and it works. If i tap on the microphone or if I blow on it, I hear noises but after I record something with gnome-sound-recorder I don't hear any sound! The same with Skype, for example.
On Xp (other hd partition) it works.

If I open the "sound preferences tool" the device for sound input is "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" and even if I tune the volume of the microphone I don't see any movement in the input level bar. I've also checked alsamixer and the digital volum in the capture interface is set at the maximum.
I have an Acer Aspire One D255E netbook dual-booting Win7 and Kubuntu Natty, and basically the inbuilt microphone works in Windows but not in Kubuntu. I've tried running alsamixer, it's not muted. I installed pavucontrol and under input devices there are 2 options: Analogue Input and Analogue Microphone. Both of them show the volume level hovering round about nothing. But slightly above, so I dunno, noise I guess.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently got my USB microphone working with Audacity under: Debian 3.16.7-ckt20-1+deb8u1 (2015-12-14) i686 GNU/Linux.What I'd like to do is use that same microphone at the following Google/Chrome link in order to convert speech to text (mostly for the purposes of automating my note-taking process.): url...But the the microphone is never recognized, so nothing happens.(And, BTW, the same microphone works fine on that same link/site when I'm using my Windoze box instead of the Linux machine.)

How do I get the microphone to be recognized by my Google-Chrome browser?
since 9.10.My microphone works, BUT only after I open the 'Sound Preferences' panel, and change the setting under the 'Connector' tab to another selection (any will do), then set it back to 'Microphone 1'.Since this works, I wondered if there is a way to make this happen automatically at every login?
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor some time, my microphone input doesn't reach the recording application, but instead goes directly to the loudspeaker. If I make a sound in the microphone, it will go to the loudspeakers, and Audacity or Skype will not "hear" anything (and of course, with this set-up, there's a constant noise in the loudspeaker, coming from the microphone).This problem goes away if I install PulseAudio. So obviously, there's nothing broken with either of ALSA or hardware, only some misconfiguration somewhere, and PulseAudio can make a sense of the mess. Playing with all sorts of configurations in Alsamixer didn't help.
Unfortunately, I don't want PulseAudio, because it causes output problems which are a bit too subtle for me to describe coherently here. So I'd rather fix ALSA than Pulse.Please direct me into how to investigate this. The OS is Debian Unstable, the audio card is an integrated Intel ALC1200.
I need a simple program that I can talk into a microphone and the sound will come out the speakers. I want to use my Computer that's hooked up to the store speakers as a PA System.
I am having a difficult time finding a program that will let me do this without having to record and playback. Any help would be wonderful.
I was running 9.04 and could, through some magical sequence of toggling options that I was unable to figure out, occasionally get recording from the mic to work in audacity. Ardour worked more reliably, but is kind of over-featured. Audacity is simpler and I know how to get things done. For a while, I was doing basic recording in Ardour, saving it to wav then editing in audacity.
Well, I noticed a howto on getting audacity working in 9.10... so I upgraded ("what could possibly go wrong?"). I still can't record audio in audacity and ardour is now ALSO unable to record audio. They start recording samples but nothing comes in but silence. I've got audacity set to ALSA/default/default and when I click monitor, the stream appears in the pavucontrol app. I've moved it to the input device and that doesn't seem to affect the results at all. Everything looks like it should be working fine except there's some invisible mute button, or something. Under alsamixer's Capture section, Mic has a red "CAPTUR" with no bar to adjust.
When I started using Slackware I've been using USB headset. Everything ran perfectly fine. They got recognized, I could use all of it's functions and so on. Unfortunately volume control on them stopped working so I had to service them, and like in every third world country, yay I need to wait minimum three weeks just so they can press a button and say "Yup, they don't work".
I bought normal headset to use them while other one is getting fixed, and didn't expect any problems with them considering they are "old" technology, normal audio input and output.
Now problem is following, sound works fine but microphone doesn't. Once I managed to "fix" it by switching audio input from mic to something else and then back to mic, now even that doesn't work. Another... "problem" is if I leave my USB webcam plugged in while booting computer, there is no sound at all, ether on line ones or USB ones but I can easily solve that problem by unplugging webcam, rebooting and plugging it back in later.
Now everything ran fine until my computer shutdown while I was sleeping. Don't know why, but it started happening recently, don't see anything smart in logs so I assume its... something, read it could be cache, HDD, temperature and so on but since logs don't write down anything smart... will deal with it some other time.
When I talk I can actually hear myself on the headset, which probably means that they work. If I put mic boost all the way up, I can hear myself perfectly clear, but somehow... seems that that information just doesn't get to Slackware, well it gets somewhat considering that it reacts to me adjusting mic boost on KMix, but everything else... no.
Arecord doesn't record anything, TS register as microphone isn't plugged in at all, skype doesn't get any input ether.

