Ubuntu :: Kernel Version Of A Particular Ubuntu Distribution?

How do I know the kernel version of a particular Ubuntu distribution (for example Ubuntu 10.10) without having to install one? I couldn't find the information on the Ubuntu Homepage website. There must be somewhere telling you what the kernel version is.
And one more question. Does one Ubuntu distribution has only one kernel available all the time? Where can I find all the kernels for a particular distribution (for example Ubuntu 9.10) distributed by Ubuntu Project? I can find all the available kernels for a RedHat Enterprise distribution on [URL].. but not for Ubuntu and Debian.

i'm using this guide videos - howto: debian linux kernel compilation, part 1 and the author says i need kernel 2.6.26 this version of kernel doesnt longer exist in kernel.org website and the only 2.6.26 i found is a patch here. should i use the patch? or download another version of kernel?

I get the following error message trying to install dazuko on xubuntu 10.04: "headers for target kernel version could not be found" But when I run sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r), I get the message that I already installed the headers. My current kernel is 2.6.34-020634-generic
How can I install dazuko withouth having this problem??

At the moment I am using kernel 2.6.31-14-generic. I'm not one of those people who needs to have the latest and greatest kernel to be happy, I just rely on the update manager. I swore that I saw an update for a new kernel, but my kernel version hasn't changed. I'm just curious if there was a new kernel that was released or if that was just an update to the kernel listed above.

Sometimes a kernel image seems to have the same version as the backported kernel image, for example:
linux-image-2.6.32-bpo.5-amd64
linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64
What are the differences between the two?

The RHEL 4 update 7 installation CD installs the kernel with version 2.6.9-78.EL and therefore must contain corresponding vmlinuz and initrd.img. However I would like to have an all modules initrd that is used during installation but for a different version (2.6.9-78.0.13.EL). Is there a way in which I could obtain/make such an initrd?

On the download page of R (The Comprehensive R Archive Network) there are options to download the code for Debian, Redhat, Suse, and Ubuntu. Which one should I download in my case (using Slackware)? I would like to install the devel package for this kernel version, but I can't find it, because in the fedora repo there is only the original kernel (2.6.29.4....) and in the updates repo there is only the newest kernel package (2.6.30....)
Where can I find the packages which are between the fedora and update repos' versions?

Twice now I have received update notices informing me of header upgrades which I installed, both required a restart of the system. Usually when this happens there is an additional item in the grub menu. The last two times this has happened I didn't get an additional menu item. What is the latest stable version? I am currently running:

I did try a "sudo update-grub2" and the menu didn't change.

I did a fresh 64-bit install of 10.04 workstation a few weeks ago, and my grub seems to "double up" the listings of my kernel versions. I have removed the older versions hanging around on my system, but you can see in the list below, that I still get the listings more than once:

I just upgraded my storage server to maverick and it seems the 2.6.35-25 kernel doestn like the hardware im using
since im pretty sure its a hardware related problem and the previous kernel hastn the issue im currently booting this old kernel everytime i need the server by hand (using Shift during boot for the grub menu to appear)
well, it narrows down to the following question:
how can i exclude a specific grub entry - in my case the current kernel 2.6.35-25 - so only previous kernels OR future kernels from the next updates will have a chance to boot?

I just did an update of new files including the new linux kernel (Ubuntu 10.04LTS) and it killed my opening GRUB bootloader screen plus the NEW firefox update is working dog slow. How to I get the GRUB screen back so I can go back to an earlier kernel version??

The most recent kernel update, to version 2.6.38-11 has been a horror. It hangs on boot up. Sometimes I can get to the log in screen, then it hangs there as well. However, after 3-5 reboots (which is absolutely annoying to do when I just want to use my computer), it sometimes loads up finally. However, if I go to older Linux version in the Grub menu, then I can select 2.6.38-10 and it runs just fine.
So I am looking for a way to fix this problem, whether it be removing the most recent kernel update, or making 2.6.38-10 boot up by default. I noticed that the kernels are listed in the synaptic package manager, but I am afraid to remove the most recent one via synaptic. Is it as simple as removing the Linux version and headers I don't want, or are there other things I need to do in order to make 2.6.38-10 my default kernel at start-up?

I got last night debian 5 stable, but it has an older version of kernel, I think 2.6.26, which doesn't have my network card drivers. I tried to install myself the kernel, but I a newbie in linux, so something failed and I give up until next time. Is this version: [URL] a safer one for a desktop computer, daily usage? When I installed fedora 11 the other day using the live CD it installed the i586 kernel and not the i686, despite the fact that smolt seems to know that that the hardware is i686 (well, actually it's x86, but I'm not going to argue because I forgot to get that one...). Why would it install the i586 one though? (uname -r 2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i586) But more importantly, are there any specific issues which this version can cause that I should be aware of? I can't really be bothered to change it at the moment if there is no real issue with it but I'm not too sure what difference it makes? Is it slower? It seems to know that I have a quad-core processor and seems to use them fine.
