The same happens with any software but Iv ignored it till now, not having a "modern" browser will make things difficult. I need it explaining simply. View 6 Replies View RelatedI haved tried 3 times to download DVD-7 from http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/...md64/jigdo-dvd, and every time it has failed with just 5 files left to download.
It says:
I cannot begin to describe. All those hours of downloading for nothing! What the heck is happening here? When I try to just continue on, I get error code 3 aborts and have to just start all over.
One one my criteria for client machines is the ability "just work" from a generic business standpoint. By this, I mean any user needs the ability to drop in a jump drive or download that contains MS office formatted stuff, work with it, and save it in the same billie friendly format.
That means OOFFICE, right now. Which NEEDS the GTK libs (I confess I have heard of a QT version, but it's the same dilemma, really)
So, why do I bother with Openbox, XFCE, LXDE, E1[6-7], Blackbox, Fluxbox, etc? All the bloat I'm saving on WMs is rendered superfluous by the monsterbig GTK+ libs for the office suite Why not just give up and run a stripped gnome core?
This is really an open rant, but I'd love to hear if anybody has addressed this problem successfully. I guess I'm craving an opensource suite with Office's power and no bloat (I'd also love to meet st. nicholas, the easter bunny, and that guy who smokes marlboros in 'the x files')
Getting Enemy Territory Quake wars to run in Sid? I have steam working, but I can't get the popular Linux title ETQW to work. First I was getting the typical error when ia32-libs is not installed. So instead I ran "apt-get install libsdl1.2debian:i386" and that seemed to make the game get further in boot instead of the lib error, however then I'm spammed with (to the point I can't scroll up to read the error)
pure virtual method called
terminate called recursively
pure virtual method called
Segmentation fault
so I don't know what to do now, could it be as simple as installing more packages? I've had the game run flawlessly on wheezy before, never had this error before. I am using Sid with an ASUS AMD R7 370, open source driver, and kernel 4.3 same error when i drop to root permissions
I ask question about my iPhone 3GS here because it run in linux too.I think it's Debian.it if u happen to know the answer. I want to keep cache downloaded from Cydia for reinstalling later.

I have a USB which I want to use for a 'live' debian OS. I have debian 7.7 on hard disk and will be using Unetbootin to transfer the .iso file onto the USB.
However, when I go the debian archive there are so many iso files for the particular debian pkg [URL] .... There's iso, iso.contents, iso.log, iso.packages and iso.zsync. Do I download all of these iso files?
I'll be doing a Code: Select allsha256sums <iso-filename> to make sure the downloads aren't corrupted. But when I use Unetbootin and get it to write the main .iso file onto USB, do I then repeat this process with all the other iso files for the OS?
I am still having trouble installing Debian 6.0.1a (Squeeze) from either CD #1 (KDE version) or netinst version. I tried for a few months to install Squeeze with KDE desktop; now I am trying to build a server, which seems easier (no X.org and KDE problems to worry about.)
Part of the problem common to all my failed attempts (about a dozen!) seems to be that the installer tries to get packages or updates/upgrades from repos but for some reason fails.
I have a commercial all-in-one dslmodem/router/firewall which has very, very limited monitoring capabalities, just enough to show that the PC in question contacted the expected repos (I tried several in different regions) and also shows that no DNS requests failed during that time frame. I did try decreasing the security of the commercial firewall, but that seems to make no difference. I did try to save the install logs, but they didn't fit on a floppy. Any idea what could be going wrong?
Can i block on debian that user can not download any files from host via winscp or other SFTP client ?

Recently I tried Google Reader in Konqueror. It said that my browser isn't supported and Google Reader won't work. But it works perfectly.
I wonder if this means that GMail would work if not for their artifical limitation of checking which browser you have? Is there a way to circumvent it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am looking to buy a mp3 player that would be 100% compatible with linux. I recently returned my ipod touch because without going into details, it was a nightmare to get running in linux, it actually wouldn't run. Now that I am free again, I would like recommendations for a mp3 player with roughly the following features:
-100% compatible with linux
-compatible with windows (in case I want to transfer stuff from my gf's laptop)
-can play pretty much all the most popular file formats from linux
-application to convert files so the player can read them (I am thinking about itunes here);
-has FM radio;
-has a decent GUI (no monochrome text only interface like the ipod shuffle (?);
I would think 4GB is enough for me. I am not the kind of person to pack my player with 600GB of stuff and empty it once a year. I will probably add/remove stuff everyday. I also wouldn't mind if it can play podcasts. I also don't mind buying from less known companies. I just need to make sure if it craps out, I can return it or get it repaired within canada.
This is a real newb's question. I can't get to my files on a NAS once I'm in an application.ExampleI have a text/graphic file to open from the NAS. I can see it in Nautilus, and can double-click there to open in OpenOffice/Gedit/Gimp. Once I'm working I want to open another file so in my application I go File > OpenFrom there I can't see the NAS. (Interestingly I can see a locally-connected USB hdd).Do I really have to go through Nautilus every time I want to open something from the NAS?
