Fedora Installation :: How To Wipe Out MySQl And Reintall
Apr 28, 2011
After battling to install the yum packege for the LAMP, mI have not been able to finish installing or at least configuring the MySQL.How can I un-install ALL related files for the MYSQL o can I just yum again that package. that is as the first step. I understand that MYSQL instralls with a -null_ passord for the adminstrative rightsI NEVER THOUGHT that installing Wordpress , or any other progrma for that matter, would be so complicated. seems Windows OS has a gtreat advantage there.
I have installed Ubuntu within xp abt 6 months before and till now im running dual boot with grub loader. I guess its Ubuntu became the primary OS but not sure. I need to figure out 2 things.
1) Which one is the primary OS. Since the grub loader is showing first, is it ubuntu? or since I have installed ubuntu alongside xp, is it XP? which one gets affected if i format/remove c: drive. 2) And second I would like to format xp and install windows 7 without losing my data, hard drives etc.
Is it possible? I want to just format my windows xp installed c: and want my ubuntu remain untouched, coz I have made many manual configurations and installed many softwares and made my ubuntu more stable than windows, so that i will continue to use ubuntu grub loader henceforth for ubuntu and windows 7.
I had Ubuntu on my hard drive and tried to install Arch Linux. Things got messy and I now have an unstable, unbootable machine. I feel the installation failed because there were remains of Ubuntu. I'd like to wipe the hard drive and start over from scratch; without anything on there. How do I do this? I have several partitions made in a desperate attempt to make it all work. So I'd like to remove all partitions and any other information that's on the drive. I can not start any OS, but I can boot with the Live USB of Arch Linux...
I need to wipe the slate clean on my computer and start from scratch. I have too many issues and school is just around the corner for me, I've got a huge workload and don't have time to find solutions to my problems right now. I recently upgraded to Lucid but that only escalated my woes. The simple fact is my machine is getting too old and it's time to upgrade everything, which won't happen until fall. So for now I simply want to downgrade to hardy because it will be supported until April next year and it is very stable, plus I think it is the release that my graphics card got a decent resolution on (ATI, need I say more?). I'm somewhat of a noob, but I've got my wits about me and have researched the forums for many hours to find solutions, but to no avail. I don't want to go into details about what issues I'm having, I just need to know how to remove ALL kernels off of Grub and start from scratch. Any links to comprehensive tutorials would be ideal, or if someone knows of anything else that will work,
P.S. I love Ubuntu and am a lifer. The philosophy behind it as well as the community are supreme and will someday rule the universe,
I am having trouble reinstalling grub so That I can see both my linux and windows partitions in the cain loader. Originally I had ubuntu, then I installed window, this wiped out grub so I had to reinstate it, and that went ok. Then I tried to get fancy and install another Linux on my machine. It did not wipe out my partitions but is defunct I have been following these instructions, [URL]
To no success. Grub2 installs fine, sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/(my part ion) /dev/sda2 and I install it to sda2, but the" Installation finished. No error reported. This is the contents of the device map /boot/grub/device.map. Check if this is correct or not. If any of the lines is incorrect, fix it and re-run the script `grub-install'. (hd0) /dev/sda"
I'm trying to do a simple install. Wipe out existing system and replace with 11.04 but I can't get past initial screen. Is there a different CD version I need to use? Last year I used 10.04 LTS and it worked fine, this year I wanted to start with the newest and go from there. I use Remastersys to make my own install version for 600+ laptops and I need to be able to wipe out the existing systems without effort.
My old-ish Dell laptop is currently running Windows 2000 and Ubuntu 9.10. I originally installed 2000 to try and squeeze a bit more performance out of the laptop for general use, but in practise Ubuntu is running great and sees far more use than the Win2K installation so I've decided to create a stripped-down (i.e. non-networked) XP installation purely to run a few favourite audio applications.
I plan to do a fresh Windows install and wipe the current C: partition. Is there anything I should be aware of in terms of the GRUB bootloader. Will it simply recognise the new XP installation? Obviously I will back up my data before I continue, but are there any other precautions to take with respect to dual-booting? I could do without having to reinstall Ubuntu too!
I messed up the first installation of Fedora on my server. My setup is as follows: Fedora and Gnome - NFS system, No dual boot (Windows or anything) Fedora ISO DVD downloaded No kickstart or other tools. how to set this up, from the time I insert the disk and have it boot up (configged already to boot from it). I know how to wipe it clean at intall time. Is that the root directory? And, is /boot the actual boot directory? I'm just having a hard time uderstanding that. As I said, I just want a quick itemized list, step 1, step 2, etc, from partitioning, creating file system, mounting, etc. in the right order.
Mysql starting problem after changing mysqladmin password.I tried all the solutions available on forums, but not solve the problem. At last I restored the mysql db backup, this make mysql service start, but till other databases not showing all tables.
I've been attempting to set up a LAMP for local web development, which meant installing mysql-server. But now have a problem when trying to run mysql, I get:-
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
When trying to downgrade mysql-server I saw that there are dependency problems between the various modules (but can't recall which). But whichever route I truied the results are always the same.
