Fedora Hardware :: Intel GMA Problem

I have a problem w/ intel GMA video on a Core-i7.
Here's the thing... I have no laptop LCD. The LVDS screen is NOT available to me, but the port is still detected by Fedora and it thinks there is a screen there.. All I have is CRT port.
when I install (Fedora 13) I need to have the CRT be the primary display. Ie. it should get the panels, etc.
When I do an install to this hardware Fedora boots up and still wants to use the LVDS as the primary. What I am left with is the secondary port with no menu available. Right click give me no option to bring up a terminal to do anything at the command line, and CTRL-Fx probably does cycle though the vailable sessions, but I can't see them as they are cyc;ed in the primary display device.
During install, the Live CD give me the ability to right click, bring up a terminal, run "kcmshell display" and disable LVDS. However, once I install I cannot get bck to set this. Now I can boot the LiveOS again and get back to the installed HDD, but can't figure what I need to set where to make this stick with the next boot of the HDD.

! I'm thinking of buying a corei5-660 on a motherboard with an Intel H55 Express Chipset. Does anyone know if it's fully compatible with OpenSUSE 11.3? I mean video (that comes from the processor, not an off-board PCI), audio (HD Audio), networking (Intel� 82578DC Gigabit), SATA Controller, USB, etc. I've tried to google but didn't find much info so I wonder if anyone is using or knows where I can find more info about it...
I have found this thread on the forums about the H55 chipset: Core i3 Intel Clarkdale graphic controller problem But the problems were facing on 11.2, I don't know about 11.3...

I've installed Suse linux 11.3 (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.5) on my brand new computer HP all in one 5130. Everything worked incredibly well : Wifi, wireless keyboard and mouse, sound, webcam.. There is only one remaining issue : I get a very poor resolution (1280x1024) instead of the 1920x1080 allowed by the screen. The graphic card is an intel chipset (HD graphics) integrated to an intel core i3 CPU. Here is (part of) the X11.org log :

Are Intel wireless cards compatible with non-intel-based laptops? In my case I wish to upgrade the current Atheros-based mini pci express wifi card with the Intel 4965agn. It is an Asus 4520 with an AMD Athlon X2 processor and nvidia nForce chipset.

I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 lts server on my Intel "fakeraid" (software raid) (2x250 sata).To test my RAID 1 I turned off one HD and start the system.The first screen (Intel software screen) show Status = Degraded, but the system starts normally with just one HD.Then I turned off the system and turned on the HD again, so the first screen (Intel software screen) shows Status = Rebuild. If I enter in the software raid panel the folowing message is showed: "Volumes with "Rebuild" status will be rebuilt within the operating system"The system starts normally... but this message status stays permanently even I restart the system again

I've just completed an upgrade from Fedora 8 to 10 to 11. I'm using a Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R/S2 MB with the intel G33/G31 graphics chipset. I've never been able to get a valid xorg.conf file with this card. The monitor is being recognized correctly, but when I go into system-config-display and select intel nothing happens. And when I manually edit xorg.conf, X won't start.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with a X3100 on board. The problem is the performance doesn't really fit my expectations. Compiz works fairly OK, but TuxRacer runs at 25 FPS, Glest runs just terribly slow and there is quite noticeable tearing in videos (MPlayer and Totem). Not to mention 400-600 FPS in glxgears.So far I have only tampered with Xorg (see below, changes marked red).

I just got a new desktop PC with Intel i5 650 Dual Core 3.2GHz 4M Turbo. I would load up the installation cd, once I selected to install the screen would go blank and nothing happens. Centos 5.4 work, but I just want Fedora 12 installed.

Is there way to tweak it in some way so the speed is back, because before F13 World of Goo played perfectly and now in F13 it is playable but not "fluid" as before? Also if it is because of changes in F13 considering graphics what to expect in future, would performance be back?

i previously posted a thread http:[URL].. that was regarding gaming issue, but now i got a bigger issue. i installed Intel 2010Q2 graphics package from [URL].. i first upgraded xorg-x11-server and related packages and installed devel package using yum.. later i compiled and installed kernel 2.6.34 and other packages included on [URL].. i rebooted the system and it showed display driver unknown so, i used system-config-display --reconfig and it detects my mobile 4 intel chipset. and when i reboot, GUI won't load .. when services finish loading screen goes blank and harddisk light blinks at constant intervals and i can't switch from GUI to CUI either using CTRL + ALT + F2 etc [URL].. PS i am able to login into single user and change xorg.conf

I am running F13 64 on my HP G72 Laptop. Everything seems to be working fine with the exception of my microphone. When I go into alsamixer I have to manually select my card HDA Intel G45, however it reverts back to the one named default.
I have saved the settings using "alsactl store" which does indeed lock in the volume levels but doesn't make the Intel card the default.
Kmix is of no use and the alsmixer GUI is terrible.
So my question is how do I make the HDA Intel card default?

