows me how to configure the installation of D-ITG on Fedora 13? I've done downloading the installer.

I'm using Fedora 12, with Gnome and no KDE. Firstly how do I install QGtkStyle? I couldn't find it in either the official or RPM Fusion repositories. According to this it should already be installed with Qt, which I know is installed otherwise I woulnd't be able to run KDE programs, but I couldn't find it on my system. [URL] How do I change the Qt theme when I don't have KDE installed?
