Ubuntu Installation :: Remove Pure-ftpd Pure Admin - Getting A 530 Authentication Error

Mar 24, 2011

I am having problems troubleshooting my pure-ftpd setup. I am always getting a 530 authentication error. I attempted to correct the problem by doing the following:

# pure-pw mkdb
# ln -s /etc/pure-ftpd/conf/PureDB /etc/pure-ftpd/auth/PureDB
# gedit /etc/pure-ftpd/conf/PAMAuthentication

[code]....

This create a new error. 421 Unable to read the indexed puredb file (or old format detected) - Try pure-pw mkdb I am getting a feeling this is getting from bad to worse. I attempted to remove pure-ftpd and pureadmin to start over again. However, it appears I cannot remove everything. I attempted the following:

apt-get remove pure-ftpd pureadmin I am not sure what this really does because I can still see the folder /etc/pure-ftpd and I cannot remove it. I could not use rm /etc/pure-ftpd because the system said it was not empty. I also tried sudo aptitude remove pure-ftpd pureadmin . Again I cannot completely remove the folder. How do I completely remove pure-ftpd and pure admin and all databases, files and folders so I have a fresh system ready to start the install again?

Software :: Pure-authd Not Passing Variables To Pure-ftpd

Feb 9, 2011

I have set up pure-authd and pure-ftpd. They are both running, I have created the socket etc.

In my authentication module (a php script) for testing purposes I have done a vardump in to a file, and have realised that pure-authd is not passing on any variables (username, password of the current person trying to log in via ftp) to the PHP script.

I am sure the authentication module is working (have tested it vigorously on the command line), but after 10 hours wondering why it wouldnt work and messing about with the script, I have realised that the variables were never even getting in to the script in the first place!

I am running the processes such as this:

Everything seems as if it is working other than this. For instance, when testing the setup with a very basic auth module which doesnt require a username or password (the basic module just passes "auth_ok:1" to pure-ftpd and the user is then logged in), I can log in to the FTP server fine.

But like I say, a vardump ($argv) on my proper PHP authentication script would suggest that no username or password are being passed to it.

Debian :: Tablet Features For LMDE (Debian Testing), Fujitsu T4310?

Jul 4, 2011

I tend to stay on for long time. My machine is a Fujitsu T4310 tablet. I have got all tablet features previously working properly when I was on Isadora Mint. After installing LMDE to my surprise basic features of the tablet simply worked out of the box but I'm missing a few important features like multitouch, screen rotate and buttons in tablet mode.

As far as my experience with Isadora, it needed a driver called "fjbtndrv", but I couldn't find it in the repos, moreover, I think it might need some tweeks to get it behaving properly. I found some refferences but it refers to other ubuntu based distros, which I can't use of course.

p.s. prefere a solution other than compiling it myself, it looks scary and has lots of dependencies.

Debian Installation :: Upgrading From LMDE To Testing

Apr 22, 2015

I am currently running Linux Mint Debian Edition (1 not the newly released 2). I am going to jump back to Debian testing shortly, and I'd love to avoid a fresh install. Whether I should upgrade to Stable before Testing, or just point the repos to testing and jump. Will it make any difference? If I hit a snag, I'll do the clean install.

Debian :: LMDE-- Ubuntu Packages In The Repository?

Jan 21, 2011

What the hey??? I was looking to install Virtualbox via Synaptic the other day and I found a package with "~Ubuntu~lucid" next to the latest version. I have all confidence in the Mint team and I'm sure they scrutinized these packages for compatibility, but a little disclaimer would have been nice. I do not want any Ubuntu packages on my system. The least they could do was package the source code into a pure .deb.

Debian Installation :: Preserving Partitions Switching From LMDE?

Sep 27, 2014

I'm going to move from Linux Mint (Debian Edition) to Debian on my Laptop (3 user). The current setup is LMDE-Cinnamon, with 4 partitions; /, swap, home and data. All the important data lives in data while home is used for preferences only.

Am I right in thinking that preserving the data partition is as simple as not formatting it during the installation?

And what about home? Obviously this now contains a lot of irrelevant stuff (Cinnamon settings for example) and many programs will be in different versions...
- Just keep it (after all the irrelevant stuff should not do anything bad?)? And if so how do I tell the installer to do this?
- Format and restore the relevant preferences manually from the backup?
- Format and have everybody set up their preferences as needed?

Debian :: Persistent LMDE With Startup Disk Creator On Pendrive?

Jan 21, 2011

I have a 16 GB Sandisk Cruzer Blade USB drive. My aim is to create a portable LMDE operating system. Both for the challenge and to spread the word amongst my friends. Just today, I've converted another mate with an old Dell with stand alone LM9 LTS. On another thread, I recieved a lot of help trying to use GRUB with no real progress other than finding out that needed someone with a lot more knowledge.

viewtopic.php?f=46&t=64335 bear with me for the long description of what I have done so far. I'm trying to avoid us doing things twice. I have used Startup Disk Creator in LM9 to set up my usb. There is still a problem with persistence. Creator uses casper and syslinux to boot. In setup, it gives the option of persistence up to 4 GB file or discard.