I just installed ubuntu lucid x64 on an HP dv7-3065dx and even though the installation went pretty smoothly, every time I open cheese or anything else that uses the webcam, the microphone all of a sudden cuts off. It doesn't receive input. However if I use the microphone without camera then the microphone works.... Is the webcam somehow crashing the microphone?? Is there something wrong with pulseaudio? The webcam works great and is recognized as "HP Webcam".

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been looking and trying various programs to replace my beloved Wallpaper-Tray on my new Ubuntu 10.04 setup. The problem is, nothing seems to be able to work with my dual monitors like wallpaper-tray did.
Drapes, Wally, Nitrogen, and Wallpapoz are all pretty worthless when it comes to dual monitors. I am looking for something that will stretch my dual-screen wallpaper across both screens like wallpaper-tray did. Drapes comes close by centering a wallpaper in the middle of both screens - but if it can't stretch it across both screens then that's a deal-breaker for me. Not all my dual screen wallpapers are 3840x1200. Also, drapes was giving me errors every time at startup....very annoying.
Or am I just missing something with the programs I've been trying? It's surprising that those programs wouldn't have more options available for dual monitor setups.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't get a program (wbar) to run directly from my user account, it fails saying "Image not found -> maybe using a relative path?". But if I run su -c "wbar", it shows up and manages to load the image. I think it has something to do with ImLib2 or whatever loads the image. I checked permissions on libImlib2.so.1 and it's world-readable and executable. Can libImlib2.a be causing this problem, set to 644? What else should I be checking?

If I come in and run in manually everything works fine and the file is populated in the file. So the only real difference is that i'm running it manually through cron, rather than letting cron run it at a set time.Below is a sumary of my script.

I built a 11.04 server system in vmware workstation a few days ago, set it up for something and now I have a strange problem. It boots without problem. I can login via ssh, the services run and everything is OK from the outside. But on the console there's just a fast blinking cursor on the screen, no login or anything to that affect. Just blank and a blinking cursor.

Iptables on client has udp and tcp ports 111, 2049 and the NFS server ports opened. Info retrieved using: rpcinfo -p NetApp

Stopping iptables also works (I can manually mount the share without using proto=tcp).
Is the mounting process somehow trying to negotiate first using udp which the Netapp doesn't respond and hence it fails by timing out?
Can I configure iptables such that I don't have to use the proto=tcp option? Or is there another configuration file I can tweak so that I don't have to use the proto=tcp option?
I installed an RPG platform (Fantasy Grounds) on my system via Win7. Once installed, and known to be working, I logged off Win and back to Ubuntu and ran the program via Wine. Once it starts, I hear my PC rev up, see the system monitor crank up the CPU and see that "Fantasy Grounds" is running and using about 40% of my CPU usage... but I don't see it. There is no GUI, no nothing. I can end process and the CPU drops down to normal. Anyone have any idea as to why a program would be running, but I have no visible evidence that it is?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an white iBook (G3 900mz model) and it doesn't autodetect the sound card. Running lspci | grep audio doesn't produce anything but running alsaconf does detect the PowerMac sound card which works if you follow all the prompts. Unfortunatly this doesn't make anything permanent and I was looking for advice as to how to set this up so that the sound configuration is actually there across boots.
One of the screens of alsaconf after selecting PowerMac and watching it say configuring snd-powermac it asks; Would you like to modify /etc/modprobe.d/sound? (and /etc/modprobe.conf)
Which I say yes to and then it gives me the happy message about having fun with your working sound card. I then log out and back in and the sound works great.
I've tried using alsactl store but that doesn't seem to work because at every boot there is a message that scrolls past saying "alsactl restore" failed with a state of 1573: No Sound Cards found.

This code has been tested and works fine. The problem is that I need cron to run this code every 5 minutes but i can't tell if it is running: Here is my cron code:

I activated the log (I think) but all i get is /var/log/cron.log and that only logs when I activate/deactivate or edit the cron file. is there anything else i need to set for this to work? I am running Ubuntu 9.10.
