Debian :: Disable/enable Bluetooth With Fn-F5 With Thinkpad R61?

I have just bought a used Lenovo Thinkpad R61. Most of the things works in Squeeze like it did with Vista. But a bit annoying is that when i Vista with the "Fn-F5" could turn both wireless and bluetooth on and off. Now it is only wireless that works that way. On the top panel i can turn both wireless and bluetooth on and off, but it is still annnnoying. Is the a way to make all keys funktion on my Thinkpad?

Everytime gnome starts up, the bluetooth applet has bluetooth enabled. I use it infrequently, so I always change it to disabled, but how do I make this the default setting for the bluetooth applet?

I have problems with a high pitch noise on my lenovo thinkpad t61. Seems that more people have the problem: [URL]... When I stick in my usb mouse, problem is gone. I only have this problem on battery. when posting this rmmod uhci_hcd seems to solve it. How to make that permanent? How do disable bluetooth permanently?

I've got myself a a Filco Majestouch Convertible 2 which is a USB/bluetooth keyboard.
When I use it in USB mode it works perfectly. I would like to use it in bluetooth mode and I've found that it has problems. When I hit either Numlock or Capslock it stops responding.
I'm running Debian Testing and it was last updated a few days ago (02/05/2015). I've tested the keyboard using Ubuntu 14.04 live cd and it worked flawlessly even hitting Numlock & Capslock didn't stop it.
If I run btmon to monitor the keyboard it shows that after I've hit capslock or numlock it still sends signals to the computer. So there is information being sent to the computer but these characters do not make themselves to my application. I'm just testing with a terminal window.

Since last Saturday (11-20) my touchpad enable/disable key stopped working.I don't make much use of the touchpad and it usually stays disabled most of the time so I can't be sure it is really on Saturday that I lost this functionality or maybe the day before (I'm positive it's not longer than that).Before that it worked flawlessly, now it's like a dead key (which is not broken by the way, tested on a live CD).In these past week I have been looking for quite some time for other users who might have experienced this problem after the update of two specific packages (console-data and keyboard-configuration) I had on the 20th and which made me think might have broken the key binding.Not finding anything at all and after having tried for said packages both newer versions from sid and previous known-to-have-worked-before versions from the install CD, I started thinking the problem was not there (I consequently restored the testing ones).
The days before this happened I tinkered a little bit with gpointing-device-settings and tpconfig (this last one was a simple tpconfig -i), but at this point I start thinking there might have been something else I've done, somewhere else I can't recall probably.
Oh, I forgot to mention that the touchpad still works flawlessly, I can enable/disable it through gconf (actually I made two handy shortcut to the "/desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled" value), so it is not an issue of making it work, just the toggle key which on my laptop is a dedicated one (no Fn modifier) and anyway all the other special keys still work fine.I checked gnome-keybinding-properties and there is no action for the touchpad there, but I don't know for sure if there was one before (and I haven't been able to add one). Anyway in gconf I noticed a key in "/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings/touchpad" has the value "XF86TouchpadToggle", not sure if that means the keybinding exists or what.
What more can I add? What I'm here to ask now is some guidance on figuring out what I might have done wrong considering what I was able to tell you, but mostly, considering what I wasn't able to tell you and am not even aware to have done.

I have a computer that runs debian 6, and i want to make a dual boot system where i can boot either with or without desktop. AS default the server will be booting in console (headless) mode (and act as server) but on some occasions i do want to bootup in desktop.
I know starting GDM (in my case the desktop manager) is just a simple task, but i would like to have 2 options in boot menu:
1 - without desktop default (timeout 5 seconds)
2 - with desktop
what would be the correct grub config entries?

Basically what I'm wanting to do is only have one USB keyboard connected active/enabled at any given time. i.e., enable B1D14 and disable B5D2, then enable B5D2 and disable B1D14. I'm actually wanting to enable/disable at the root hub. Something analogous to mount/umount a device instead of a file system.

My laptop has a some multimedia keys for quick access. They are causing a common issue with many HP laptops easily found on the Internet ( volume keeps turning up and down). Apparently the ultimate solution is to simply disable this buttons. On the next page, under the title "Multimedia Keys" it is explained how this QuickPlay buttons had to be enabled to work in Etch. URL....Now, I have installed Jessie, and I do not know if thew were automatically installed or not. But they are causing a very annoying problem. I want to simply disable these "Multimedia keys" so they do not produce any input.

I want to disable mounting usb storage devices except some devices based on its vendor id. I tried by adding below udev rule in debian wheezy

I use this Thinkpad mostly for work while traveling, and wireless connectivity is not a big issue for me. Battery life is a big issue, however. I've just converted from Mandriva. With that, I was able to disable the wireless adapter so that it did nothing at all on boot - and only started on my instruction. This made a dramatic difference to battery life! How to achieve this in Ubuntu? The file attached gives all the info about my wireless set-up as it stands.

