Applications :: Upgrade Wiped Evolution Settings - Restore Addressbook

Jun 17, 2010

An upgrade wiped my Evolution settings, and then my backup hard drive failed spectacularly. I have the Addressbook.db file but nothing else from the original setup. I am OK with losing the emails because they are all on line. But, can I "reinstall" the original address book into the now recovered and upgraded Evolution programme? I tried to just copy the .db file into the .evolution folder, replacing the addressbook.db file created by installing Evolution but could not see my old address book when I opened Evolution. Am I doing something wrong? Or is it not that simple and I need other files to recreate the address book (I do have the addressbook summary.db file and copied that into Evolution too).

Ubuntu Installation :: Lucid Upgrade: Restore Default Desktop And Font Settings?

May 18, 2010

I upgraded from Karmic to Lucid recently. Before upgrading, I had customized my desktop on Karmic with Compiz, Emerald and new set of fonts. After upgrade (which appears to have gone smoothly, yay!), my desktop retained the previous appearance settings. I want to try the factory default gnome appearance settings for Lucid and still stuck with restoring fonts.

What I have done till now:

0. Enabled Visual Effects from Appearance menu.
1. Theme -> Changed to Human
2. Window Manager -> Still using Compiz
3. Window Decorator -> Switched from Emerald to GTK
4. Font -> Changed first 3 font types in the Font tab to Sans, size 10, 4th to Sans Bold and 5th to Monochrome. Rendering -> subpixel smoothing (LCD)

What I want:

1. Is this the default setting? Have I missed anything in restoring default settings?

2. I have done too many changes to firefox font rendering over time. How do I restore default 10.04 font settings for Firefox? I would ideally love to have an option in Ubuntu which would help me restore factory settings.

Ubuntu :: Upgrade Without Losing All Current Settings And Applications?

Aug 2, 2011

I am still running Ubuntu 10.04 still on my laptop and would like to upgrade. Is there a way to do this without losing all my current settings and applications? I guess I'm mostly trying to avoid having to do a fresh install. Also, is there a way to setup my update manager to just prompt me for an upgrade any time there is a new stable version of Ubuntu available?

OpenSUSE :: Restoring Evolution 2.32.1.2 Settings Into Evolution 2.30

Feb 20, 2011

I have been using Fedora 14, which has Evolution 2.32.1 but have recently also installed openSUSE 11.3, which has Evolution 2.30.1.2. I would like to make openSUSE my primary distribution, and so I would like to restore my Evolution settings from Fedora, but Evolution complains that the backup file is invalid. I have tried copying the folders in the backup to their appropriate locations in openSUSE with no luck. I have also tried manually copying with instructions for older versions of openSUSE, but with no luck.

An obvious guess at what might be the problem seems to be that I am trying to restore settings from a newer version to an older version? An obvious thing to try would be to upgrade to Evolution 2.32, but Evolution has a long list of dependencies so before jumping into that fun I thought I would ask if anyone else has had similar problems and found a straight-forward solution. I still have access to my emails in Fedora so this is not hugely pressing, and if upgrading to 11.4 will do the trick then I can just wait for that.

Fedora Installation :: DVD FC12 Install / Upgrade Wiped Everything On Disk Old FC11

Nov 24, 2009

Was using preupgrade from FC11x64 to 12x64. Preupgrade caused alot of problems like /boot not enough diskspace. After some searching found the steps and preupgrade proceed happily but after reboot got kernel panic grrr.

Took 3 days to find another machine to download and burn the FC12x64 disk. So I booted via the FC12x64 disk and selected the 1st option to install/upgrade. I thought it is upgrade and so choose replace my existing linux system however it wiped out everything on the disk. I have some important data in my home directory. I think it is in LVM, not a partition like /dev/sda1. How can I recover them? Was using stock settings.

OpenSUSE :: Restore Evolution Data From A Previous Version?

Aug 25, 2010

This is to request assistance or information as to why the evolution application will not accept the evolution-backup-tar.gz file from a previous version.

Situation: I upgraded by way of a fresh install from openSuSE 11.2 to 11.3 (GNOME desktop).
Before upgrading, I produced the above mentioned backup file so that I could import all the mail, addresses etc. into the new application.

Result: it does not work. The process starts up seemingly normal but then simply sits there forever with the message "evolution shuts down" - but it does'nt. I have to kill it to stop it.

I am looking forward to a resolution since it would be a real pity if I lost the mail history.

I went to Junk, selected all, then did Apply Filters and it did move the messages matching filters to their appropriatelocations. ny ideas on why Junk has become the default location for message delivery and the filters aren't being processed on delivery

General :: How To Restore To Factory Settings

Dec 4, 2010

I just received this Acer Aspire One Aoa110 from my sister.
Originally Windows Xp, my cousin changed it to Linux.
Right now I am so frustrated with this, as I have no knowledge of Linux whatsoever.
I tried looking for the Acer recovery program, but I can't find it.
I do have to say that Linux is really fast, but I like personalizing my walllpaper where I can do it with Windows Xp..

So my question is, how can I restore this computer to how it was before my cousin tweaked it?

Here is what the desktop looks like right now:

Ubuntu :: Restore Minimized Applications With Launchers?

Jul 17, 2010

i'd like to be able to restore minimized applications by clicking on their launchers like you can do when you have awn or dockey installed. but i'd rather not install awn or dockey since this is the only feature i want from them that the gnome panel doesn't already provide.

i found this thread:

[URL]

which is from 2007. apparently a small application, "launcher-restore", was written to give program launchers the functionality i'm talking about--but that program is gone now--the attached deb file doesn't work at all.

so is there some other program that will do this now, a newer version of launcher-restore, or some even simpler way of setting things up the way i want them?

I want the filter to place the message in a folder if just one keyword fits. How could I fill the field <subject> <contains> and separate my different keywords, saying that it's not an "and" but an "or".. I tried like that:
<subject> <contains> : x | y | w | z
<subject> <contains> : x ; y ; w ; z
<subject> <contains> : x , y , w , z

Ubuntu :: Evolution: Gmail IMAP Settings?

May 1, 2010

I've seen a bunch of other posts on this topic but they haven't solved my problem. I just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04. Love it so far. Except, I can't figure out how to setup my gmail account in Evolution so that I can see the emails on the server or download them locally. I had it working before both in 8.04 LTS and a flash drive install of UNR 9.10. I really can't figure out why it is so difficult this time.Gmail settings are/were already on IMAP - checked while logged in through browser. In Evolution, I've tried changing the account name, user name (for receiving mail), etc. and different combos of same settings. The receiving mail settings I'm using for IMAP authentication are password and save password. Security is set to SSL.Evolution tries to access the server but never asks for a password. Likely, because something is wrong with my settings. I just don't know what.