Purchased a slightly used T61 Thinkpad via a client of ours at work last week. I've been really happy with it so far, dumped 4GB RAM in it and have Vmware workstation running on it and all is well except the graphics drivers.
According to LSPCI the machine contains the device listed below.

X displays just fine and compiz works out of the box, but I'm only getting around 59 FPS with GLXgears. I do like to play the occasional game and what not, so i'm really hoping to get this increased. I've heard of running Tremulous on this card, so I imagine it can do it.
Is this low for this card?

I recently installed F10 x86_64 on my Lenovo T61 laptop, and while I'm quite pleased with F10, I am having a difficult time with my wireless card. I spent most of yesterday searching for a solution, but none have presented themselves. Scenario: I am trying to connect to a HIDDEN SSID with NO ENCRYPTION (work Wifi, don't ask) using network-manager and its associated applet.
Symptoms: I left-click on NetworkManager, select "Connect to Hidden Wireless Network", enter my information, NetworkManager does a few things, and finally I'm told that NetworkManager cannot connect to my network.

I have a DG41TY which has a "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 integrated graphics subsystem" graphics onboard card connected to a Benq Fp731 (old LCD flat screen).
While installing Fedora 10, screen hung at the first welcome page, only mouse movement, no Ctrl F2-6 terminal access. I then tried vga=vesa (and other 791 787 options), lowres on the grub options. Did not help. Same results. Then I tried text install, installed system-config-display and tried all the steps (inittab to 5) on [URL]. No help, it hangs on the login screen. On system-config-display I tried using Intel Integrated Graphics, did not work. Same results.
I need to try to install using text, then install the [URL] mentioned on [URL]
I dont know how to install a driver on fedora.

This is a general technical question about Symmetric Multiprocessing in relation to the Intel Core i7. (Actually, it's more about Hyperthreading than i7.) My understanding is that Symmetric Multiprocessing means that the operating system treats all processors as identical, and therefore it can assign a new thread to any free processor.
And that i7 appears to the OS as 8 processors, 0 thru 7. But from a performance perspective, the 8 processors are not identical, because each core has 1 execution engine plus the ability to store the state of 2 threads. This is, as far as I understand it, the essence of Intel's Hyperthreading. So each execution engine can quickly switch between 2 threads without bothering the OS, but only one thread at a time actually executes.
Suppose, for example, all processors are idle and the OS assigns one thread to processor 0, then has a second thread to assign. Since all free processors are considered identical, the OS could assign the second thread to any free processor, say 1. The result would be that both threads are competing for the same execution engine, while the other 3 cores remain idle. Is my understanding of SMP correct?
If so, does linux SMP take full advantage of Intel Hyperthreading (which existed also in earlier Intel processors)? That is, does linux SMP assign threads in such a way that it attempts to choose an idle execution engine? I don't know what algorithm SMP actually uses to choose the processor. For example, it could be the first free processor, or any free processor chosen at random.How about Windows? How does it handle the situation?

I have Fedora 11. After my most recent update, I can't log in. Every time I authenticate, the logon window disappears, the screen goes black briefly, and then I am back at the log in window I entirely reinstalled, and then it worked, until I updated to the newest kernel then it didn't work anymore. Update: I now generated a xorg.conf with system-config-display --noui I manually removed and reinstalled xorg-x11-drv-intel with yum. It didn't work. By the way: now the start hangs on "Starting atd: OK" If I specify "vesa" in xorg.conf, then it gets past the point, but display doesn't load properly.

As I understand, Fedora 12 sets up Intel ICH (when set in BIOS) as mdraid instead of dmraid.I would like to setup my 2 SATA hard drives so ultimately my /boot partition is RAID1, my / (ROOT) partition is RAID 1, and my swap is either RAID0, or fstab referencing 2 partitions on 2 of the drives, both set with pri=0 (which supposedly is equivalent to striping of RAID0, performance wise).
Assuming Fedora 12 uses mdraid for my configuration in either instance, am I better of enabling, or disabling the RAID mode in the BIOS? This system is strictly Fedora--no dual booting, no Windows. Any performance gains; reliability benefits between either scenario?It's a Intel P35 motherboard with ICH9R. Storage configuration is either "AHCI" or "RAID"
I ran into some strange issues with dropping drives with the RAID set on in BIOS. When it was set, that gave me two md devices of md126 (RAID0, swap) and 127 (RAID1 split between / and /boot). I think I had md126p1 for the SWAP, and md127p1 for /boot and md127p2 for / Within purely software, i have:
/dev/sda1 RAID
/dev/sda2 swap
/dev/sda3 RAID

I suppose unless the BIOS enabled RAID is supposed to be faster, I'll stick with a purely software route and keep the BIOS set to AHCI.

When I was 12 fedora with graphics acceleration worked well and without problems but now I installed fedora 13 dvd compatible with everything when I installed it and no problem only in go to System> Preferences> Desktop Effects I came with a message.

