Debian Configuration :: Cannot Open Java Socket - Port (9955) Closed

Feb 26, 2010

I have a java application that I wrote recently. It runs off port 9955. The application runs great on my mac server. When I installed it on my linux box i cant get to it from outside the box. A port scan shows the port as closed. I flushed my iptables, did not help. I can telnet into the app locally, from the server and it works great. I cannot telnet from outside the server. I have a reference to the application in /etc/services as a tcp port (which it is).

netstat shows it as listening
netstat --listen
tcp6 0 0 [::]: SimpleSocketTest [::]:* LISTEN
netstat -anp | grep 9955
tcp6 0 0 ::: 9955 :::* LISTEN 1484/java

General :: Port Just Can't Decide Weather It's Open Or Closed

Feb 18, 2010

I am only getting 4.7kb/s, dispite there being 31 or so Seeders. The port is just opening and closing it seems, I have no idea why though.The port was opened both with firestarter (which isn't supposed to be firewalling ATM) and "sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 6884 -j ACCEPT".It was also opened under the 'Application Sharing' menu of my router.

Programming :: How Could Server Detect Closed Client Socket Using TCP And C++

Aug 6, 2010

Reading some examples on net and copying some codes I was able to build a (frankstein) server that accept connection from one client and receive and send messages to it. The big problem that shows up is that I don't know when client disconnects from my server.

I've been looking for a solution, but no success. I'd read about SO_KEEPALIVE option (which could solve my problem), but I don't know how to use it (how to check the value of it).

I can't use ping because the server (machine) could be running, but not the client (software).

Anyone knows a good tutorial or how to (for beginners like me xD) of TcpIp sockets using c/c++ and how to detect when a client disconnect?

I don't know sockets very well.

Debian Configuration :: Connection Closed By Server With Exitcode 141

Sep 4, 2011

setting up an SFTP server on debian, all the way down through step 3, though I did not "Match Group" I did Match User as I only need 1 user to have access to the SFTP server(did not continue on to step 4 and beyond as they did not apply to me) Im getting the error:

connection closed by server with exitcode 141

I get this when trying to log in via filezilla. I actually only got the 141 error on the first attempt, any attempts after that just says "could not connect to server". Username and password authentication goes through, so it is not a login info issue.Im running Debian squeeze, and that guide was for Lenny, that shouldnt matter, I dont think.

Networking :: MULTICAST Address And Port - Socket Listen Only On Port?

Feb 12, 2009

I make an application on GNU/Linux which listening on a MULTICAST stream, so I open my unconnected socket, bind it on a MULTICAST address and a port, join the multicast group with the "setsockopt (IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP)", then I receive datagram on my socket.

Now I've two different instances of the same application that run with their own MULTICAST address and port. And what I found strange is that, after a misconfiguration, I switch the ports, for example:

Emitting on 225.0.0.1/23451 and 225.0.0.2/23452
Receiving on 225.0.0.1/23452 and 225.0.0.2/23451

And my receiving part doesn't care about the MULTICAST address, it looks like the socket is listening on the port number only! I mean that the receiver [225.0.0.1/23452] take its datagrams from emitter [225.0.0.2/23452] and vice-versa!

From man page of poll we found that the poll should return POLLNVAL if the socket fd is closed, is my understanding correct or is there any bug in the poll()?In Solaris we observed that the poll system call is returning with POLLNVAL if the socket is closed.

Ubuntu Networking :: Port 21 Closed/can't Connect To Server With Ftp

Sep 21, 2010

Wow, don't know why I seem to have so much trouble with this ftp stuff. I have so start all over a few times, reinstalling Lucid Lynx destop all over, and adding the needed files to make it a server. I am just trying to do something simple for now- just having a localhost server environment to develop my joomla website, and later on host it from my server 'out there' (I already have a domain name and dynDNS service with nameservers etc. but don't want to do that yet, as I have in the past with my router forwarding port 80, and actually got hacked! so I don't want to do that again until I learn more about security) My problem right now is that I can't even get the localhost ftp to 'connect to the server'. i know the host name (localhost) and username/password that I set when I set up Lucid Lynx, and I'm sure that is what I use for the ftp usernamepassword, host etc. And I put port 21 for the port. I see from 'Shields Up' that my port 21 is closed. So I followed advice on a thread and entered a few commands in the terminal to ad iptables etc. But still, port 21 is closed and I can't install components with the Joomla installer in admin's backend. And I can't use fireftp to even change permissions in my local folders. What do i do next, open port 21 somehow? I saw a terminal command about opening port 21 that was simple but I forget it.

