Fedora Hardware :: Sound Options Lost On Reboot

Jun 7, 2010

I have the following problem:

After I installed the new Fedora 13, all went well without problems.

Unfortunately, the sound settings are not retained. That means after a reboot, I have to set this again and again.

I have an: HD 5.1 Intel OnBoard Sound Card. I run "gmix" or "kmix", the rear wheels boxes are always "mute". I put on this, but after the restart the setting are lost.

The PulseAudio settings are set to 5.1 Digital Sound.

What can I do to go the the settings are not lost?

Fedora :: Logout And Cancel Are Only Options In KDE Menu / Lost Ability To Do A Shutdown Or Restart?

Dec 16, 2008

I have lost my ability in KDE Menus to do a shutdown or restart. My only option is to logoff or cancel. This started occurring about 2 weeks ago, possibly 2 KDE workspace updates ago. I have been assuming it would get fixed with an update but so far it has not.

I am running Fedora 10 x86_64, kernel = 2.6.27.7-134.fc10.x86_64, and the KDE version is:

kde-filesystem.noarch 4-20.fc10 installed
kde-settings.noarch 4.1-4.20081031svn.fc10 installed
kde-settings-kdm.noarch 4.1-4.20081031svn.fc10 installed
code....

I have 3 different systems all running the same OS and KDE versions and it is happening on all 3 systems. All systems have the "Offer Shutdown Options" selected in Session Manager. I have even turned this option off, rebooted, and then back on to try to jumpstart it but that did not work.

Additionally, I have tried deleting the contents of the /tmp directory while in single-user mode and also the .kde under my home directory. This made no difference.

Another symptom I am noticing is that any desktop widgets that I create all get moved to the upper left-hand corner of the display whenever I reboot and log back in. Any extra shortcut widgets that I add to the panel are also gone the next time I log in.

Again, these same symptoms are occurring on 3 different machines.

These symptom do not occur after a fresh install of FC 10. It is breaking during one of the yum updates but I have not narrowed it down yet as to which update is causing this to happen.

Fedora Networking :: DNS Lost After Every Reboot?

I have entered my primary and secondary DNS addresses through Network Configuration tool (system-config-network). But whenever I reboot the system it loses the DNS addresses. Following another thread, I tried changing the PEERDNS=no in ifcfg-wlan0; but it didn't work. I also put both DNS addresses in the ifcfg file, but that didn't work either.Does anyone know a solution to this?$ uname -aLinux fedoralinux 2.6.27.15-170.2.24.fc10.i686 #1 SMP Wed Feb 11 23:58:12 EST 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Fedora :: Advanced Sound Options - Raise The Volume With My Keyboard

Feb 2, 2010

There was an advanced sound option in Fedora 11. I need those advanced sound options, because I can raise the volume on it. That which is greater than what I can go on 12. If I try to raise the volume in the sound preferences on 12. I get a static kind of sound. And it seems to have a lock at 100% when I try to raise the volume with my keyboard. Instead of whatever I can get when I raise it in preferences which is like 150% (I don't know the acutal perfentage)

Fedora :: F11 On Inspiron 6000 - Sound Lost Since Update

Jul 25, 2009

In the last week or 2 I've noticed something odd with the audio - but as I don't use the it very much and also accept all the ongoing updates from Fedora. Anyway symptoms are (using ALSA):

1. Volume control button on the laptop - when decreasing to less than ~50% the sound goes to zero.
2. Watching flash movies (in Firefox 3.5.1, Adobe 10 plug-in) (e.g. BBC, .....): they play fine for a few seconds then go choppy (audio and video) then video recovers but sound is lost (and the laptop volume control does not work at all after that).
3. Finding similar problems on replay of audio with kplayer and vlc on music files (ogg) that previously worked fine.

I've seen the pulseaudio and vlc fix thread but I don't use pulseaudio in kplayer, for example.

Fedora :: F14 Upgrade - Lost Audio On One Of Sound Cards

Nov 17, 2010

I have just upgraded to Fedora 14, with some hope that a F13 kernel crash issue would be resolved. Alas, not, and I have lost audio in one of my sound cards. I am using 2 sound cards in my computer. The first one (VT 1708 on the M2V MX SE motherboard) is used for FLDIGI (ham radio program). The other one (Creative Labs SB Live!) is tied to a speaker/microphone. At some point in mid 2010, I started getting kernel crash reports (not sure which kernel version this started), and the VIA VT 1708 audio controller stopped working. The SB Live! card works fine.

