CentOS 5 :: 5.3>5.4 Update Gave New CentOS-Base.repo.rpmnew?

Oct 22, 2009

Just checking to be sure. 5.3>5.4 update went without a hitch:) But a message ran about (/etc/yum.repo.d) CentOS-Base.repo.rpmnew. Comparing CentOS-Base.repo with the new one show the 1st has the correct priorities and .rpmnew does not have the correct priorities. Should I remove the *.rpmnew repo after making sure it otherwise is the same as the original CentOS-Base.repo?

Debian Configuration :: Openoffice.org Base Crashes?

Incorrect library ABI version detected.  Aborting.

I haven't a clue as to how to fix this one. A web search finds a Debian bug that a couple years+ old. The bug has since been resolved. It crashes if run as root too

Debian Configuration :: Lost IPV4 After Removing Sendmail Base

Dec 28, 2015

Had an issue on one of my Debian stable servers the other day. After doing apt-get upgrade I was prompted to do autotoremove.

It wanted to autotremove

Code: Select allStart-Date: 2015-12-21  16:25:05
Commandline: apt-get autoremove
Remove: sendmail-cf:amd64 (8.14.4-8), exim4-config:amd64 (4.84-8), sendmail-base:amd64 (8.14.4-8)
End-Date: 2015-12-21  16:25:07

After doing this I rebooted my server (a few days later). After rebooting I had no ipv4. I tried statically assigning IP addresses to no avail. Ran ifconfig eth0 down/up which got me nowhere. Eventually decided to ask "Okay, what changed". Started installing packages that were autoremoved. Had to install from the apt cache using dpkg. First one I tried was sendmail-base. Then did ifconfig eth0 down/up, which gave me networking back.

I have checked the dependencies for sendmail-base and I see nothing that would relate to networking, so I'm really confused on why this happened. I had backups of the server so I went a week back and noticed sendmail-base was installed at that time. So I went a day back, where sendmail-base wasn't installed, and installed it. Sure enough it brought back networking. I'm just stating this because it is more proof that sendmail-base was the missing component.

CentOS 5 :: Duplicate Rpms In Base And Updates?

Jun 29, 2010

There appears to be three rpms duplicated between the base repo and the updates repo:

gnome-python2-gtkhtml2-2.14.2-6.el5.x86_64.rpm
gnome-python2-extras-2.14.2-6.el5.x86_64.rpm
gnome-python2-libegg-2.14.2-6.el5.x86_64.rpm

This causes a big problem for Spacewalk as the packages are non-unique among channels.

I'm assuming these should be in base but not updates? Can they be removed to address this issue?

CentOS 5 :: Adding OOo Base To Office Installation?

Oct 16, 2010

My installed version of Open Office on my Centos 5 box, (3.1.1 OOO310m19 Build 9420) did not have the database component installed. No problem I thought and went to System>Add/Remove software and after logging in as root searched for it. All straight forward and simple. But two packages are listed as available. The package detail for both is identical so which one or both should I install? They are:

1. openoffice.org-base-3.1.1-19.5.el5.i386
2. openoffice.org-base-3.1.1-19.5.el5_5.1.i386

I have tried 'Googling' for both but none of the information availabe, and there is masses, seems offer any clear suggestions of which way to proceed. The first seems to be a bug release but bearing in mind that the pakage detail is identical to the second I am not so sure.

Server :: Sendmail M4 Configuration Base Directory /usr/share/sendmail-cf Was Not Found

Nov 1, 2010

I am using webmin for my daily tasks. I have fedora 13, whenever I click on ''Sendmail M4 Configuration'' or Outgoing Addresses (generics)'' I get the following error message

Quote:

The Sendmail M4 configuration base directory /usr/share/sendmail-cf was not found on your system, or is not the correct directory. Maybe it has not been installed (common for packaged installs of Sendmail), or the module config is incorrect. I read documentation at sendmail.org, it seems that structure of directories for send mail has been changed in version sendmail-8.1.4 shipped with FC13. In webmin config module we have

Quote:

Sendmail M4 base directory = /usr/share/sendmail-cf

which is not there. I did a locate / sendmail-cf on the command line, it finds nothing

CentOS 5 :: Creating Local CentOS 5.4 Repository For Internal Upgrades Only?

I am installing a cluster which is hidden from the rest of the world and there is no router either froma general login node. I would therefore require a local repository of the updates to CentOS5.4. When I checked I only found instructions for a full mirror. As I have no room and neither the human resources to setup and maintain a full-blown mirror, this is not a solution. However if I try to find updates for 5.4 to download in a repository-type of way I fail to find a solution. Maybe I am just not looking in the right places.

Fedora :: Repository Configuration For Older Releases

May 10, 2009

June 12, 2011. It appears that quite a few of the alternative repositories that I've suggested in the posts below are no longer functional. Rather than flog a dead horse I'm closing this thread and strongly suggest that you use a supported release of Fedora. The Fedora releases here, Fedora Core 1 through Fedora 12, are no longer supported or maintained, so they do not receive bug fixes or security updates. We do not recommend using these releases any more. I've spent the last day or so installing every Fedora release since Fedora Core 1, excluding Fedora 11, on a computer I had laying around. My goal was to figure out how to get yum to work despite the fact that the stock repositories are long gone in most cases.

I was motivated by the fact that the yum questions are never ending here at Fedora Forum and the question of how to make yum work for these older versions of Fedora seem to be quite common. The usual response is to install the newest and greatest Fedora. That's fine, but there are cases where this is just not possible. I'll outline separately what I've done for each release. You will only get one update, however, you should be able to install any software that is available through these repositories. You could consider adding other repositories if you need additional software.

Debian Configuration :: Error In Opera Update From Repository

I've got Opera for Linux on my Debian Lenny system, installed by adding their repository to my APT config, and it works great. Just recently there was an update. When I downloaded it, it could not install because the signature could not be verified.

Why would that happen now when I already had the repository correctly setup in my apt files? I tried re-installing the key and that didn't change anything. Is there a problem with a public key server somewhere?