I upgraded from 13 to 15 using preupgrade, and suddenly I don't have any audio / sound. I tried pavucontrol but it shows no hardware device available; alsamixer do show the hardware, though, as "HDA Intel". I attached alsa-info output. Running lspci I go this as audio device:

im having problems finalizing the installation of fedora 10 on a new ASUS P5E-VM that uses Intel G35 chipset.
1. i think fedora did not recognize the video driver since all the installation was in text mode and i cannot use "init 5" to load a UI
2. i tried to find some drivers (if any1 can recommend a rpm that i can download i will apprichiate it very much) but could not transfer them to the fedora since i could not mount any USB disk on key in the linux i tried using: mount -t vfat /mnt/usb (after mkdir /mnt/usb)
3. i tried to burn the driver but then could not access the dvd...
4. no internet connection yet... but thats because i cannot access my network drives that are on the USB key as well...

I was trying to update the drivers for my wireless card and it no longer works. I have a cisco pcmcia card that I got working to use as a backup, but I would prefer to use my internal card. The card is the Intel Pro 2200BG. Please let me know what information is needed to diagnose and correct this issue. how to set up wireless networks. The technical language is foreign to me. My notebook maybe described as follows:
Make and Model: SONY VAIO FW490
Processor: Intel� Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz)

It came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium but now I have Fedora 11 (w/ Gnome) as the only OS. The router that I am using with an Ethernet cable connected to my laptop is a Netgear 54Mbps Wireless Router WGR614 v7 connected to a Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem. Both worked right out of the box and now I have wired Internet access. RCN is my ISP. I would like to avoid using the Ethernet cable connecting my laptop to the router.
This is what I have done so far:
1. Gone to System>Administration>Network
2. Clicked "New" then chose "Wireless connection" from the list
3. Chose Intel Corp. Wireless WiFi Link 5100 (wlan0) from list. The other option was "Other Wireless Card".
I don't know what to do after this. What should I choose in the windows entitled "Configure Wireless Connection" and "Configure Network Settings" ? I chose Ad-Hoc for mode and entered an SSID name even though I have no explanation for taking these actions. As for the other settings, I simply went with whatever was already selected. At the moment, I lose Internet access when I disconnect the Ethernet cable. I see other wireless networks when I click the network icon on the top right corner of the screen. I don't know how to make my router appear on that list if that's necessary.

I have a problem with my Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 3945ABG, The laptop doesn't have a hardware "turn-on" button for Wireless device, normal "windows shortcut" aren't also working. I couldn't turn it on using Network Configuration, it keeps giving me this message:

i did the right thing and posted this on the mac fedora list, but it seems too few people hang out there and there were no replies at all for quite some time, so i have no other option but to try the general support list.problem:on both fc10 & 11, sound works within a browser e.g. [playing flash such as videos cnn and fox videos etc.problem is, as soon as i play a cd or a dvd, then the sound is completely dead afterwards.somehow dvd's and cds completely disables sound.

Happening right now on a Fedora XII 64 Bit:The latest Fedora kernel update (from today, 2009/12/01 - coming from fedora updates [not update-testing]) destroys my Intel GM45 (= i915 kernel driver) so much that I
1. Have no plymouth dooring booting (just this blue textmode lines on the bottom)
2. Have a completley black KDE screen (only my colorshaded windows shadows appear, if I rightclick into the darkness - with no contents) - that's however a composite effect which strangely enough works (Alt f2 reveals for the 10th of a second the "start application"-window and vanishes)
3. If I change to a tty console (eg.via CTRL ALT F5), in 3 of 5 tries the screen does not manage to change to the new video mode and flickers insanely (switching back betwwen CTRL ALT F1 [x-server] and CTRL ALT F5 [tty] a couple of times helps) which tells me that...
- at least KMS is gone.
- 3D-Compositing is completly messed up resulting in a unusable complete black GUI
However, beside this
4. the KDM login screen appears in its full beauty and so does the "KDE loading" thing. Going back to kernel 2.6.31.5 makes any of this disappear and working nicely (I defaulted this in grub now). The computer is a lenovo thinkpad SL500 (cheap intel dualcore 64Bit CPU) with intel GMA4500 chipgraphics (if its not something with my linux configuration it should affect other similar notebook types too).
I really use fedora on my notebook (right now with kernel 2.6.31.5). My desktop uses a radeon HD 4870 - big bad luck with fedora 12: The radeon driver is not able to show KDE windows the right way (looks really really bad - even with those "experimental" Mesa settings-trick) and the unfree AMD driver does not work under fedoras high X Server version (which may be better this way! ) . So I end up using windows on it, waiting for a decent radeon driver to kickstart a decent 64bit linux (fedora still being first choice as the right compromise between cutting edge and usability)...

I'm running FC12 x64on a Dell PE2950 to host some virtual guests, but FC12 host drops CPU errors (IERR asserted) and reboots whenever CPU utilization jumps above 30-40%. Found mention here from end of 2007 checked /proc/cpuinfo and DO have the 38 bit addressing processorsDoes anyone know if there's a kernel module I can load or am I going to have to custom build a kernel with that module available? What mod is it?
