Something like KInternet (which is SuSE only as far as I know) where you can see a graph showing how much kbps is sent and received per second.

Feb 11, 2010I'm having a rather hard time getting my 3 monitors setup as one display. I can get all three to work without too much heartburn using 3 separate X instances. The monitors are on 2 different video cards, one dual heads. The other on it's own card.
I've tried countless ways to get this to work, and I'm just not feeling the love. There are 2 17 inch monitors on the 1 video card and then the second video card has a 24 inch monitor on it. I can get the two monitors on one head to work with twinview, but the third one is left out.
The physical configuration looks like this..
17inch on the left of the 24 inch monitor, and another 17 inch monitor on the right, with the 24 inch monitor being in the center.
I'm going to include my current xorg.conf and lspci.

Jul 6, 2010I have a linux router box with ubuntu which routes internet for several people. There is no extra traffic shaping, so everybody can get the whole bandwidth when its free. What I would like to have is a real time traffic counter per ip, just like a program called "iptraf" but on a per-ip basis. Iptraf can only count on a per-connection basis and thus cannot display a bandwidth that a certain ip has taken (because a single ip can start several onnections). So a console program with text interface like iptraf would be perfect - does anybody know about such a program? After some googling I came to the conclusion that such a program does not exist (which must be wrong - i think that per-ip real time traffic flow information is the first thing every router owner would like to know).

May 3, 2011Let's say I am pinging a host, and want to output to a file each reply and its timestamp of when this started.
I know that it can be done with a loop and a shell script. Something like this

echo "$(date)" >> results.txt ###includes the time and outputs results to txt###
ping -c 4 HOST >> results.txt ###a total of 4 pings at a rate of 1 per second###
REPEAT UNTIL USER PRESSES CTRL-C
Now, my first issue is that I need to be able to see results real-time as well.
Is there a way one can print to BOTH a screen and output? If one uses the ">>" command, it is essentially sending everything to the file. Running another ping command in parallel is not an option.

CentOS 5 Server :: Time On Xen VM's Drifting Ahead Of Real Time?
Aug 4, 2009I am hosting two Virtual Servers both running Centos 5.3 on a host machine also running the same OS. The VM software in use is Xen, as supplied with the OS.The host machine's time and date is fine, however both Virtual Servers are running ahead of real time consitantly.Running /etc/init.d/ntpd restart will resolve the issue however one of these is running MailScanner and when the time suddenly goes backwards, sometimes by as much as an hour, it stops working properly.

I am writing a shell script, which determines the OS installation date among other stuff, and i am assuming the root user's account creation date should be a pretty accurate pointer. Are there reasons why i should not be assuming so?I would be open to other suggestion for getting this date/time, but it would nevertheless be interesting to convert the unix time to "real" time without doing complex manual(or otherwise) computation..

Sep 4, 2009I'm running into this issue after installing Fedora Core 11 off DVD. Anaconda install the first part of the installation, then after reboot it goes into run level 3 (I think, where you have to login as root) I noticed that it said xserver failed to load before it actually boots Anaconda.
Maybe I should pull a graphic's card? I have logged in as root after the base install and did a lspci, and you can see the two Nvidia Quadro FX1700's and you can tell it is an intel board with the Intel Corp 6311ESB/6321ESB PCI Express ports. Also you can navigate through the linux directories via ls \. I tried YUM to find/install the graphics drivers but it says something about metadata not being configured. I checked the IP address with ifconfig and had to manually assign an ip.

Apr 3, 2010First of all, this tutorial will use NDISWRAPPER, not b43, not wl (Broadcom STA). So, hooray for new method (actually, the only method ). Now, I don't want anyone to get scared because of bad experiences with Ndiswrapper or whatever, it's actually quite easy. I did not come up with any of this info. I'm just putting this guide together from Kacper Szczesniak's info (who came up with this method), WifiDocsDriverbcm43xxFeisty_No-Fluff from the Ubuntu Wiki, and my experience. The Broadcom STA (wl) driver has references to monitor mode in it's code, but does not have that functionality in reality. The Broadcom Windows driver on the other hand does have this capability. So, for monitor mode to work, you will need a patched version of ndiswrapper.
1) Install the Linux kernel headers:

EDIT:in manual it is writen: The realtime section is used to store the data of realtime files.These files had an attribute bit set through xfsctl(3) after file creation, before any data was written to the file.
General :: Real Time Processes ?

1. I start two bash windows
2. In one of them I start a script test1:

This script puts a natural number 5 times a second.
3. Then in the second bash window I type (as root):

The script test2 looks as follows:

During the following 15 seconds test2 is the process with the highest real-time priority. As far as I know the script doesn't perform any system calls so it shouldn't be suspended even for a minimal timeslice. My question is: why the process test1 manages to put a few numbers on the screen before test2 stops. I thought that test2 would exclusivly own the processor for 15 seconds.