From mesg, I get:
[9.181148] WARNING: at drivers/pci/pci.c:105 pci_ioremap_bar+0x2c/0x5b()
[9.181186] [<c05c36ad>] ? pci_ioremap_bar+0x2c/0x5b
[9.181194] [<c05c36ad>] pci_ioremap_bar+0x2c/0x5b
[9.181299] ALSA sound/pci/hda/hda_intel.c:2510: ioremap error

I've just pulled out the SB LIVE! card to see if it is causing the VT 1708 controller to fail...there appears to be no interaction.

From lspci -v, I get:
20:01.0 Audio device: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT1708/A [Azalia HDAC] (VIA High Definition Audio Controller) (rev 10)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 8290
Flags: fast devsel, IRQ 17
Memory at <ignored> (64-bit, non-prefetchable)
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

So it seems to know it's there. How to get my sound back (and get rid of this kernel crash every time I start my computer)?

Ubuntu :: Minimal Install W/LXDE Lost Shutdown / Restart Options

Sep 4, 2010

I'm working on getting a stripped down Ubuntu Lucid installed on an old POS HP PC for a friend. Because it only has 256 MB RAM, I used a minimal CD and the installed lxde as the GUI.Today I was working on it and installed the latest updates and Openoffice-Writer. After rebooting, the shutdown button only gives me Hibernate, Log Out and Cancel. I lost Shut Down and Restart. Searching w/Google shows solutions for other distros such as Arch and Mint, but none that worked for Ubuntu w/LXDE. Either the files to edit don't exist, the groups don't exist (one site said to add the user to the "power" group, no such thing in 'buntu) or the options don't exist (such as System->Administration, which isn't in the menu at all).

HAL and dbus are running, which was the other thing some sites mentioned. So, how do I get the shutdown and restart buttons back? The people that will be getting this machine aren't going to know how to go to a terminal and type "sudo shutdown -h now" everytime they want to shut down.I know the buttons existed before installing the latest updates.

Maybe it's just an Amarok2 problem, but whenever another app (for example Konversation) plays a sound file, the audio instantly cuts out (in Amarok2) and will not come back unless I quit Amarok2 and restart it.

Amarok2 has only the options - "HDA ATI SB VT 1708S Analog" or "PulseAudio" (which is NOT installed).

alsa-info here - [URL]

Also I am totally confused by the mixer, it has so many knobs that I am totally lost!

Ubuntu :: Settings Lost After Each Reboot?

May 16, 2010

I installed Kubuntu on my Toshiba A135 with no problems at all...everything works: sound, wifi, LAN, etc...BUT whenever I reboot/restart the computer my Display and Audio settings revert back to default, and it doesn't happen when I log out, just when I restart/shutdown the computer. I have an Intel 945GM chipset and I have set my external Acer 23" monitor as the default and only monitor with a resolution of 1920x1080@60Hz using KDE's System Settings...And I chose to disable the laptop's internal monitor...but whenever I restart, the display returns to a 1024x800 cloned resolution (the default one)...which by the way looks hideous on a 23" monitor. And also the sound mixer goes back to the default levels.

So, can anyone help me out? I've been using Ubuntu for over 3 years and I've never had any problems like this one. I have just fell in love with Kubuntu, it looks and runs great, but this problem/bug is keeping me from being comfortable with it... I've been reading some things about XRandr and some commands and stuff and nothing have worked until now. I wonder, is it a common bug in Kubuntu or maybe an erroneous setting in the session manager....?

CentOS 5 :: IP Configuration Lost After Reboot / Get That Back?

Sep 16, 2009

Google brought me no love on this one, tried searching here with little luck as well. So I'm hoping somebody vastly more experienced than I can shed some light on my plight.

The situation:
I have a CentOS 5.3 x64 server running the latest cPanel which works fantastic. I issued a graceful reboot and the server came back up (according to the DC) just fine to a login prompt. Apparently the system lost all of its IP address configuration. Primary IP, secondary IP's gateway, you name it and it was gone. Now my secondary IP's were showing in cPanel after I had the DC re-enter my main IP address/gateway. But listed as not active due to the fact that they were not anywhere to be attached to the interface. i.e. eth0:1 eth0:2 etc and so on.

I have no idea where to begin looking for this problem and am afraid to reboot it again (at least until I get my lantronix spider up there). I've never experienced this with any of my other CentOS/cPanel servers either. All similar configurations CentOS 5.3 x64, latest cPanel as well. My hardware is all Supermicro gear as well and has been solid in the past.

Maybe I'm just missing something, granted I've only been managing Linux based servers for about two years now. This is actually the first real problem I've ran into on any Linux distro, they are normally pretty solid. So I assume it's a configuration error on my part somewhere.
