Ubuntu :: How To View PDF File That Is RARed?

Jan 18, 2011

I have some PDF documents that are in a winrar archive (im in the process of going being fully linux and not windows dependant at all!) but i cant figure out how to view the files in linux!i installed the unrar package which lets me opent he folder.i also installed adobe reader package....

but when i open the folder i go to double click to open the document and it just says "choose a application to open with" but theres no applications in the list! so is this something that is not possible in ubuntu? i tried draggin the RARed folder to desktop so it would unrar - but it only copies the folder - not the actual pdf files inside the folder!! so is this where my excitement for ubuntu ends? will i go back to windows?

Ubuntu :: How To View A .mkv File

Apr 7, 2010

I downloaded a documentary to watch and it is in the .mkv format.this is cool because the format contains different languages and subtitles and everything, but the problem I have is some parts are in a foreign language. the subs are in the file but how do I get to them? I thought, no problem I'll just burn it to a dvd and watch it on my dvd player but can't find any way to encode this file to burn on a dvd. it's supposed to have the menus and languages and subs and everything but I can't find a program that will use it in Linux or Windows. what gives? if this is the case it really is a more than useless format, it's a waste of time to create using this format and a waste of time trying to use on the other end. I found a program that will extract the video but doesn't address getting the right language track or the subtitles.

Ubuntu :: Cannot View Flipbook File?

Apr 7, 2010

Running 9.04 and Firefox 3.0.18 I cannot view a catalogue with Firefox, it just keeps displaying "waiting for users.flipbook..." It must be some shockwave problem with Ubuntu and Firefox, as other people are able to view the catalogue/file , and I assume they are running Windooze. The problem is when I go to the Thrifty Link Catalogue and take the YES option.

Ubuntu :: File Preview To Depend On Folder View?

Dec 29, 2010

I want nautilus to use file preview or not depending on what the view is for that folder. I want file preview to be enabled if I am using icon view, and disabled if I am using list view. This way image folders will be previewed (because I have set such folders to icon view), and other folders wont be (because they default to list view). I also want the desktop to be always previewed. This seems like quite a simple and common-sense desire, but I cant find out anywhere how to do this. At the very least what I'd like is the ability for force preview for a folder if I want to investigate it more closely - even if I have to click a button of select something to do so.

Ubuntu :: Icon View In File Select Dialogue Box

Apr 23, 2011

Is there any way to make the file selector dialogue box in Ubuntu show icons instead of a list or detail view? I have been trying to convince people to use Ubuntu instead of windows, but this seems to be a deal breaker for most of them. When uploading pictures to the web or facebook it is very difficult to navigate pictues in the file browser window with the little bitty thumbnails beside the file name. If there is no way to do this how would I recommend this idea for Ubuntu and to whom would I submit it?

Ubuntu :: 10.10 - Cannot Apply Default File List View

Dec 9, 2010

Some people love icons, but not me. I prefer the file list view. I have stumbled around Ubuntu 10.10 trying to find where to set this preference, but have had no success so far. In windows, you would set the preferred view and then apply to all folders. Ubuntu does not follow this paradigm, and indeed, why should it? I have searched the preferences in Ubuntu, and did a global search f this site for related topics. I know you have to be able to do this, I just don't know how. This is the type of topic I will probably kick myself for when someone shows me how easy it is to do. If you don't know how to do it though, it is still black magic.

Debian :: What Is DPS File And How To View It In Libreoffice

Jul 14, 2015

What is a .dps file, how do I view the same in debian ? I did try a file and this is what I got :-

Code: Select all[$] file UEFI.dps
UEFI.dps: Composite Document File V2 Document, Little Endian, Os: Windows, Version 6.1, Code page: 1200, Author: xxxxx, Total Editing Time: Sat Dec 30 05:00:00 1899, Last Printed: Sat Dec 30 05:00:00 1899, Create Time/Date: Fri Sep 23 20:07:58 2011, Last Saved Time/Date: Sat Dec 30 05:00:00 1899, Number of Pages: 0, Number of Words: 0, Number of Characters: 0, Security: 0, Locale ID: 2052

The .dps file is some Microsoft format. Libreoffice plays it cool. Although do get errors on the console like :-

Code: Select all(soffice:12869): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_style_context_set_path: assertion 'priv->widget == NULL' failed
* (soffice:12869): CRITICAL **: GdkPixbuf* bitmapToPixbuf(SalBitmap*, SalBitmap*): assertion 'pBitmap->mnBitCount == 24' failed

but still somehow functions...

Ubuntu :: Grub File Not Found - Try To View The Contents Says Do Not Have The Permissions

Apr 27, 2010

I already had ubuntu 32 bit version 9.10. but due to some tool compatibility reason I need even the 64 bit version 9.10. I dint want to delete 32 bit version so I wanted to install both on my system. I have windows vista as well.

So I booted with 64 bit version of Ubuntu, went on with the installation, until the point were it asks to choose the partition. 32 bit version had 16GB allocated and 10GB free. so I thought I will make new 8GB partition from the 10GB free space. So I selected the partition and clicked on change, and specified 8GB and ext4 format and mount point as "/". I clicked on continue and in a few seconds it popped up with an ERROR message, which I can't remember exactly, but it meant to say that it could not make the changes as the disk to which the changes were made is in use. So I should not use it until I reboot. So I rebooted and now I have grub error : file not found and grub rescue> prompt.

I tried to boot with the 64 bit CD again with the option of trying ubuntu without making any changes and it does show the 16 GB partition, but when I mount that partition I do not see any folders in the partition except for a folder named "lost+found". I try to view the contents of this and it says I do not have the permissions.

General :: Way To View The Contents Of A Berkeley DB File?

Jul 1, 2011

As the topic title states, I would like to know the preferred way of viewing the contents of a Berkeley DB file. The machine the file is on is running SuSE 9.3, with perl 5.8.6 and php 5.2.0 installed. (I'm not sure if stating that was necessary, but my understanding is that the more information I can provide you, the better. The purpose to this question is this: I have been requested to look into coming up with some form of Geocoding software for one of my company's clients. Specifically, I've been requested to look into trying to obtain Census tract/block information.

I discovered the Perl module Geo::Coder::US, which uses Census input (TIGERLine files) to create a Berkeley DB file, then reads said file to produce its own output. However, the output from Geo::Coder::US only provides latitude and longitude information. At the moment, my only interest is in popping the Berkeley DB file generated with the import script packaged with the Geo::Coder::US module. I'm trying to see what the contents of that DB file are, so I can determine if the information I'm after is even in there in the first place.

Ubuntu :: Move A File To A Nautilus Window With Folders In List View?

Nov 23, 2010

I don't know if this is a known issue, but when I want to copy/move a file to a folder containing lots of sub-folder displayed as list, I can't do a simple drag&drop, because there is no empty space to move this file. It will always go into one of the sub-folders. So obviously I have to go up one folder or to change view from list to Icon or Compact. Is it a known issue? Is there a solution?
