Most of the time, when I try to install something using yum, it mostly say nothing to do, here in the desktop computer, while using yum in my laptop do just fine? It is important to run in the desktop because it is my project.

After this nothing! YUM does not work, neither does Firefox! A bug report informed me there was a Python problem but I can find no reference to this anywhere.

The question is simple really, I've added a local universality's time server (what is public) and it's live. but it's added to the end of the default time servers what come with fedora. How do I get fedora to just use the local time server, is it a case of removing the default time servers for fedora, but there is a box what says advanced options which are. sync system clock before starting service ???? & use Local time source (( is that the same as the local ntp server that I've got set up ))Hope some body can help me with the network time protocol part of Date/Time settings.

I have problems with running Yast2 under Gnome when I connect via VNC to the computer. The first 20-30 times it worked, but then it simply stopped to work. When switching to another VNC-Server (instead of :1 to :2) it works again for approx. 20-30 times. The behaviour is very much similar to the one described here:

I use OpenSUSE 11.2 with german language set. The VNC server I use the one that is installed "by default".
When I try to run Yast2 from a terminal under Gnome as normal user I get the following output:

In Ubuntu, why does copy and past not work for most applications. I can't tell you how many times I have copied some text and went to a new application and Past is greyed out. For example, in Firefox I can highlight some text like "Belmont Diner", then right click and choose "Copy". Then go up to the Google search bar and right click and Paste is not an option. I have tried doing this using Crtl C to copy and Ctrl V to paste. It does not work...most of the time. Every once in a while it will but most of the time it does not. I can repeat the action to make sure I really copied the data and still no luck. Sometimes it works but many times it does not.

I installed it yesterday and booted it through usb(after following instructions from the forum itself).My problem is that OS is booting just fine (as I can hear those drums beating) but there is no display. I have read the forums for the same problem , it says to press Alt+Clt+F1 to get the terminal. O tried that too but there is no display whatsoever just the blank screen.
I am using Lenovo notebook and i have installed ubuntu 9.10 and i have a dual boot the other one being win vista.

Now after I reboot the Fedora14 during startup, it takes very very long time to start up the mdmonitor service.
After that when I log on using a local account in the Fedora14 machine, it takes painfully long time to log on. And it does not identify the domain user.
I can able to log on to the ldap server through ssh from the Fedora machine.
I issued the command 'getent passwd' which does not fetch the domain users either. I am completely lost now.

How to use my two monitors together ?
As an arranger of collegiate a cappella music, I often times need to listen to a song as I'm playing with a midi sequencer or some arranging software. On Ubuntu, since Gutsy, I've often run into the same problem from distribution to distribution:
Midi and audio won't work at the same time. If I have an audio file open on VLC or FireFox, I can't play Midi sequences on my arrangement. If I'm arranging and listening to Midi notes, I can't play music. Note that it's incredibly inconvenient to constantly close one so I can play the other to finish arrangements.
With out going into 2 much detail at this point this is my issue.
I have installed unbuntu 11.04. I have 3 screens. 2 are attached to a ATi adapter and 1 screen is a sandy bridge video adapter.
I have already used the forums a lot to reach this point.
When i change my bios to set the primary adapter to sandy bridge, I can only get 1 screen to work.
When I set my bios to point to the Ati adapter as primary, then only the 2 screens connected to that adapter work.
How do I get both video adapters and all 3 screens to work?
I have run out of ideas on what my next step should be.
Ati adapter is a Radeon HD 4800 Series. The Sandy bridge one HD Graphics Family
I have two ethernet ports on my SuperMicro server. When I start the system, only eth1 is operable. If I ifup eth0, I get a message that it is already configured, but I can't ping any of the IPs on it.
If I ifdown eth1, then ifdown eth0 and ifup eth0, then I can ping any of the IPs on eth0 in the interfaces file. Of course, now eth1 is not reachable.

I tried to draw two lines with xlib.h in C. If I start this compiled program it show me in most cases a window with two lines as it should be.
But sometimes the two lines are not drawn.If I insert XFlush() before the second XSync() it worked better but not every time.Why?How can I solve the problem?How works the X-Server buffer in detail?

When I try to join #fedora on Freenode, however, I am unable to identify my username (which worked fine in XChat). I bought the extra two computers because I've managed to find an extra two people to work at my company, and AMD-based PCs are cheaper so I've decided to buy them instead of Intel.Long-story short, I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 and boot time takes about half-an-hour. After the computers finally boot, USB hardware doesn't work at all. I was forced to buy PS/2 keyboards & mice and they both work fine after the PCs boot.I don't know what's causing this delay.I've enabled Cool 'n Quiet from BIOS.I've tried several instructions like editing the /etc/modules file.I've installed cpufreqd, tried to configure it, but it didn't work.I've check the CPU stats and my CPUs are running at 800MHz. I can't believe nobody managed to fix the 800MHz problem as I've noticed it's quite common among AMD Ubuntu users. I think I've tried almost anything that I've found on this forum.I can't keep asking my employees not to reboot their PCs. Both Chrome/Firefox crash a lot on Ubuntu so they're forced to restart their computers.The computer specs are: AMD Athlon II X2 240 dual-core @ 2.800MHz, 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, etc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat used to work flawlessly in F14 now does not work in F15. I have done a fresh installation of F15 and all seemed to go well other than a few minor tweaks. In F14 I had an /etc/fstab file that worked well but in F15 does not work. I have 3 external USB drives, mybook, black & StoreIt. With F14 my fstab worked very well and booted regardless of weather or not any particular drive was connected at any given time. Typically I have the mybook and black connected at home and the StoreIt connected at work, but regardless it would boot and work without any problems.

It takes me a while to log in the splash screen just sits there for ages before i get to the desktop. Never used to be this slow and I'm not sure why. Firstly, I'm running Ubuntu 11.04, standard DE. I do have conky starting up in a script but it has the & at the end of the line so I didn't think this would cause it (or is there some special case for log in time on how & is treated?). However as a test I will comment out the line in the script and see if it is the cause.
However just for general knowledge and in case that isn't the problem, how does one go seeing what is happening during the time from when one log's in and the desktop is displayed? Is there some kind of log that shows the date/time that can be enabled or is there a debug mode that can be enabled somehow via special keys or maybe from grub?
I am using Debian linux. I have 100 timers running. If a timer expired which will generate a signal and it was mapped to a same function handler. All the timers are mapped to one function handler. The problem is if the timer expires one at a time, the function handler called at a time. But if the 2 timers expires at a time, the function handler is called one time only instead 2 times. Is it possible to invoke the function handler as many times based on timer expirary happens simultaneoulsy?

But the last about 6 weeks the system time only in Ubuntu is going slow. About -8 per 24 hours! I can only guess because I have more things running in my Windows 7 and Ubuntu.
