Installing Debian Testing on a new laptop and wanted to test out KDE4 on this laptop.Somehow I am not able to locate the networkmanager for KDE4 or maybe I missed something?

I find that the new KDE4 notification icon is not very easy to see.The "progress" indication is a microscopic vertical progress bar, that I find very difficult to interpret.OK, it is a minor annoyance, but I do find that I regularly try to use the network on my laptop before the connection has been established.It is also a regression over the icons in 11.1 or before, which were very clear.If people agree with me on this point, I will post a bug, with the aim of getting a clearer icon.

Cannot install updates. Click on icon which says 65 updates available but update manager opens and is blank and frozen .Reboot and same results. apt-get install updates says Unable to locate package updates. Everything has worked perfectly upto now I am running Squeeze.

So far everything seems to be working, I tested the KVM install with virsh -c qemu:///system list and it responded, however, I'm trying to now install the script for generating new vps's python-virtinst but putty is returning this error:

I have some problems to start my dovecot server on Debian 6.0.1 I tried to install it from webmin using "un-used modules" but it was allways the same error: "E: Unable to locate package dovecot-pop3d".
When I tried to install it from console using the commands: apt-get install dovecot-imapd dovecot-pop3d dovecot-common - and there are no problems with dovecot-imapd and dovecot-common, but still the same error with dovecot-pop3d: "E: Unable to locate package dovecot-pop3d".
I did apt-get update ant apt-get upgrade but I'm receiving still the same error when I want to install pop3d.
It's interesting because there were no problems to install and run dovecot server on earlier versions of debian.

I got Squeeze installed and choosed all the options at the installation ste like (web server, mysql server, DNS server) and then I am trying to get VHCS installed on the machine. apt-get install vhcs , is not working for me. I gues I have to add a source address to my sources.list file. All the manuals I've found so far for debian and vhcs is for debian etch or earlier and those sources they given arent working for me. I still get the message where it says "unable to locate package vhcs. What is the source address I can download VHCS?

I'm trying to install Ruby on Rails on an Ubuntu desktop VM. The network connection works ok but I can't seem to get this to work:
sudo apt-get install ruby1.9.2
I want the latest version of Ruby.
Is this because I haven't enabled some repository or something - I dimly recall having to 'enable universe' before now... but can't remember why or how....

I just changed (not upgraded, I made a clean install on a new hard drive) from 9.10 to 10.10 and I have a serious problem. I just can't install new packages. Neither apt-get nor synaptic can find any package. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and trying to install CUDA. Everything is working fine except it looks like some openGL components are missing; when compiling the CUDA code samples I get the error
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lGL I went online and it looked like 'sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-new'
would take care of this but then I get the error from the title of this post, that it can't be found. I'm afraid I'm a poor hand at installing components with Linux .

I have the ndiswrapper util installed on my computer, however, I have been unable to install the corresponding driver from the provided cd. I have a WNA 1100 wireless adapter. I have not been able to locate a mountable .inf file on the cd. Only a "setupt.exe" or a trans.tbl file.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm able to connect to the internet wirelessly with my laptop running kubuntu 10.04 with no additional packages installed. I'm able to setup my connection using the GUI but I'm unable to locate where the configs are stored on the computer.
I thought the configs were stored in /etc/interface but the file never changes. Even after I'm connected, all it shows is
I'm using wpa2 with my wireless router.
The reason I need this is because I'm planning on installing ubuntu server edition and there's no GUI for wireless setup.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI went into Yast and disabled the SYSLOG service, ignoring the warning of which services would be affected, I went ahead anyway and stopped it. Sure enough, a handful of other services stopped as well.Now I have almost recovered the PC from this foolish mistake of mine, the only problem I seem to be stuck with is I am now unable to locate the computer on my LAN by hostname ... does anyone know which service I should restart please (if it helps, the computer can resolve DNS names such as Google.com OK)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday, after installing suggested updates since I last updated a few weeks ago, themes are broken. I am using 10.04 Lucid, now running 2.6.32-24. (Booting the previous kernel did not help.)
After rebooting, I noticed that the login screen had less attractive widgets, which persisted after I logged in. Opening the Appearance Preferences, there were no themes listed. There are a bunch of them in /usr/share/themes. If I copy the Ambiance folder from there to ~/.themes, it will appear in the dialog; but when selected, the Window Border changes, while the Controls do not.
If I run gedit from the shell, I get these messages:

There was no GTK_PATH environment variable. (Where does it and GTK_MODULES get set globally?) I tried setting it to /usr/lib, but that had no effect.
It looks like a problem finding and/or loading the required files? Permissions? Dependencies?
after alot of work with my system, I've gotten most of it working It's a Toshiba C655-S5049 with a Atheros AR9285 Wireless card, so lots of fun getting that to work, anyway I'm trying to update my system, and it wont update, if I try update manager it won't do it because it's dealing with restricted drivers, and if I try in terminal I get E: Unable to locate package updateAnyway, any suggestions?