Programming :: Serial Port Becomes Unreachable After Being Opened And Closed Once?

Sep 22, 2009

I am writing a program to read and write to devices over my serial port. My program will need to connect to up to four other machines at once. I can connect to machines successfully, it works well. However, after I connect and disconnect once, attempting to connect again will cause the FIRST serial connection will fail and all the ones after it will pass.
e.g.

Code:
fd[0]=connect("/dev/ttyS0");
fd[1]=connect("/dev/ttyS1");
fd[2]=connect("/dev/ttyS2");
fd[3]=connect("/dev/ttyS3");
code....

That works as long as it is executed only once in the program. The second time it is executed, fd[0] will die and fd[1-3] will work normally.I can't figure out why this happens, but I found a workaround by connecting to "/dev/null" before any real serial ports.What should I do?

Debian :: Writing Open Source Java Applications?

Feb 13, 2010

I always wanted to get into writing open source applications for debian. The only problem I ever saw was that I do not know C++ which seems to be the popular language to build applications. My expertise is Java and I think that java applications could run on debian just as good as C++ applications. What I do at work is write applications in java for unix systems so I think I porting my skills over to debian would not be a problem. I have not seen any applications in java on debian yet and thought people might have a problem with them. Is there any reason more java applications are not being written on debian? Also does anyone know of hand if there is any orphaned java application for debian. I had a look on this page but it is hard to know what language the application is written in. [URL]

Debian Configuration :: Java Uses High CPU In Jessie

Jun 24, 2015

I have a relative fresh install of jessie in which I face a high cpu usage of java (top shows about 165% CPU and 12% MEM). The problem occurs right after booting the computer. These values stay constantly high for days if I leave the box running. This happens even if the computer is just sitting there without doing anything.

I have to kill java to go back to normal. So, when I do a
Code: Select allkillall -KILL java
the problem goes away. After that it doesn't reappear and I can use all apps installed without a problem.

Currently I am based on openjdk
Code: Select allupdate-alternatives --display java
java - auto mode
  link currently points to /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java
/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java - priority 1071
  slave java.1.gz: /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre/man/man1/java.1.gz
Current 'best' version is '/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java'.

But I have also tried the SUN version with the same result.

Where to look to find more information on what exactly java app is using so much resources and how I can solve it? I guess I could just put somewhere in rc.d a kill java command and forget about it but I would really like to find out whats going on...

Ubuntu :: Port 80 Closed After Upgrade From Hardy Heron To Lucid?

May 24, 2010

I had an install of 8.04 running Tomcat 6 on port 80. I did a marathon upgrade session to 8.10, then 9.04, then 9.10, and finally to 10.04. My website no longer loads (from Internet, LAN, or local), and a port scan shows port 80 is not open. I have removed and reinstalled Tomcat 6, to no avail.

Could it be that the 10.04 upgrade saw an existing Desktop install and locked this port down? The /etc/Tomcat6/server.xml shows it is using port 80, so that much appears to be correctly configured. Before this would give me the ROOT webapp. Anything else I can check? Does this sound like a Tomcat problem or something Ubuntu is doing?

As a side note, I have installed the Tomcat 6 Docs and Manager apps as well. These also worked before the upgrades, and do not now.

Debian :: Make Java Default Application To Open JAR Files

Feb 4, 2016

i cannot seem to find a proper way to make Java my default application to open .jar files. I just made a new Debian 8.3 install on my laptop HP Pavilion G6 and the default application for opening .jar files is the Archive Manager. But when i go to "Open with.." section on right-clicking the .jar file, i get no JRE or JDK option to choose. I just installed the openjdk 7. I can manually run them from the bash, but it would be much more convenient if i just double-clicked it. Here is what i get when i run several commands in the bash :

1) which java ->Code: Select all /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/bin/java
2) java -version -> Code: Select alljava version "1.7.0_95"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.6.4) (7u95-2.6.4-1~deb8u1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.95-b01, mixed mode)
3) echo $PATH: Code: Select all/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/bin:/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.7.0-openjdk-amd64/bin: /usr/local/ sbin:/usr/local/bin:/ usr/ sbin:/usr/bin:/ sbin:/bin
4) javac -version : Code: Select alljavac 1.7.0_95
