View 14 RepliesSo about an hour ago I put my computer on standby. For whatever reason I couldn't bring it back so I restarted it. It works fine except now Ubuntu has pushed my display down. This means that the bottom of my tool-bar on the bottom of the screen is cut off, and there's a black bar on the top. I'm using a T.V. screen so there is no way I can manually adjust it. I also plugged my desktop back into an old monitor and it was off-center downward too.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've installed Fedora 12 (KDE version) on VMware workstation running under Windows 7.
I've been able to configure the VMware tools fine up until this point:
Code:
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? After some searching online I deduced I should install all of the latest updates and kernel-devel.
I then nuked the previous VMware tools install and started over with it again, but alas, no directory I try works (i.e. /usr/src/kernels/, /usr/src/kernels/2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686/ and so forth).
I always wanted to get it installed on my old Dell Laptop and Fedora 13 is the first one that has actually worked.
Anyways, I am trying to install:
kernel-devel-2.6.33.3-85
Which I downloaded from:
[URL]
When I double click the file to install, it says:
could not do simulate: Backend will not install a src rpm file
not sure what how to sort out this problem but i am trying to install map server and it errors out because i don not have this header. i get this exact error message configure: checking whether we should include ESRI SDE support... configure: error: "Could not find sdetype.h or libsde.a/libsde.so in /u01/arcgis93sdk/sdeexe93/."
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to install some module which needs to be interated into OS's.
It asks me: "What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? "
I know that I need kernel-devel package and I installed this yum install kernel-devel after that I have this /usr/src/kernels/2.6.32.26-175.fc12.i686/include/
Now when I run configuration it does not work
Does it mean that I need to update the kernel so that it matches to the kernel-devel module available in the net?
I am running a vmware on a 64 bit fedora 9. I have already installed kernel header, but the vmware could not find the kernel header, and ask to input the kernel header path. I added /usr/include to the vmware, it complained not a right kernel header.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI downloaded openssh version openssh-5.1p1-8.fc11.src.rpm.It requires fipscheck-devel.I downloaded fipscheck-devel from the internet and it includes the following :
$ rpm -qlp fipscheck-devel-1.2.0-1.el5.i386.rpm
/usr/include/fipscheck.h
/usr/lib/libfipscheck.so
However it does not inlcude the libfipscheck.so lib. Just a symlink under /usr/lib/$ ls -l
libfipscheck.so -> libfipscheck.so.1.1.0
Where can i download fipscheck-devel that can contain both the header and libfipscheck.so ?
I just had a hard drive failure on my mythtv box that I had been running F14 on. I reinstalled F14 and just got about everything up and running like normal again except that I upgraded the kernel by mistake when I was upgrading everything else to current levels. The problem is that I run a hauppauge pvr150 on this mythtv box, and the code for capturing on this card is broken on the latest kernel version. I have the kernel headers and development files installed for the newest kernel that I can't really use, but I didn't install the kernel headers for the older kernel before the upgrade. Now, I am looking for a way to forcefully install the older kernel development files so that I can compile my the proprietary nvidia drivers against it for my adapter. I downloaded the rpm files from the fedora 14 repository directly. Is there an option for rpm that I can use to force the installation?

I booted up to Fedora today (kernel 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.x86_64) and found that after logging in, my cursor was in the bottom right hand part of the monitor. When I moved the mouse the cursor moved in the right direction but then immediately returned to the bottom right of the screen. When I click the mouse I get the options I would expect to have if the mouse was in the corner and the keyboard also works fine. So right now I can't do anything that requires a mouse since the cursor doesn't like leaving the corner of the screen. I can't even get the updates installed (hoping they might resolve they issue somehow) since I can't click anything.
The only thing that I did before this happened was installed a whole mess of updates and installed nvidia drivers.
I am trying to install VMware on my machine. I have downloaded VMware and I am now trying to configure it. After accepting the EULA, the program states;

I encountered a problem clicking icons at the bottom of programs.An example: I was in Firefox and went to use the 'find' bar at the bottom Firefox application window. However, I couldn't click on it.I could interact with it through keyboard commands, but not by using the mouse. Later that day I tried using Openoffice.org Writer and when I went to click on a toolbar at the bottom of the application window I couldn't choose any of the icons with the mouse... The odd thing is that this only occurs when the bottom of the window is at the lowest point on the screen.(note: I have Avant Window Navigator running, so it isn't literally the bottom of the screen, just the lowest point the window can go.)Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing the problem, or maybe how to fix it---------- Post added at 10:25 PM CDT ---------- Previous post was at 09:42 PM CDT ----I just figured out that AWN is causing the problem. Apparently it's regulating more area than it's supposed to. So it's cutting off interaction with the bottom of the window.

I'm experiencing a strange problem with GNOME Clock on Fedora 13. When the applet is in the bottom panel, and I click on the clock, the popup display appears at the top of the screen rather than at the bottom of the screen (above the bottom panel) as would be expected. Worse, the display appears higher than would be expected had the clock been on the top panel, meaning the display is cutoff (ie, the display goes off the top of the screen). I've tried playing with my .gconf files, and removing and re-adding the GNOME Clock applet, but nothing has worked. I'm not sure if this is a weird quirk particular to my settings, or a more general bug; can readers here check to see if the behavior I've described occurs if the Clock applet is added to the bottom panel?

View 3 Replies View RelatedNo matter how many times I update or install new flash plugins in firefox, I always wind up with 2 versions of the 'Shockwave Flash' plugin. The first is the prevous version of Adobe, the second is the current version of either Adobe, Gnash or Swfdec. I use yum to keep my packages in synch. When a new version of Adobe comes though, it erases the older version of the currently installed plugin, keeps the newer currently installed version, and installs itself as the new version, both versions enabled.
Hope that paragraph makes sense to you, it gave me a headache to write. Further, they must both be enabled for any of them to work, and which ever I use the video is slow, choppy and prone to pausing for no apparent reason. The CPU usage is always pegged to the roof and the sound is often out of synch.
What I'm wondering is whether or not this is the normal situation or if I'm doing something wrong? I've been playing with Ubuntu and have noticed that only one version installs at one time, and the video playback is much better, if still not exactly smooth.

Is it possible to remove the desktop switcher applet from the bottom panel? Or autohide or even delete a panel? That is, is there software I can install to do these things in Gnome 3?
I have an issue with my task bars. My task bar that shows my active applications is on the bottom, the expand is disabled and auto hide is enabled. The task bar that has Applications, System, Places, and so on is on the top with the same preference settings. However every time I restart my system both task bars are at the top.
View 8 Replies View Relatedthere is a way to change the OS boot screen from the blue loading bar at the bottom to something more fancy. For example if you take a look at Oracle Enterprise Linux 6 they have a loading screen that makes an "O" on start up. Note: I am not talking about GRUB, I already know how to change the grub boot screen. If so can someone provide the steps needed to modify the OS loading screen.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know what I did differently before this happens. Now I cannot access files or see icons on the desktop. The "starting file manager" continuously loops in the bottom panel, continuing to load forever. in the system monitor, if I kill the process "gnome panel", it resets itself, then continues the process. Only thing different I did was install that one thing that gives you System->Preferences->Windows by hitting "yum install control-center-extra".