Thought about trying XAMPP but I note that even has it's problems, is there any way I can get a lamp set up on FC14, or must I give it up as a bad job.
Howver, just been trying to again to fix the problems with downgrading mysql and get:-
I have just migrate from UBUNTU to Fedora 11. Tried to install cacti by 'yum install cacti' everything presumably went correctly. But when trying to get cacti running on a browser it's showing:
Code: FATAL: Cannot connect to MySQL server on 'localhost'. Please make sure you have specified a valid MySQL database name in 'include/config.php' Checked everything else including installing new mysqld-server (using yum install) and still not working.
Trying the installation steps from [URL], but could not find where mysql was installed. Mysqld should already be running, cos I can see it using webmin-server-mysql. Did a test as shown on [URL], everything seems ok. No major problem when using UBUNTU with apt-get install.
I installed mysql on FC14, but can't successfully create a new user. It lets me go through all the steps without complaint, but then I can't log into mysql as the new user.
Here's what I did.
1) yum install mysql mysql-server 2) service mysqld start ##sets up mysql 3) mysqladmin -u root password myownsecrectpass ##create a root password 3b) mysql -uroot -p; #log in as root, this works fine 4) CREATE DATABASE webdb; 5) CREATE USER 'anewuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'password123'; ##create anewuser with a passwd 6) GRANT ALL ON webdb.* TO anewuser@'%'; 7) FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
Then I log out of mysql as root and try to log in like this mysql -uanewuser -p
I enter the password and get this error:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
How can I change the root password of MYSQL server. I have just finished installation, but I mistakenly typed the wrong root password, and now I need to change it from command line, because I cannot even access the UI.
I think this goes here, but I'm not sure. I decided that XAMPP had been troublesome enough. MySQL never worked. So I decided to instal the LAMP stack offered by YaST. I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:
Code: the-matrix:~ # mysql start ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) or Code: the-matrix:~ # rcmysql start Starting service MySQL warning: /var/mysql/mysql.sock didn't appear within 30 seconds chmod: cannot access `/var/run/mysql/mysqld.pid': No such file or directory
What commands can be used to install software such as "phpMyAdmin" to Fedora? As I am setting up Apache in Fedora. How to install "phpMyAdmin" and setup phpMyAdmin, so that I can use internet explorer to manage the phpMyAdmin to configure the MySQL database remotely.
i am using liferay5.2(mysql included in the download pack) on fedora. while liferay is working fine but i cannot connect to mysql.i am getting the error
[ [root@localhost ~]# ln -s /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock /tmp [root@localhost ~]# /etc/init.d/mysqld start Timeout error occurred trying to start MySQL Daemon.
[code]....
i didnt find the mysql.sock file in the location /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock. i cannot find the portal-ext.properties file also to make intial settings.
I am getting the following error when starting mysql using 'sudo /etc/init.d/mysql start':
Mar 15 16:33:56 MoodFishDev /etc/init.d/mysql[18317]: 0 processes alive and '/usr/bin/mysqladmin --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf ping' resulted in Mar 15 16:33:56 MoodFishDev /etc/init.d/mysql[18317]: ^G/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to
I am trying to get mysql to start at boot without any success.
The mysqld scripts works fine when run from the command line, but it does not work when i use the links created by chkconfig. I checked the boot.log and found that mysql starts but then it stops or gets shutdown. This is the log message:
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /data/mysql [ OK ] Starting cups: [ OK ] STOPPING server from pid file /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid starting DenyHosts: /usr/bin/denyhosts.py --daemon --config=/usr/share/denyho sts/denyhosts.cfg 090727 04:35:47 mysqld ended
I'm trying to overwrite everything with plain old zero's so I can literally start from scratch then install Windows Xp Pro.How can I get around this, also I'm using the cd live.
I'm selling my Dell Mini 10 that came with Ubuntu on it. I never really used it much, and the only sensitive things on it were some PHP files with MySQL passwords that I can change on the server if need be. I'm not familiar with command line at all, so I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to wipe the SSD. I already reinstalled the OS using the recovery disk from Dell which said it would 'delete' the contents of my hard drive. I'm not sure if the job it did is suitable. What's the best way for me to make sure my data can't be recovered? Is there anything with a GUI I can download to help with this?
I search many hours on the web for wipe my ram in a secure way and i find nothing good/secure/work exept URL... and i think it's the best solution for wipe RAM at shutdown!Im a newbie user and i want to implement this solution on my debian system at shutdown, i think its very easy because TAILS is based on debian! Does someone can put the procedures for get that on a debian box please?
however I've managed to hash up the iPod database using gtkpod, as it seemed to come up with some error, which it quite often seems to do. It all semed normal unitl I ejected the device, as, upon ejection, it appears to not have any tracks or videos on, only games, however I can tell you that all the tracks are still there. The only other issue is my windows box is out of commision, and my laptop doesn't have enough space to hold 80g of music, and need the iPod soon for many presentations, which rules out sending it back to apple.
