Fedora Hardware :: Chat Programs Work With Webcams In Yahoo?
Apr 19, 2011
What fedora chat programs work with webcams in yahoo? The unofficial faq said empathy was a light chat program, but 140m were installed. Is that the right amount for empathy chat? What other webcam chat programs can be used with fedora?
I have it installed on a HP mini 1010NR It worked great once I got help to figure out how to make my wifi work. Now I am trying to find the best program to use to chat and view webcams on yahoo I used gyache at first but got sick of it gliching and booting me telling me people were online when they were not. So I tried Kopete and like it but cant get the webcam to work every thing works just fine I cant send invites and cant receive images. At first I was getting an error message telling me to go to a nonexistent site for help. Now it just tells me No "webcam image received" and just strait up does not send invites. I am trying to get this to work or be directed to a better program that meets my needs and how to set it up.
i know that using pidgin software, i can use yahoo chat...but i can chat only with my contact friends (those, whose email id is in my contact list)how to use chat room for chat ?is it any other software(similar to pidgin) which supports chat room ?
i had googled a lot n come to know that i need to block dnslookups for these urls httpcs.msg.yahoo.com and webcs.msg.yahoo.com and these should return 127.0.0.1. i havent have DNS configured so tried by making an entry in etc hosts filebut unforunately it didnt worked
I have Ubuntu 9.10 trying to get yahoo voice chat to work. Thing I have tried is Gyache now everything works but I cant talk. I can hear but not talk. When I hit the talk button the program goes grey. I have wine installed with Yahelite but when I open up YahVox I get the box open and no one is in there. Ycabby does not work for so I download the three cabs and extracted the files and copped the files to the system32 folder. I tried to the mighty google but I get a whole lot of nothingness.
I want to block yahoo mail chat in dansguardian. I had google few thing I come to know that I need to do this. Locking DNS lookups to webcs.msg.yahoo and httpcs.msg.yahoo by returning 127.0.0.1. I haven't have dns configured. So what I need to do solve this problem. I had tried by making an entry in etc hosts file. but it didn't worked.
I wonder if someone might be able to help with a webcam problem I'm having (or point me in the direction of a previous thread on the subject?). I'm trying Xubuntu on my wife's elderly Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop. It's working beautifully for the most part. But I've tried two different usb webcams, both of which are recognized by Cheese but don't work in Skype.
In Skype, what happens is that Skype is aware that a webcam is present. It does NOT say "no webcam detected". But in Skype Options, when I visit the Options for "Video Devices", and click on the "Test" button to test the webcam, nothing happens at all.
And when I make a test video call to a friend, with video turned on, all the friend sees is a black screen where the image should be, and a little turning symbol presumably to indicate "please wait for image to appear". It never appears.
Is there a way to get Evolution to check mail and chat with a standard Yahoo (or Hotmail for that fact) account, without having to pay for the plus service?
I am brand new to Linux (Ubuntu 10.10 is what I use), and always used Yahoo Messenger back when I had Windows. Why are there no programs that allow for Voice calls to individual users? (not chat rooms, as I greatly despise them, but calls from one user to another) I was told Gyachi has that, but everything I tried does not work. Pidgin doesn't allow for voice chatting either, and the only version of Yahoo messenger that is available for Unix is extremely old and outdated.
ignore powertop's recommendation. After searching around the web, that message about how to enable autosuspend is very out of date. This thread discusses the history of the powertop suggestion, and discusses using the driver or udev to autosuspend an eeepc webcam. It also includes this nugget:
Quote: In the mean time - the thread I linked to includes a helpful note from Xandros. They measured that enabling the camera on the 901 model cost ~3% of overall power. So autosuspending the camera won't extend your battery life that much, but every little bit helps. This page describes the user interface for dynamic power management in a device's sysfs directory. This caveat and another note from that page should be considered: 214For this reason, by default the kernel disables autosuspend (the 215power/level attribute is initialized to "on") for all devices other 216than hubs. Hubs, at least, appear to be reasonably well-behaved in 217this regard.