The progress window indicates it creates a persistence file. Everything seems to go smoothly to completion and reboot. The boot-up avoids the usual live dvd menu and goes all the way to the live desktop with install Mint shortcut. Change the keyboard to USA Colemak with CapsLock an additional backspace. Reboot the PC, no remove drive and enter request on shutdown, and back to live desktop. No Persistence. Reboot. I go to users and groups and create my own user desktop. Logout of Mint and into my desktop. Change keyboard settings and go to reboot. It wouldn't let me. Needed a root password. Back to the forums to change that. More research tells me that the program creates a seperate ext2 partition labelled casper-rw to generate persistence. Some sites have called it casper.rw Run GParted. dev/sdd- Sandisk 16GB- has a single FAT32 Partition sdd1. No casper-rw ext2 partition. Amongst other things I created the casper-rw and casper.rw partitions to help it along. No effect. I removed the pendrive, and booted up normally. Re-inserted the pendrive to determine the included files.First level-

Programming :: Transform Mm:ss:ff To Mm:ss.ss?

Jul 7, 2011

Bash 3.1.7

I have var1 in a script.

Code:
#!/usr/bin/bash
..........
echo var1
with ouput
08:28:10

The format of var1 is mm:ss:ff where ff are units of 1/75 seconds. In order to make of var1 an argument to the flac command (flac --skip=mm:ss.ss where ss.ss are seconds and decimal fraction) I must trasform mm:ss:ff to mm:ss.ss).

First I must isolate ff and place it in say, var2. And then var3=var2/75. How can I do the part (mm:ss:ff --> ff)? Perhaps some way to specify bash to accept ':' as separator?

Programming :: Best Way To Transform XML Format?

Sep 10, 2010

I'm looking for some expert opinion on sed/script to work out the best way to transform one xml format into another however there are a few complexities around translation.

The extra complexities are to:
1) Take the start and stop time (YYYYMMDDHHMMSS) and convert to start time to unix time plus output the difference in seconds between both times.
2) Oid, tsid and sid are found by looking up an external file and finding the value against the channel. For example one of the lines in the file will be 2:806:27e2=channel1

Is there any way to write piped sed commands that can do this? If not, any ideas how the script should look like?

Input File
Code:
<programme start="20100910060000 +0100" stop="20100910061000 +0100" channel="channel1">
<title lang="en">This is the title</title>
<desc>This is the description</desc>
</programme>
Output File

Code:
<service oid="0002" tsid="0806" sid="27e2">
<event id="0">
<name lang="OFF" string="This is the title"/>
<text lang="OFF" string="This is the description"/>
<time start_time="1284098400" duration="600"/>
</event>
</service>

Look up file for oid, tsid and sid
Code:
2:806:27e2=channel1
2:756:37a3=channel2
5:4a06:42e5=channel3

Aug 23, 2010

So, how can i remove the packages useless for servers in a simple mode? My first idea uses category GROUP of a package, but this not work.

I can, for example, see the packages on System/Daemons, ok, but i can't see a list of groups inside System/ in a easy way.

su
apt-get install devscripts debian-keyring

It all seems to work, however debuild gave an error about secret keys. Is this a sensible procedure? What happens in the (probably unlikely) event there is another source patch?I've gone to a tiling window manager as the result of the purchase of a wide screen LCD monitor. I like to have some stuff down the right hand side when running Firefox and OpenOffice in the main panes. Any configuration tricks welcome. Modern screens are the wrong shape!

- I've made a new user account.

- .gtkrc-2.0 in my home is auto-generated, .gtkrc.mine does not exist.

# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT include "/usr/share/themes/Darklooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" include "/home/haunted/.gtkrc.mine"

- I've tried installing a theme into my /home/.themes.

- I've reinstalled gnome-settings-daemon.

- Tried changing themes then doing a full reboot.

- Cursed it periodically.

Debian :: Installing Command Line Debian Squeeze System On Eee PC 701

May 29, 2011

I have been trying to install a command line Debian Squeeze system on n Eee PC 701., but have run into a number of problems:

1) All install info I can find assumes that the person wants to install a GUI system of some sort.
2) The Eee PC has a unique 2 MB. partition that needs to be preserved, so no guided install.
3) The Eee PC has an SSD instead of an HD. Most postings I have seen recommend an install without a swap partition, but the install (both live and text) seems to choke and despite a fresh formatting of the existing partition, claims to be overwriting existing files.
4) I can understand from the wiki that the Eee PC wireless driver (Atheros) should be included in Squeeze, but when the wireless connection and password is added, the installer claims that the password is not correct, despite me having checked it a number of times.

I hope someone can help me out. I just want to use the Eee PC for low resource stuff done on the cli like using a text based web browser to access the net through a wireless router and to hook it up to an external USB HD and to my stereo, to play my music collection.
