I have a TV card
Pixelview PV-BT878P+(FM.RC)
PHILIPS FM1216/PH hm
First I've done many things to make the audio works and still nothing until I give up and after rebooting my machine I found out that it works but what exactly made it work I've no idea.Unfortunately I had to change my system like formating everything and now i cannot make it work again, still good picture with no audio, I've tried every thing again you cold Imagen but still not working......
P.S.The is working with windows XP perfectly and i mad it work with ubuntu 9.10 once but i cannot do this again.

i m trying to get online using prolink phs 100 modem i have been reading forums and tried to configure my system but i cant install USB_MODESWITCH coz its a bz2 file.... i tried downloading .rpm file and tried to convert using alien..i was prompted i didnt had alien..
i downloaded alein .deb file and tried to install i was propmted dependency not satisfied... debhelper(>=3) i downloaded debhelper . deb file and tried installing i was again prompted dependency not satisfied... dpkg-dev(>=1.14.19) i need to get connect ubuntu...

I've read so many posts discussing 'bout how to install prolink modem. I've followed all the posts instructions, but still none of them could me to detect this modem. I've done all the steps explained in this link

I'm totally unable to play or mount audio CDs and unable to use video DVD's on my box right now. When I insert an audio CD I get a dialog box saying:
Unable to mount disc: Location is not mountable
and if I check messages in the Log File Viewer I see the following text repeated (save for the last line) a couple of dozen times.

I cannot install Kubuntu (or Unbuntu) 10.4 on my husband's computer. I have spent 5 hours on this and cannot get anywhere. I am deeply frustrated. The iso I burned to CD is good (works on 2 other computers). His computer will not boot from USB, no matter what I do to the drive order in BIOS. After loading the blue screen with the Kubuntu logo on it (and the blue-white dots), the screen changes to black and shows the following text:
BusyBox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu11) built-in shell (ash) (initrafs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system.
He really needs to get rid of WinXP. Kubuntu is what I have on my computer (and love it!). Here is some info about his computer:

I switch on the PC and it loads the Grub splash screen. However, it does not automatically boot the top entry after two seconds as it's supposed to and just hangs. I hit enter to boot it and it attempts to but after a few seconds gives me the error "unable to mount file system....a maintenance shell will be started"
This occurred after I was using it and then everything suddenly froze up on me and I had to crash out Now this!

I'm trying to install The Sims 2 (which I'm aware currently does not run properly in wine anyway), using the multi-CD version. The installation goes normally, up until it comes time to switch from disc 1 to disc 2. The installer prompts me to insert disc 2, but it seems that Ubuntu still believes that the installer doesn't want me to open the drive, because, when I try to open it, it doesn't open, and a window pops up with the following message: Unable to eject CD-RW/DVD RW Drive DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.Failed: An operation is already pending

I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."

I couldn't connect my Micromax 300G modem in Debian Linux. From internet (in Windows Vista), I came across the information of USB_ModeSwitch and then I downloaded it. While going to install it, I came across the problem that TCL-interpreter is not available in Debian Linux. Then again I restarted my laptop in Windows Vista and connected my Micromax modem and from internet downloaded TCL8.5.10-src.tar.gz. But while going to install it, I came across the problem that " configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH " . Also as presently, I am unable to connect my modem therefore I am unable to issue the code:" apt-get update ".

Environment: A 32-bit kernel RHEL5.3 system running on a virtual machine. The root(/) filesystem is on an LV.
Issue: Unable to resize the FS after extending the root LV since it is mounted. After extending the LV, online resizing of the FS was not supported and the root filesystem could not be unmounted while it was in use. On rebooting, I got a kernel panic error. In runlevel 1, I couldn't run chroot, couldn't find the /etc/fstab, root FS could not be mounted, fsck did not run (tried block 31 for second copy of superblock using dd count=1 bs=4k skip=31 seek=1 if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/sda2), couldn't find any rpm on installation media to install unix-utils rpm. I am running the latest suse release downloaded directly from their website. I ran the installation after buring the dvd and everything seemed to be working fine. after the installation i ran updates and used it for a little bit. When i shut it down that night and went to restart it I got an error that stated the OS wasnt there. I then went through the installation and everything and it retained the information from the installation before (web history etc.) but for some reason every time I reboot or shut it down the system is not able to read the startup information from the hard drive and will not come on without me re installing it.