I've got an old laptop with F15 installed. I want to use it together with two usb-webcams to monitor my wood boiler in the basement. And I want to stream it via http. I tried zoneminder and it didn't found my cheap cams. I tried vlc but it didn't work that well. Are there any other options to put out the streams on a webpage? Want to use it for video conferences and will buy it if i can get yahoo video messanger to run on it. what is the easiest way to do this? is there a yahoo video version that is already compatible with ubuntu? or should i just emulate it through Wine? is it possible to run it through Wine? IF i cant get yahoo video messenger to work i will have to put windows on it to sell it....
Some of my programs don't start or don't work! For example, when I click on MultiGet, don't starts or when I want open a file with blebder, it does crash and when I want to save a file, it does crash! I use f14 and my laptop is inspiron-dell 1564 with intel VGA and the lastest updates are installed on my laptop.
I have programs that work in FC10 and FC12, but when I run them on FC11, i get behaviour that is very similar to a deadlock. They don't crash or anything. It just seems that all program output stops at one point and never resumes. I am wondering if FC11 has any known threading issues that one may need to know about before trying to use it to run their software from FC10 or FC12. Maybe something in the way that threading is handled differently from FC10 or FC12 that is not necessarily a problem, but just needs to be kept in mind when writing code for FC11.
I just upgraded my 11.4 firefox and flash to get rid of an apparent flash problem. Before the packman online upgrade, the event pulldown on yahoo finance didn't work. It behaves the same after the upgrade. I noticed on this site, I couldn't click the cursor into the simple search window. So from openSuse, firefox is third party, adobe is fourth party and yahoo is fifth party. Who owns this problem? The rest of my system is KDE 4.6.0 on HW 686 - 32 bit.
Today I wanted to make my webcam work in a flash chat. I added myself to the video group and added export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so to my ~/.basrc file Then I loggued in again... and the problem is:
If I open a shell and start firefox from there (as a regular user), webcam will work ok. If I start Firefox from the top bar, it will NOT work. I checked preferences and it does not seem to do anything weird anybody has a clue? It seems weird to have that pretty top toolbar and not be able to use it.
Ladies and Gents, I am new on this forum. I have installed Ubuntu on my box and have been using it for over 2 weeks now. I have been trying to setup G-mail chat or Facebook chat and it just keeps on saying "connecting - Disconnecting" without anything happening.
i am selling my dell mini 10v to a guy on craigslist he sayshe want to use it for video conferences and will buy it if i can get yahoo video messanger to run on it. what is the easiest way to do this? is there a yahoo video version that is already compatible with ubuntu? or should i just emulate it through Wine? is it possible to run it through Wine?IF i cant get yahoo video messenger to work i will have to put windows on it to sell it....please dont let me do this.....
I would like to be able to use Yahoo Messenger in Fedora 13. Has anyone been able to do this. BTW. Fedora 13 is the best OS yet. I only needs a couple more programs to really rock.
1: A DVD Player 2: A MP3 Player
I would use it as my main OS if I could watch DVDs and play MP3s
Would it be possible for a video chat service to work between computers running Ubuntu 10.04/10.10 on the same LAN, but necessarily with an internet connection? Computer #1 wants to video chat with Computer #2 in the next room, part of the same network, but this network has no access to outside internet...
My wife use to look at this webcam using the Opera web browser, setting it to reload each 2 seconds or each second or so. However, she'd like to be able to watch the link in a minimal window without having to start the web browser. Anyone know of such a program? The program is supposed to open the link as an image and update it every second or so. It should be "ultra light" and have a minimal user interface.
Another option would be to view the webcam directly on the desktop instead of only having a picture there. Is that possible? What additional software does she need for that? She has compiz fusion installed, if that matters. She has Ubuntu 9.04 on one computer and Ubuntu 9.10 on the other one. If you click at the link above and it's completely black (except for some text and some logos), it's probably because it's night (Swedish time) and they turned off the lights.