I have some issues concerning so called "11-minutes-mode" - RTC update"11-minutes-mode" definition In hwclock man page we can read:"Automatic Hardware Clock Synchronization By the KernelYou should be aware of another way that the Hardware Clock is kept synchronized in some systems. The Linux kernel has a mode wherein it copies the System Time to the Hardware Clock every 11 minutes. This is a good mode to use when you are using something sophisticated like ntp to keep your System Time synchronized. (ntp is a way to keep your System Time synchronized either to a time server somewhere on the network or to a radio clock hooked up to your system. See RFC 1305).
This mode (we'll call it "11 minute mode") is off until something turns it on. The ntp daemon xntpd is one thing that turns it on. You can turn it off by running anything, including hwclock --hctosys, that sets the System Time the old fashioned way. To see if it is on or off, use the command adjtimex --print and look at the value of "status". If the "64" bit of this number (expressed in binary) equal to 0, 11 minute mode is on. Otherwise, it is off. If your system runs with 11 minute mode on, don't use hwclock --adjust or hwclock --hctosys. You'll just make a mess. It is acceptable to use a hwclock --hctosys at startup time to get a reasonable System Time until your system is able to set the System Time from the external source and start 11 minute mode. So I have been trying to connect my Wiimote up to my PC using the following HOWTO: [URL]... I had it working last week and for some reason it has now stopped working. I am using a USB Bluetooth dongle and I am sure that it is still working because I can connect the Wiimote up to my laptop no problem. What I have noticed is that on my Laptop the bluetooth icon is highlighted and on my PC although the Icon is there it is greyed out. When I go to preferences and click on turn on Bluetooth the button greys out for a while and then comes back saying "Turn Bluetooth on" again.

I upgraded from 10.10 yesterday. The Bluetooth is disabled. Even when I click on Blue Tooth on, it doesnot get highlighted or detects the nearby devices. In 10.10 , it worked just fine.

My bluetooth seems to be activated in the system tray when I start the computer, can I disable this?.I do not want my computer to be visible to other computers if you know what I mean.Is it still safe even if the icon shows, Iam a little afraid someone might be able to hack the system this way? how to enable bluetooth on Dell Studio 1535.
From the Fedora 10 to the beginning of the Fedora 11, I was successfully enabling bluetooth device on my Dell laptop by putting hid2hci command as a system startup module:

But the latest hid2hci command in bluez package now displays help information instead of turning on the (default?) bluetooth device:

Now your bluetooth device should be enabled during startup. Only one problem still exists, the state of the bluetooth device will be reset if you will turn it off using the hardware turnoff button. If you will turn it on again, you will be required to enter hid2hci command manually.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook. Even though the bluetooth light is on on the machine itself, the bluetooth icon at the top of the screen has been greyed out. Now, after trying to fix the problem, the icon has disappeared altogether.Before the icon disappeared, while the icon was greyed out, I was unable to enable it. If I clicked on the greyed-out icon, it told me bluetooth was on but disabled.Now I need to know how to get the icon back and to enable bluetooth.

I can send files to my bluetooth mobile phone, but when sending a file from the phone to the PC, the phone issues an error message "Sending failed", and I can not figure out, why. /var/log/messages does not contain any related entries. Do you have any idea where to look for the problem?
I am using KDE. I found many complaints about the same problem, but they all date from 2007-2008, so I guess this is not the same problem.

I've a custom startup script myscript.sh placed inside /etc/init.d/ directory with below lines to disable usb bluetooth device "hci0". This happens on Ubuntu Lucid.

how to disable gstreamer???? (and be able to re-enable it also?) i don't want to totally remove gstreamer - as it is required by alot of software. however, when i am using
proaudio apps with low-latency having gstreamer enabled is a problem. this is because ( i think ) that my crappy intel-hda (STAC9200) only has one sub-device, while many other cards have multiple.
so when gstreamer is there, i will get more xruns, and a nasty message in dmesg, something along the lines of "intel-hda switching to polling mode". overall performance of the card will suck. BUT! if gstreamer is NOT there, i can run low-latency(2ms) with pretty much no xruns(jackd). the only time i get the odd one is if i am switching drum banks in a wine VST.
well, i remove pulseaudio when i install Fedora, gstreamer doesn't work properly after that, you can't use rhythmbox, or anything. but you will get much better latencies and generally the card is very useful. ie: i can manipulate many sounds/samples/synths in realtime, or actually record in ardour with a decent load...

I've downloaded from the Ubuntu software center a touch-pad application that allows me to set some preferences to my touch-pad. So since I rather use a mouse, I've disabled it, the problem is, it only keeps disabled for a few minutes, later it works again. So I want to keep disabled until I enable it again, any suggestions?

I have 4 computers and I currently have 4 USB cradles so every time I want to switch to a new computer I have to unplug the keyboard/mouse dongle and replug it in the appropriate cradle. I would prefer to connect the single dongle to a 4 way USB switch then choose the target computer by remapping 4 of the keys I don't need, for example:
