Oct 24, 2009Narrowed it down to a missing package that was unchecked at install as the sound works fine off the live-cd (which comes with the default packages).

Is it possible to find out with which flags system was build?
Is it possible with what options and flags application was built ( mplayer for example)?
How to set default gcc flags for building packages in fedora?
im using fedora 14 and i have a slow internet connection. i want 2 install some packages from the fedora 14 dvd instead of downloading from internet using add/remove packages. i tried to edit /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo and /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-updates.repo but it dint work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had installed Ubuntu 9.04 yesterday evening and made a dual boot with windows Vista. After installing the Ubuntu i opened update manager and started the updates and after half hour, some of the updates were done but the sound and multimedia package was not installed. Then i played a song and ubuntu asked me to install 2 packages for that and after i made a confirmation to that, it shows that it is unable to install the package.

Before going to sleep I just closed my laptop without shutting down, but the next morning when I unlocked I had no sound. Does anybody see something suspicious in the updated packages?
everytime i use alsamixer command i get only the "Master" volume control, and i see the card its using is "Pulseaudio" so i press f6 to select the sound card and i found that i have "default" and "HDA SIS966" so i wanted to know how can i change that "default" to the HDA SIS966?.i tried pressing f6 and selecting the card but when i close alsamixer and run it again i get the "default" sound card again.
i left some pics, the 1st one is what i get when i run alsamixer, the 2nd is the options i got when i try to change the sound card, and the third is what i get with the card HDA SIS966 which is the one i'm trying to get as my default.
I can not set default sound card for alsa. It detects my sound card and I can play audio with xmms when I config that to use alsa and my intel sound card, but other applications which use default alsa sound card, and also pulse audio, can not play any sound.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have old app that by default is looking for /dev/dsp as an audio device. The source is configured as such and I want to change that so sound will work on current versions of Fedora.
What is the equivalent of /dev/dsp in F15 ?
I think /dev/dsp was the default generic sound device .. ?
Using an external SoundBlaster USB... set as default in Fedora 11's new sound device manager ( neat btw )...works great... except no sound in Firefox / Flash Player.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Fedora (13) for the first time. It's great ! So thanks to all its developers !
I managed to do many tweaks I wanted to, in no small part thanks to this forum, but here's one that eludes me and my google-fu.
I'd like to customize the login screen (if I grokked correctly, that's gdm). I already saw how to change the background or how to enable automatic login, but what I'd like to do is this :
1. Disable that rather annoying "pong" sound when I select a user,
2. Set a default desktop environment. Gnome seems to be the default environment selected in the drop-down menu, but me, I'd like for it to be XFCE.
I have no sound, is it possible to restore the default sound drivers/settings in 10.04?It was work well before except for one issue, I couldn't get mic in for Rosetta Stone using wine. I have followed so many howto's to try and get Rosetta Stone working and then my sound working again.I think this is my main problem I upgraded alsa to "alsa-driver-1.0.23". I could easily be wrong about that assumption though.I have a Dell XPS M1210Ubuntu 10.04 64bitI think this is my sound card, "lspci -v | less"00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)Subsystem: Dell Device 01d7Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11 Memory at efffc000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]Capabilities: <access denied> Kernel modules: snd-hda-intelBut I don't think it is being recognized,

I want hidden files to be hidden, so I open the folder that has the hidden files in it and select View, and untick "Show Hidden Files". However, when I access the folder again the box is ticked and the files are showing. How can I get it to stay hidden permanently?
View 5 Replies View RelatedOn my Lenovo IdeaPad S12, the "Enable wireless" checkbox is always unchecked after startup. After I check it, it automatically connects to the preferred wireless network. Is there a way to ensure that wireless is always enabled after startup? On my other PCs, "enable wireless" remains set properly after startup. It's only on my Lenovo that I have noticed this problem. I have poked through the various network tools to see if there's a preference setting for this, and have not found one.

But ever YUM attempt returns "Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again"
What am I missing here? does this mean the packages don't exist, or do I need to modify something to make them accessible?
Whenever I do sudo apt-get or use the Ubuntu Software Center, I can't download anything because a message comes up saying "Action requires installation of untrusted packages: The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources." I've been trying to download GIMP and Thunderbird, so... I dunno what the problem is.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from 11.2 to 11.4 and the installation/upgrade worked just perfect. I than followed the instructions in the "New User How To/FAQ", "Multimedia and restricted format" post. I was following the instruction in the 11.4 section. I added the additional repositories as explained. I then was on the section where it talks about going into software management and selecting the "Packman" repository and clicking to "switch systems packages" to the versions in this repository (packman). I than click this link and the "warning" screen appears and I am present with conflict resolution after conflict resolution dialog. It just seems that there are some many conflicts, it just seems wrong and I canceled.
The installation/upgrade appears to have worked just fine. My mail is there, audio and dvd play back worked the first try after the upgrade. I am not clear if this is what I should expect or their is something wrong or if I even need to complete this step for a successfully installation.
I've just upgraded 10.4 to 10.10 and everything works fine and looks good but I now have the usual palaver of needing to remove some default packages that have been installed but which I don't want such as Empathy and Evolution. Is there any way to upgrade to a new release without getting all the default software packages?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like to update my version of gsl to 1.15 (it has improved integration routines) Downloading & compiling worked, but I'm hesitant to overwrite the default packages with ones I compiled myself since there's a lot of compilation flags etc I may be getting wrong. On top of that, I need the header files from gsl-devel too to link against, and I'm not sure how that works. (Where to place them etc)Is there any way to use these packages to install on fc14?Should I just compile it myself? And what about the devel headers?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have FC9 and I want to install additional packages from the Fedora DVD. The problem is that I don't have net connectivity.Using rpm would be very cumborsome since it would fail because of dependencies. One method is to note down all the dependencies, and install them with rpm. This may again give a list of dependencies. Something like yum is required which would automatically install the dependecnies also. But for yum to work you require a working (and high speed) net connectivity.
