Ubuntu :: Can't Select Multiple Files For Uploading
Feb 13, 2010I pushed the browse button and selected the first picture, but I was unable to select all of the pictures.
This happened again on an email attempt to do the same thing.
In the gnome environment, I am able to select the first then hold down shift, and select the last pic and all the ones in between will be selected. I expected this behavior when selecting for upload, but it didn't happen. I had to select each one, one at a time and upload each one.
I tried making a folder to upload the whole folder and that would not select at all.

Aug 7, 2010I was trying to sign my Ubuntu Conduct Agreement with the key I created for luanchpad. I have one other key that is used for my private folder. While using pgp --clearsign to sign my agreement it kept using the first key I created for my private folder. My work around was to create an email and then copy/paste using the correct key. how can I select between multiple keys from the terminal with pgp --clearsign?

Jan 25, 2011I use Debian Squeeze and I have the following desktop environment installed: fluxbox, lxde, openbox and icewm. I make login in text mode and I start X using startx command manually in terminal. When I do that, fluxbox is loaded, because my ~/.xinitrc is configured this way:

And "%session" is the variable value (fluxbox/lxde/openbox/icewm) chosen during the graphical login. This script works with Slim, but I want to login in a non-graphical mode. Could I use this script somehow to do a non-graphical login using startx? Is there some way that I could run startx with some parameter that it would pass the "%session" value to .xinitrc?
General :: Cannot Select Multiple Files Using Ctrl + Left Click?
Jan 2, 2010In Ubuntu 9.10 I cannot select multiple files using Ctrl+left mouse click. It can't be done in OpenOffice.org Writer as well. Can't select multiple words using that key combination.But it works fine with the desktop icons.

Order of these lines are random... So I cannot delete line #19, for example... And you can see that top four lines I want to delete are pairs. So there might be some clever way to detect the lines, if a line has both "1.9" and "1.11", then delete the line... I am new to perl language. The following is the code I have now... I think I just need to write some code inside the while loop checking if I want to delete the line $dotline before I write to a NEW file.

Fedora :: Cannot Select Multiple Files In "File Upload" Dialog
May 1, 2010When I click on the "Browse" button on a web application, I get "File Upload" a dialog. However, I cannot select more than one files. I know it's not a big deal to most people, but I am writing a web page that allows users to upload multiple files at once. So, this is like a show stopper for me.

Dec 16, 2010I installed proftpd on my Ubuntu 10.10 install. I also run multiple websites that I want to allow ftp access to for 2 different users. The websites are located in /home/www/. This is where the guide I was following told me to put them. I also don't have a user named www.How can I give write permission to upload, delete, and edit all the files in /home/www/ for multiple users? They can connect to the ftp server and see the file, just not change them.

The problem is it does not delete files that has been removed from my local system?
I run the command as root on the local system.
(I realize I should properly not ssh into the server as the server's root but I'm having trouble with the permissions and I want to make sure everything else works before messing around with it)

I have created a folder "/home/jim/myFiles" where he can save his document files. But Jim has accidentally deleted his myFiles folder on 2 occasions. He had intended to delete a file in that folder. Is there a way to lock the folder so that the user and create/read/write documents in that folder but not delete the folder itself?

Sometimes within a project, I have e-mail/task management/personal e-mail/twitter, and a lot of different opened applications/terminals in my Linux workstation.Sometimes it would be interesting to have different workspaces to projects instead of this configuration I have nowadays that are classes of work (bad name, I know, but I think you got the idea).I'm starting to think about using two monitors: one with Corporate Management, Work and Personal. The second monitor is only the development state: each workspace here is about a project being worked on instead of groups of works like before. A workspace may be implementing different classes for example.
My question is: I just want to change to a second monitor using the mouse. I want to still be able to change workspaces in the same monitor using keyboard shortcuts. The keyboard shortcuts wouldn't change monitors, just worskpaces on the same monitor. All the tutorials I read (like this one) only tells how to use multiple monitors but doesn't answer my question about keyboard shortcuts.Does Linux (Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx or Debian 5.0.5 Lenny) support this envisioned setup (Different workspaces in a way that keyboard workspace switching only works in the current monitor) ? If so, how?I haven't tested this setup, that's why I'm asking. In this question the user says it works exactly how I want it to behave, can someone else confirm it?

* Internal accounting system to download and process emails
* Public web server to visit
I could put each system on its own separate box -- for example, it's generally good practice to separate anything that external users have access to (such as a webserver) from internal processes such as accounting. Now, rather than dishing out the money for two separate servers, could I get away with just installing new instances of VMWare on the same box for each system?
To give you an idea, these are not large scale computationally sensitive systems. The accounting one is simply downloading and tallying emails, and the latter is just a webserver with maybe 5 hits per day on a good day. I could definitely pick up a new box for say $50, but I wanted to know the general practice of using VMWare on the same box versus two separate boxes.
