Debian :: Installing And Upgrading PhpMyAdmin On A VPS Using Ssh?

Mar 9, 2010

I am trying to install phpMyAdmin using ssh (I use putty to connect to my Virtual Private server from my windows home computer)

I have managed to download the latest phpMyAdmin from sourceforge and I have renamed it to phpMyAdmin.tar.gz

Now I don't know how to install it. I have tried "apt-get install phpMyAdmin.tar.gz" but that gives me:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package phpMyAdmin.tar.gz
So I assume I should not use apt-get

Ubuntu :: Installing LAMP - Cannot Get PHPMyAdmin Working?

Jul 19, 2010

Windows XP Pro, VMware and Kubuntu as the guest. Tried several different ways of adding LAMP server, via the Konsole and also via Synatpic and although I can get into localhost and it says "it works" doesn't actually take me to a list which includes the links to Apache and phpmyadmin like some tuts show. Also if I make the php test page that also works, but I cannot get phpmyadmin to work. When I look in the var/www folder there are only 3 files there and not the apache2 and phpmyadmin folders as shown on a lullabot tutorial.

Debian Configuration :: Phpmyadmin Accessing Mysql On Debian Webserver?

Feb 9, 2011

I have installed debian on my laptop and included during the installation the webserver version. Now I want to develop a page locally to test it before I put it on the web. I first had an old reflex, jumping straight away and installing xampp. But then I thought that I already all that it takes as I installed the webserver feature of debian. I installed phpmyadmin ( with the command #apt-get install phpmyadmin) as to be able to create and attribute databases but when I try to log in I have the following message:

"Error
#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)"

I googled but I cannot find the mysql.conf (I searched using "find") but with no result. It is all very blury what is going on with this webserver option running on my laptop...

Debian :: PhpMyAdmin Installation - Cannot Get To Show Up In Web Browser

Aug 2, 2011

I have apache2, sql, php all installed fine on my debian installation. Initially, I installed phpmyadmin via apt-get install phpmyadmin. However, I wanted to upgrade my version of phpMyAdmin to the latest, so uninstalled and deleted it and used subversion to get a later version of phpMyAdmin. I decompressed the file in etc/ and renamed it to phpmyadmin. So now my working copy is located in /etc/phpmyadmin.

The issue: I cannot get phpmyadmin to show up in my web browser in http://MYIP/phpmyadmin. I used echo Include /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf to get the line in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf, issue is, there IS no apache.conf in the phpmyadmin directory. If I recall correctly, installing phpmyadmin from the debian package has you choose a server before finishing the installation. I obviously did NOT get this prompt as I am installing from source.

Questions: How do I set the server? Is this why /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf is missing? Additionally: I have searched for hours for a solution and found nothing. I tried the phpmyadmin manual installation where you create a conf folder and set the permissions but in the end I could NOT access /phpmyadmin/scripts/setup.php

Ubuntu :: Backup 10.04 Installation (before Installing Or Upgrading)

May 18, 2011

I want to try 11.04 from scratch but Ive been using 10.04 without problems and Id love to have a perfect backup of the whole system before I try the new one and at the same time, transfer my 10.04 configuration to 11.04 (I did some changes using the terminal and input some "magic words" that I dont remember).

Is there any way to do this, or should I just backup my 10.04 (once you tell me how ) and then upgrade to 11.04?.

Is there a difference between installing 11.04 from scratch or upgrading from 10.04 btw?

Some info: I have 10.04 installed thru windows, so I wonder if I can just copy the wubildr and wubildr.mbr files and the ubuntu directory as a backup. That would solve the backup and upgrade problem, but I still would like to know how to do a proper backup.

Software :: Upgrading / Installing OpenSSL 1.0.0d From Source On CentOS 5.5

Jun 26, 2011

I find my self abit stuck upgrading OpenSSL to the latest version. The situation is that i've been running LAMP servers just fine by installing the web services from the repositories AND the web services from source. However im now in the process of making a PCI-DSS compliant server LAMP server. I've just had the vulnerability scan report back and its failed due to the OpenSSL having vulnerabilities and it tells me I must upgraded to version higher 1.0.0d.

I've basically spent hours and hours trying to get this working along with research but I dont seem to be having much luck with this one

Im using a fresh install of CentOS and trying to create a RPM using the source code and rpmbuild, I read this was the best way I read, and this is my first time using rpmbuild.

Code:
yum -y install rpm-build make gcc gcc-c++ perl mlocate
cd /usr/src/
wget http://www.openssl.org/source/openssl-1.0.0d.tar.gz
updatedb
tar -zxf openssl-1.0.0d.tar.gz openssl.spec

Debian :: Upgrading X Stack On Debian Stable?

Jun 6, 2011

I've been setting up a Lenovo Thinkpad T420i and have gotten most of the kinks worked out, except for the fact that the display has some annoying artifacts as you navigate around, I guess due to bad video support. A post [URL].. on the same machine said that upgrading all X packages to sid (unstable) fixed these problems, but those packages aren't available in stable.

I read another post (can't find the link now) that said Debian wasn't planning on backporting all the X packages, only related libraries and modules. And I don't know which ones specifically would fix the issues I'm having.

So I thought I'd ask what my options are. I could update all those to unstable, but that doesn't seem optimal (and in the future I don't want unstable bugs bringing down my whole X session). Is there a way to find out what I need and backport some myself. Or do I just need to wait until the appropriate packages filter down to stable (or at least backports)?

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrading From 10.10 To 11.04 Stops At "installing Upgrades"

May 8, 2011

Been looking on the internet for a similar problem but to no avail.

I'm currently trying to upgrade an old laptop from ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04.
It's been all nice a dandy until I hit the "installing upgrades" part.

There it simply stopped. The bar stops moving and everything.

Opening the terminal I find:

It has been like this for 2 hours.

Ubuntu is the only OS on the laptop.

Debian :: System Upgrading With Apt-get And Aptitude

Code: Select allsudo apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done

The following packages have been kept back:

openjdk-7-jre openjdk-7-jre-headless

The following packages will be upgraded:
  libtiff5
1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded.
Need to get 213 kB of archives.
After this operation, 44.0 kB disk space will be freed.

Code: Select allsudo aptitude safe-upgrade
Resolving dependencies...

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libsctp1{a} lksctp-tools{a}

The following packages will be upgraded:
libtiff5 openjdk-7-jre openjdk-7-jre-headless
3 packages upgraded, 2 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 45.9 MB/45.9 MB of archives. After unpacking 9,130 kB will be used.

What is behind these results? Which method is safer?

Squeeze on my version was LXDE and Wheezy on my version is Gnome gdm3. My Squeeze was loaded with Lilo 22.8 and my Wheezy worked with the regular bootloader. I am just wondering if I use Disk Utility to delete the extension three of Squeeze if it will make both versions unusable.

The upgrade instructions on Debian's website say that apt-get is preferred for doing the upgrade to Squeeze, and also says that apt-get now provides equivalent functionality. So is there any reason to continue to use aptitude after upgrading to Squeeze, and if so, will there be any problems caused by having used apt-get for the upgrade? Or will there be problems caused by switching to apt-get after using aptitude before the upgrade?

Debian :: Updating Libc6 W/o Upgrading?

Etch only offers 2.3.something. The earlier version of GE I have (4.3) does work, but is apparently no longer supported by Google as it fails to connect every time I fire it up. I found Lenny does have the required libc6 version. Can I update the libc6 packages by installing them directly (separately downloaded packages) or do I get the dependency hell that I want to avoid?