Im having a serious issue with booting ubuntu 10.04, the issue being it wont boot up at all, after working so well for so long (i suspect some recent dodgy system updates are responsible) so I decided to just reinstall ubuntu from scratch again but wanted to retrieve some important files from my root device. I have fresh CentOS 5.2 installed to 2 sata hdd 1.5 TB size; on every of that hdd is primary raid1 submirror of /boot made with md during install. All other space is lvm place, on lvm living root and swap partitions. And it's work. Now I want to mirror my root and swap, and add other volumes with different raid requirements (raid0 and raid1).

I have a lenovo x200 laptop running Fedora 14, fully up to date with the Fedora repository. Seemingly out of nowhere, some websites will no longer load. First it happened to www.facebook.com, next (after a day or so) wikipedia.org, now the Fedora forum. Other Internet access seems fine, but when I try to go to these pages I just get "unable to find host" errors. Its totally bizarre. It first happened in an airport so I thought it was just a strange network there, but now it happens at home. I can't get on these sites in firefox or elinks browsers (in a terminal) BUT I can ping both sites no problem. Also, the other computers in this house have no problem visiting these sites.

I'm having a bit of a crisis here. I installed 10.10 a little while ago and had no problems.Just today, I had a problem with nautilus, and then with the problem unresolved, shut down the computer. Now, I can't log in. If I try, the screen just goes black, and then it goes back to the log in screen.

Anybody meet this, I use ubuntu 10.10, and vnc4server. Connect to vnc, when trying to input 'cd' command, you can just input 'c', it 'show desktop' when inputing 'd', behave like shortcut 'win+d'. But use the same vnc viewer connect to Remote Desktop, this didn't happen.

in my ubuntu installation i had allocated about 15 GB for the /home folder. today i was trying to increase the memory in my system and so using the disk utility program of the 9.10 release, i formatted the /home part of the drive and gave it another name and started using it as just another ext3 partition to store my files. when i restarted the system, ubuntu wouldn't start and it takes me to the maintenance shell.
i have no idea how to solve this problem from the maintenance shell. i also have win XP in my system along with 9.10. i can't afford to lose either of them. i've got many expensive applications installed in both OS. so i can't reinstall Ubuntu in my system. is there any way to override mounting the /home part and start ubuntu.

i installed ubuntu wubi on a computer and dual booted it with xp/ubuntu. and some stuff went wrong where i wasn't able to boot into either of the os. it was an older computer so i gave up on it. but, there were some pictures i had on my ubuntu desktop that i wanted, so i got an external case and hooked it up and searched desperately but can't seem to locate the pictures.

I have burned 9.10 on to one CD and two DVDs; none of them work. I've used ISOBuster (as suggested by someone on these forums), checked the md5 (which is admittedly an alien concept to me but, apparently, everything checks out just fine) and even tried installing on three different systems; my day to day PC, my work laptop and a home laptop - no joy on any Oh, and I've downloaded the ISO twice, just to be sure.
I know all about the boot menu etc on system startup because I have to use it on a regular basis in work (I'm in IT support for my sins ). When I select 'boot from CD', the disc begins to spin up but then does absolutely nothing and Windows loads as normal.
I've even tried the 'help me install' option from the disc but it generates the error 'Could not retrieve the required installation files', so obviously there must be something wrong with the ISO.
At present I've had to roll with the 'Install within Windows' option, which isn't ideal as my mouse dies after about 20 seconds of loading

i have a problem with my ubuntu ( i am a newb with this OS, i just want to get rid of windows becauses it starts to stress me a lot! windows fails , linux is the future )So the problem is that my ubuntu doesn't boot, i've tried :
-reinstalling
-changed the partitions
-repair a broken OS

I created a bootable USB using an iso file downloaded from ubuntu.com which reads:
ubuntu-9.10-desktop-amd64.iso
My processor is Intel core 2 duo t5750.
Unfortunately when I installed Ubuntu using the bootable USB, I think what I have installed right now is a 32-bit version of Ubuntu. How do I know? Well, I tried the "uname -a" command and it doesn't read "x86_64" anywhere! In fact it doesn't read 64 anywhere! Somewhere, after the command is executed, it reads "i686".

i've never been able to use empathy.for some reason, i just can't add accounts.i've messed with it a lot in karmic, but gave up. running lucid now and added a profile for my wife. interestingly, she has no problems using empathy so i think there must be something going on with my settings.i've searched and searched and removed everything i could find that was empathy-related, but no luck.
